Have you got a link to where it says the plastic used is the cheapest available please? Also a link to the reference of half working apps please?

They probably meant that some of the new features take several tried to work correctly such as the air gestures. The video I saw showed that the user had to try a few times to get a page to go back.

CNET has already checked the screen, it says that it is as pixelated as before, despite higher resolution and unnatural colours and contrast are there. Other than that, I see nothing worth mentioning in that S4, aside that its made of cheapest plastic available.

Please provide a source for each of your claims per forum rules or retract your posts.

Tests show that Galaxy 4 screen is only half as bright as Nexus 4 screen. Samsung has only 258 lux brightness against 400 lux brightness of Nexus 4.

I hate to say it but I would rather be seen with an iPhone than Samsung. An iPhone says to everyone that you have cash and are successful like jewellery, watches or an expensive car, isheep are buying em for a reason.

You do realize that there isn't really anything special or exclusive about owning an iPhone anymore? Just a quick trip down to Wal-Mart will confirm that people in all different socioeconomic classes are now using iPhones.

I always laugh when people think that if they carry an iPhone everyone is going to think they are wealthy and in a higher class then the average person.

Well, Samsung certainly reached its peak. If its flagship phone is as lame as this big plastic, bad quality screen POS, there is nothing to worry for Apple.

Certainly, i think that Apple will take some measure to make sure its not lagging, but in terms of software and OS Apple is so far ahead, that its not even funny..

Only thing I can find from that Samsung announcement is 5 inch screen and few sensors.
I guess you popped a molly.:rolleyes:

Again the real question for people is:

Why bother with S4? Or any Galaxy S series to be honest?

Wait a few months and there will be the new Note?

It's priced the same

It's bigger! You want a phablet? Might as well go for the biggest screen available

It's badder! Stronger CPU, GPU always go for the Note

Better digitizer. It's a Note with the S Pen and it's more accurate.

So really, I still don't understand why bother with S something?

I don't know what's wrong with a "cheap plastic body" if the main thing that gets broken in smartphones is the screen. If the screen is a high-end gorilla glass, well, it's all we need to get a good device's body.

Water-resistance would be a nice feature to have, but these days neither an iPhone nor a SGS4 have a sealed body. Actually a plastic body is good because plastic is flexible and hence it can provide a good protection to the phone internals when it drops.

If the cheap stuff is the right stuff, there's no problem at all.

Firstly, it isn't priced the same as the same generation Note. You can't compare a Note 2 with a SGS4. Probably the SGN3 will be better spec'd than the S4 and will cost more. Samsung likes offering a lot of options with slightly different features (and prices). Look at the Galaxy series SIII Mini, SII Lite, S Duos, Gran Duos and so on. You can buy exactly the device you can pay. This doesn't applies to Apple that if you can't buy an iPhone 4, you have no options (think worldwide where most people buy without a contract).

If you don't care about the S-Pen and wants bigger resolution and processing power, get the S4. If you want the S-Pen, get the Note 2 (and deal with the lower res and processor) or wait and get a Note 3.

I plan on getting the S4 as my next phone, I have used a Nexus 4 and S3 for some months now after selling my iPhone 5 and see no reason to go back to Apple. I find that I don't miss the ecosystem as much as I was led to believe I would, and it will work in conjunction with my MBP and iPad mini flawlessly. (The same as my S3 and Nexus 4 did/does)

I see no reason for you to get an S4. It's already unusual that you have a Nexus 4 and S3. Huge waste of money. You might want to think through your decisions - that could save you money.

These features aren't new, special or really that amazing in the eyes of many folks cause they aren't geeks. and yet Samsung hypes them like they are the end all and be all.

uuhh lol...I know of a company that thrives off of hyping up lame features like the end all be all :cool: (extra row of buttons, copied notification menu, siri, "retina", "multi tasking", etc etc)

He basically said that there's no promise that any new hardware will have the latest software (unlike how at Apple they design the two side by side) and you said that the Nexus will perhaps not get 'any of those updates'. And we don't know if the Nexus or this Galaxy will get the new software that Google is likely to announce at I/O or when. Thanks to the carriers wanting to mess with the system, updates are often months behind and don't always work on the hardware that was out when the vanilla release by Google was done.

