i'm with you last group of logical thinkers.
I don't get why people seem to have such vitriol whenever there's competition.
For me, if a device fits a particular need, and has a feature set I require, than I don't care if it's made by Samsung, apple, blackberry, nokia, or if it uses WP8, iOS, android or BBOS.
there seems to be an irrational attachment individuals get to their possessions and anytime someone doesn't like it, they go into a tizzy.
For one people. Stop throwing the word "innovation" around. it's clear that the vast majority of the people here these days do not have any clue what that word actually means. Stop using it. Just stop.
2nd, is it so damn hard to admit that a product might actually have a very large feature set taht others might have desire to use? If you don't have a need for it. Good, thats fine. Nobody says you HAVE to use them, or even buy that device. But to actually attack it as "crap" or "terrible product" because it doesn't fit into your own desires, is just ... a subjective bias opinion based on ignorance. So, A BAD opinion.
long gone are the discussions of old it seems where people would actually quantify why somethign wasn't of use to them. Now it's slinging mud and obscenities. The worst is the users who nickname these companies but have no basis to back up why they say things like "Crapple" and "Samesung". they just spout of these meaningless titles as if it gives some merrit to their statement. All it does is make you, look like an ignorant fanboy.
Another meaningless argument is this Plastic v Metal thing. When did suddenly "metal" mean better quality? did you know 10 years ago, it was the opposite? 'space age polymers' aka, plastics were the craze and metals were reserved to soda cans.
The simple fact is that both Plastics and Metals have advantages and dissadvantages when used in different circumstances. Neither one has a clear competitive advantage, especially in the smartphone industry. Plastics are more robust, have greater "flex", Return to their original shape when flexed, Spread impact better, and retain colouring and paint better with less prone to scratching. It also provides less interference with antennas and is lower weight. Metal on the other hand is "harder", has less flex, looks and feels nicer (subjective)
but both do have some considerable drawbacks as well. once plastic snaps, it breaks. it feels pretty bad when it's smooth and looks "cheap". Where Metal causes signal interference, ionodized metal can scratch fairly easily, and when torqued, will not easily return to original shape.
However, Neither products define a products build quality or "cheapness". it is entirely possible to have entirely plastic devices that are built to exacting standards of high quality merchandise, just as easily as it is to build Metal based devices to low quality standards.
I think the important thing in the market, that we all fail to recognise is that we have serious competition, where the companies are striving and driving eachother to produce better products regularly, so that we, the consumers can benefit from amazing choice.
