Uh, no. Not even close. PC in those ads was the favorite character. John Hodges did such a great job with that portrayal that it made the ads. Was there some elements of poking at weaknesses in Windows? Sure. But it was done in an upbeat, tongue in cheek manner. Were there people who didn't like it? Of course. But the vast majority did.

With this ad, the comparisons are done in a condescending, petulant way that doesn't offer much in the way of humor.

It also misses the mark on its criticisms. Someone else has already comment on the issue of more pixels not equating to a better display. Also, the inability of the guy to send a file while on a FaceTime call is the failure of the guy's knowledge, not of the iPad's ability. I've switched over and sent files while in such calls. It is true that the split screen capability is a shortcoming, but trying to criticize that how they did fell short, IMO.

I hate when people defend those ads like this. It's the same thing and you can't sugarcoat it. The PC is bloated, wimpy, dumb, etc. If anything I think the Mac vs PC ads were WORSE because they humanized the Mac and PC. So now the consumer isn't thinking their computer is bloated wimpy and dumb, now they are humanizing that and thinking that maybe they are also. It's genius on Apple's part and of course I thought the ads were great for them, but to sugarcoat them like that is just disingenuous at best.

Who cares. Sounds like two children arguing. Mine is bigger than yours syndrome. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You buy what best suits your needs and move on. Waste of advertising money as far as I am concerned. You should be highlighting what you product does best.

Agreed. And the Mac guy was never rude about it.

Personally the only Samsung products I buy are TV's, monitors, SSD's, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and fridge. Everything else is crap.

Yeah, just sort of "passive-aggressively condescending".

...not rude at all.

Hey.

Hey.

We are all talking about the new Samsung tablet now, we were not before.

Not even bothering to read the article this time. After their mockery of the iPad & pencil commercial, I knew they were just playing a childish game of "mine's bigger". They don't inspire me. It was fun and playful in the mac vs pc era, but the lure of Apple (for me) is its ease of use, consistency of experience, and quality of products. For anyone who uses Android/Samsung, I'm glad you enjoy your purchase. I'll enjoy mine, thanks.

You can try to split hairs all you want to rationalize your love for Apple, but really, it's the same. And I think the chick at the end is pretty funny.

Absolutely not the same. Apple was simply pointing out very real issues with Windows that most of us experienced on a regular basis. Samsung's MO is to attack and belittle the competition and consumers who use competitive products. That's just bad marketing. Even comparing screen resolution - it's ridiculous to suggest someone would notice the slight difference in resolution between the two devices.

And this idea that people need to multi-task as if you couldn't use a tablet or computer without being able to watch videos and work on spreadsheets at the same time is a total red herring. I'll make a guess that multi-tasking for the vast majority of people is simply listening to music at the same time they're writing or reading emails.

Are there cases where it might be nice to have your photo app up to drag photos into an email, of course, but it's clearly not a make or break situation as sales for iPads seem to suggest.

Negative advertising is a lot like negative political ads. They may work on simpletons but annoy people who actually understand the issues.

I would definitely say that those who actually get annoyed at these ads, ARE the simpletons.

Remember the Mac vs PC ads? Same thing.

.

OMG!!! LET IT GO. So sick of people brining up the past from many years ago. Your point is null and void. Every Apple competitor has made their share of jabs but they refuse to stop. Apple stopped that stuff years ago and you need to let it go.

What?!? Apple pioneered the "S" format of releasing the same product with minor hardware enhancements.

Minor hardware enhancements?!?! A new processor and better camera that are both optimized to run faster and smoother than the previous version is minor? I suppose you are one of the people that think a phone hasn't changed unless it looks vastly different.

Particularly loved the mention of pixels.

Number of pixels != Display quality.

It's like the whole camera megapixel war all over again.

Even funnier, that segment was so far away from reality I nearly spilled my coffee from laughing so hard. Yeah, women sitting around at the spa saying "My Samsung has more Pixels than your Retina Thingy". Come on Samsung, is that all you got??:D

Wow

That's very true. I can't tell you how often I've been in a business meeting sending a message when a FaceTime message comes in and I can't do both at the same time and I think, "Wow, I need to get a new tablet so I can do several things at the same time."

Oh, wait. I can tell you: never.

The S-pen is also a nice advantage--sadly, because of the ridicule Apple faced with the Newton, there will never be an Apple device with a pen.

That's not the case.

1. the newton was ridiculed because of the very bad writing recognition, not because of the stylus.

2. everybody (except for the hardest Apple fanboys, who justify everything Apple does) knows how useful current radio (Wacom) pen are. For e.g. artist or map work, they're orders of magnitude better than anything mouse-based.

3. today's Wacom pens are incomparable to the resistive stylus used by the Newton (or any small-screen devices before 2008; before that, only Windows tabs used Wacom pen, not Newton-sized or even smaller handhelds). They're MUCH-MUCH better.

Plus, Hodgman. I'd look forward to the Apple ads to watch Mr. PC's latest material.

Nah, you can say the same thing about this ad, you are just sugarcoating the mac vs pc ads. Samsung is "simply pointing out very real issues with" iOS "that most of us experienced on a regular basis". I agree on your point about resolution, but also feel it's deserved because Apple does the same exact thing ad nauseum. Multi tasking it's well deserved, although I don't think Samsung has much of a leg to stand on, still they do have a leg. 2 screen multitasking is still better than pseudo multitasking, ie freezing programs in the background. I multi task all the time with more than one screen open on my windows tablet all the time, every day.

This hurts... I love Apple, (should I say want to love?)... but I can't fault Samsung for advertising what makes them better.

I wish I could respond with, "well, the Pro actually sucks and Apple is awesome because..." but that would be a lie.

Samsung is picking up where Apple stopped... I can't fault them for continuing to innovate (and show the innovation in a new product) when all Apple is doing is rereleasing the same one products again.

Maybe Apple should take note.

Exactly and while you're at it try and remember how poor the build quality is on Samsung phones and Tablets. The instability and cluttered UI of Android and the lack of reality this ad was filled with. You need to look at what Samsung is doing wrong rather than noticing how they pointed out Apple's shortcomings.
Come on man, Sammy went against 3 other Tablets in their ad and still came out superior?? LMAO.

Yeah, while people are multitasking on their Samsung Tablet the Apple iPad and Surface users will be running Microsoft Office. But you forgot about that right. Apps and a superior OS make the computer run.

Yeah that Galaxy Note Pro that got trashed in the press for being useless.

http://www.theverge.com/2014/2/20/5429986/samsung-galaxy-note-pro-review

I guess Samsung must try very hard to sell this crap up the point of doing biased ads.

It's far from being useless. It's just

-vastly overpriced

- and, consequently, isn't a true alternative to Windows 8 Pro tabs (even Surfaces!), which offer a LOT more bang for the buck - with the same Wacom and multitasking support.

No wonder almost noone prefers these Note Pro tabs to Win tabs.

Not a terrible commercial, but not exactly accurate. I'd like to see how these "features" are executed first, which I'm sure will be poorly done.
