There is SOME truth to this. But when it comes down to it, battery life depends on how you use your phone. If you use it super heavily of course it's constantly going to be needing to be plugged in.
Yeah, the variables involved in battery usage are so complex, it’s almost a wash. Use, apps, proximity to wireless services (Wifi and cell), etc., it seems like all phones are always out of battery
We were at the condo with my two BILs just a few weeks ago, and their non-Apple phones (one was a GSIII) were plugged in out of necessity about the same amount as our two iPhones, unless the usage was dramatically different (I streamed audio on mine a good bit, the battery was consumed a bit quicker ... no surprise).
Last time I flew out of DCA, down at Term C, there’s a bunch of standing tables with charging stations, and there was a pretty wide distribution of phones plugged in, sharing outlets, etc.
I guess we could debate the effectiveness of a swappable battery vs. something like a Pilot 10000mAh portable charger that charges an iPhone ~5 times (a battery only is definitely smaller, my use case is usually when traveling so I have a bag with me, or I’m in a car with a charger handy). Without question the Samsung product has a removable battery as the commercial states, no debate about that.
Regardless of the reality of the situation, battery life is big concern, so if there’s any superiority to the Samsung product at all, it’s not a bad marketing spin.