These are facts of the game at this point so not really 'mudslinging' by Schiller.
uuhh people who care, have the latest software, people who dont care... uumm... dont care :confused:

Because it's based on math that takes into account your vision quality and how far away you hold the phone. 441PPI means you can have better vision than the 'average' user and/or hold it closer and still not see the pixels.
and you will be here praising the iPhone's next 1080 screen... likely with worse battery life than the current joke of battery life that is the iPhone 5...

Most folks would never use NFC, particularly daily. Either because they are not in an area where stores etc support it or they are too nervous about having their wallet in their phone.

And even that it's still in the "betamax v VHS" stage they really might not since what they could use it for might not be the flavor Apple includes.

I constantly use nfc just for quick picture transfers. Friends take 20, i have 20.... swapped in a few seconds. Yes, select 20 pictures, touch phones, transferred in seconds.... jealous? Friends with iPhone... "Can I do that?" ... nope :D

Trying to sell stuff to bored people is a losing strategy. Thanks Samsung for playing the part. Take their money.
Except you know Samsung is winning right?... But if spouting nonsense is a winning strategy, then hello charlie sheen :)

Did you even bother reading about the Galaxy S4 before trying and failing to bad mouth it with incorrect information in your posts? The Galaxy S4 does indeed have 802.11ac support right out of the box: http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/samsung-galaxy-s4-the-hardcore-geek-s-best-bits
no no no, we ignore facts here unless they support apple :cool: spouting nonsense is much more popular

Faults with the galaxy 4

Samsung bloatware (more crap built in than an impacted colon)
Plastics, build quality is shocking for a flagship model
Pentile, effective resolution is actually no where near as sharp as a true led
there is noting super about amoled it always looks jokey and weird
Quad or octa core? Why, are these android phones so badly optimised that they need 8 cores! Really!
Battery life, with and already massive battery that doesn't last Samsung is asking it to push an unnecessary amount of pixels too, expect battery life in the hours, worse than your net book.
Five inches! What the hell, why it seems like such a poor choice for a phone, I feel sorry for any woman who buys this phone and is expected to actually use it as a phone. There is zero benifit to increase its size, I mean we have the note already for stupid tech boys who only use their phone as a tablet to watch illegally downloaded films and wares.

Samsung may shift phones but they are making little profit on these cheap ass handsets and people are only really willing to part with pennies. These users don't buy anything and are looking for a bargin.

I hate to say it but I would rather be seen with an iPhone than Samsung. An iPhone says to everyone that you have cash and are successful like jewellery, watches or an expensive car, isheep are buying em for a reason. A Samsung still says you are probably a bit tight, think more is better and think you are an individual when you are actually more of a sheep than iPhone users. You also someone who is happy to buy knock offs rather than the real deal.

Sorry but samsungs have a stigma in society much worse than iPhones.

The galaxy 4 is a perfect example of how you can ruin a good phone that could have been great but is just a disaster.

Lol wow... something about the regurgitation of nonsense is shocking... for someone who has obviously never used anything other than an iPhone, never used an amoled screen, never had the benefit of a larger screen, doesnt know that the flagship note2 battery life trumps the ip5, and doesnt know what polycarbonate is you have a lot to say :rolleyes:

You've clearly missed the point. I wasn't talking about screen size but I'm not surprised that's what you've brought up so thoroughly.

I was talking about specs. By "size" I meant specs in general.

Size: The relative extent of something; how big something is.

hhmmmmm

How does an iPhone signify to anyone that you have cash? You realize these days that you can get an iPhone 4 for free with two year contract? I bought my 4S for $99 with two year contract because I was low on money.

These days, owning an iPhone doesn't mean a thing other than you have an iPhone.

Apple post Steve is Apple pre-Steve-come-back ....

It's all downhill from here on out baby (at least in terms of phones, macs are still awesome).

Not really. the new macbook with retina display is a not that great. there are quite a few flaws. i owe one.

----------

The screen is just big! But it's not eye pleasing at all--It's an eye sore! I don't know something is really wrong with the colors it causes eye strain.

well i get eye strains from looking at iphone's small screen.

