They were not pleasant to use but they were as good as it got at that point in time. You can’t implement technology that doesn’t exist or isn’t ready for prime time use. Everything has its time.

So I didn't notice what sort of surface the drop tests were performed over? Concrete? Gravel? Shag Carpet? Goose Down Pillows?

You don't generally hear that in the business world. I've never heard anyone tell someone they should get a Mac when they're looking at rolling out 200+ laptops to employees.

Only time you seem to hear people advise getting a Mac is for home users. I'd agree with that. They tend to have less support issues (the hard numbers support this). For home users, they're not likely to be using apps that are only offered on Windows. The average user is doing web browsing, email, and maybe word processing. All things that you can do on any machine.

Exactly. I was using a Palm Treo back then and it was very good. Of course it had it's problems, but what phone didn't. I couldn't wait for the IPhone to come out. When it did, it was leaps and bounds better than the Palm, except, a basic function on the Palm, cut and paste, was not available on the IPhone.

Great new technology that also had a step backwards, at least for me. There were other things missing on the first IPhone that most people forget or ignore. It was not perfect. This new screen will either work well or not. None of us know.
