Atari 800 with 5 1/4 floppy drive, No. 2 pencil
Hey! I used to have one of those!
The Atari, not the pencil...
And a tape drive, that used audio cassette tapes. Man I miss thing.

Last time I checked this forum was still called MACrumors, not gadget rumors or mobile OS rumors. We are Apple fanboys and don't wish to discuss inferior products from other companies that try to just copy Apple.

Guys, I know it's called "MACrumors". Does that mean that iOS is perfect and no one should discuss on things they've seen in non-Apple devices that they would like to see in iOS? I don't think so. Seems perfectly relevant to "mac". I also don't think that because I post in an iPad forum therefor I should implicitly adore iTunes and every other Apple product (as has been implied). I'm one of many, possibly the majority, iPad owners who purchased and enjoy the iPad *despite* it requiring the iTunes handcuff. I have no problem with iTunes as an option for those who want it, I just wish it weren't a requirement for me in order to use the world's best tablet.
I wish there was less "religion" styled commentary around here and more discussion about all aspects of the products, good and bad. Carouser, you consider this garbage, I don't and I believe others don't. Thankfully you can choose to ignore these threads and the problem is solved.
I think you meet resistance because you write as though 'iOS is perfect (or not)' or 'this aspect of OS is good/bad' are objective questions. It's fine for you to say you would not like to have iTunes. I say that the tablet would be a mess if Apple made it capable of dragging and dropping media or accommodating other media players alongside iTunes. I get that people don't like using iTunes. What I don't get is that they think this is something which should and could be changed (it's Apple's prerogative and not an unreasonable one to tie software to hardware) and what sort of discussion is supposed to follow when it's posted over and over again. Having posted our opinions, I then encounter people, sometimes the same posters, talking about 'jihad this' and 'fanboy that' or equating 'reasoned disagreement' with 'blind approval of Apple'. That's the garbage that I can't ignore because it happens in every thread. All that's left is congratulating each other on their opinions, done in the guise of 'See! iOS does have clear faults or deficiencies (AKA my subjective dislikes)! If you don't admit this, you are a fanboy'. I hope this is clear.
Heh, so the statement "iOS is not perfect" is not an objective one? Maybe that's the root my issue with you and others.![]()
Of course it's not objective. 'Perfection' is a normative concept evaluated according to a particular reference, and the reference at play in this case (and every other one) is a function of an individual user's needs and expectations. While needs and expectations can change, for some people iOS satisfies their wants and needs without disruption. Why is it not therefore 'perfect' for them at that moment?
EDIT: unless you want to say 'perfection is when it meets every person's needs and wants no matter how cockamamie they are' but then the statement 'iOS is not perfect' loses any force.
I'll give the 10.1 a look-see, especially at that price point. I know the display should be pretty good, it's the rest of the package that I am curious about, especially the TouchWiz skin over Honeycomb. From what I have seen, it looks ok. I worry about updates, as we know Samsung is slow./QUOTE]
Also interesting will be a battery life given the thinness. IIUC Apple went thru some battery hardware design engineering hoops to keep the battery life at 10 hours on the iPad2.

Fair enough. With a changing frame of reference then it would be hard to make an objective statement about anything. In this example I can say that I have not met a single person who would consider iOS "perfect", so I would still consider this about as objective as any statement can be. You feel differently, and I can live with that.
Actually we can make plenty of objective statements (i.e. facts established through science). 'iOS is not perfect' (or the short slide to 'X is a flaw of iOS') are not those kinds of statement and remain opinion and should be treated as such, not turned into 'well a bunch of people have this opinion so it's fine to treat it as objective and anything which contradicts me doesn't matter because only a fanboy would say such a thing.'
for work, I need the better notifications system. The rest of the lure of Android wore off after a couple of weeks.

so... what do u guys all think about this? im seriously thinking of returning my ipad2 now after seeing this. it has everything that we want to see in a tablet...
- portability
- up to 10 hours of battery life
- adobe flash
- 4G connectivity
- starting price of just $469
- USB slot, microSD, HDMI dock, bluetooth pen, etc
What is wrong with comparing tablet devices here? After all whatever the competition brings means that's something else for Apple to match or surpass.
Yeah, the only problem is that *any* positive discussion about Android is immediately deemed "troll'ish", with Apple lovers declaring jihad against the poor soul who would even think of commenting about how nice it would be to manage music on his tablet without an iTunes computer.
Seriously, it's interested how insulted people around here seem whenever someone happens to mention how an Android tablet might have some specific advantages over an iPad.
All my mobil devices will be Apple. I love the Company and the ability to walk in a store and get friendly help. And we had iphone since day 1 so our iTunes library and apps are extensive and valuable (I do not believe in jailbreak)