Has there ever been a Mac that has not had issues/problems/defects? I doubt it. I have two Macbooks sitting here, a white 2010 and a black 2008. Both clearly had cases that cracked. I remember numerous iMacs that have had problems and now look at the lawsuit about the screen ghosting.

Don't even start on iPhones. Cracks in the iPhone 3/3GS cases, iPhone 5 scuffs...iPhone 4 antennagate...

I sold the S3 and kept the money ready for this, the sale of the Nexus 4 would mean that in real terms I would not have a financial burden with the purchase of this phone.

I do think over my financial decisions, I have been a soldier for many years and work very hard for my money, I don't drink and don't smoke, i own my own home and car and provide for my family, I do like technology and enjoy, within reason, the latest. My hobby perhaps? No one really needs a smart phone in this day and age, I just enjoy having that extra freedom and connectivity, but thats me. I find your comment patronising and uncalled for, who do you think you are coming across all high and mighty, telling me that I should think over my decisions? That I have wasted money? That things I do are unusual? In your opinion perhaps, not mine, you don't even know me! You might want to think over your decision to post such a rude, judgemental and uninformed post in future.

True enough, but he could have been descibing me and countless other former fans. Apple is tell a lot of their best customers where to go and by the time it bites them in their sales ass, it will be too late and apple will be a pathetic has-been.

Yup, and it's not just a "lone mac" that will not be bought. It's my next phone, tablet, media streaming device and itunes purchases.

Many say Apple is losing market share because of the small screen size...
Yet in Q412 Apple sold more iPhone 5 than the Galaxy S3.

.

You have to use the right set of number. Apple quarterly sales number include the older Iphones. So the 47.8M iphone sales in 4Q13 consists of sales of Iphone 5, 4s and 4. The breakdown seems to be 50/50 basic on a discussion in the 4Q12 earning conference call in Jan. So if you try to count the newest devices, it should be Iphone 5 vs S3+note 2 sales. And if you look at it this way, the sales number are very close when you take the rolling 4Q to account of the different launch schedule of these 3 devices.

The S4 has the highest res screen? Really guy? What about the HTC One?
The S4 has the highest ram also? Really guy? What about the HTC One?
Your Damsung colors are showing.

I said highest, not "uniquely highest" or "higher than any other phone". It's true there is no cell phone in the US with a higher than 1080p resolution.

When you are trying to call someone out like a jerk, don't make such a foolish post.

Its not the resolution, its the pixel density. The S4 comes in at 441dpi, high but gets beaten by the HTC one with 469 dpi. Its academic for most, but you will always have the "experts" that can see a "clear difference" and see even at this level every single pixel.(not)
Also, the Samsung has a pen tile matrix, not something you put in your flagship.

lol, android fragmentation..

On the unrelated note, I think we'd have to give Samsung due: its revived phablet market (sunk by likes of Dell Streak), its differentiated from Apple by its 5 inch screens (contrast and color issues aside); its differentiated itself from the rest of Android pack by offering various S services.

What should be reaction of Apple? My take is that nothing special is needed. iPhone never was intended to be a peak of hardware technology, so being behind Samsung in some aspects and being behind LC and Sony in some other aspects is inevitable - such is crazy speed of Android market; you'll never be on top for long anyway and even now S4 lacks some hardware features of HTC One and Z; its a total hardware and software package, which matters and newer iOS7 plus iPhone5/6 would be sufficient answers for now.

For now.

The next key questions will be if there gonna be Apple phablet?
How different will be iPhone 6? (assumed that 5S is only a small iteration from iP5);
Bring on iWatch!
Bring on AppleTV 55 inch;
Bring on AppleTV small version with apps and games;
Bring on newer MacPros;
Bring on xMac,
Bring on Apple Car systems;
Bring on Apple Home automation;
Bring on Apple Streaming iTunes,
Bring on Apple retina MBA,
bring on Apple ...

i am impressed though by the fact *both* camera can be used simultaneously, almost like a picture-in-picture. so you can show someone would your looking at.

This alone, makes the Samsung s4 a win, over any device. not just IOS.

The "stage" production, that Samsung put on had me laughing..... What a performance :p I just wish they had closed the curtains sooner. Its a phone, not a broadway.....

No wonder they choose that theatre.

And with the iPhone 5S, Apple will revolutionize the industry with................a grid of icons.
