perhaps read this then **** http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/18/the-engadget-interview-dr-charlie-miller/

clearly your to young to remember the same old arguments we used to have back when apple used their own cpu's! it was the same old stuff of apple makes better cpu's just like apple makes better phones, apple dont get viruses ect ect funny that because apple switched to intel cpu's even though they were inferior then suddenly all the isheep shut up about theit cpu's being the better cpu's and after the isheep were proven wrong about macs being safer than pc's for viruses they all shut up but some of these myths still pop up from time to time. its always gonna be the same way for the isheep and it will never change.

Trust me I am not too young. Perhaps you were referring to those years my apologies. I wasn't an apple user until 2007

So I appreciate the too young comment, but unfortunately that doesnt apply.

However apple didn't design most of their desktop CPUs.
First they used motorolas. Then they used IBM. Then they used Motorola again. Then they used Intel. Actually, did they even design any of their own processors for the desktop/laptop? Even the A series are based on the ARM. So that argument is crap either way.

So theoretical security versus how many incidents have windows had over the years?
I will say though that vista and windows 7 is leaps and bounds over xp and the previous. However, any OS is only as secure as the user running it.

Anyway this is getting off topic.
My main point originally was how sad it is that people have to personally attack people to try to make their point.

I didn't find the commercial funny but then i'm hard to amuse sometimes.

I'll be honest, my parents bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 and i've been playing around with it for a while. The iPhone 4S is my first smartphone and this is what i thought of the SGS2:

1. Super AMOLED screen looks nice, but if you look hard enough you can notice the pixels on the buttons. I cant notice any pixels on my iPhone's retina display.

2. The huge screen looks gorgeous.

3. I don't like the power button being on the side.

4. I played Fruit Ninja on it and the graphics where all blurry. Its like they took Fruit Ninja and just stretched it to fit to the giant screen. The game looked terrible which kind of defeats the purpose of having a big screen.

I wont bore anyone with more details but that's the main things i noticed. The screen is nice and... that's it. Deep down its still an Android phone which suffers from Android's hundred's upon hundreds of problems.

So in reality, this is what the phone is. An Android phone with a giant screen and no more. Which is why i dont understand why people want a 4inch screen on the next iPhone. There will be a transition period until all apps support the new screen size and until then, the next iPhone will be running stretched apps.

I understand the screen envy, i felt it for a while until i came to my senses. But the reason i think we all go with Apple is because of quality over quantity. For everyone else, there are Android and Windows phones.

I think the screen looks great. The button on the side is easy to get used to. If you hold the phone with your right hand then it is right where your thumb is to turn the screen on or off which is convenient.

The iPhone screen is just too small and thats all there is to it. Needs to be at LEAST 4".

You see, they can't show off capabilities because IT USES THE SAME OS AS EVERY OTHER ANDROID PHONE, IT'S JUST THE HARDWARE, that is why Apple is so successful, they don't have to fill their keynotes with specs and other stuff that the basic consumer doesn't really care about, they can show off iCloud, iMessage, Twitter integration, and the other SOFTWARE based upgrades too.

Yes, thats why . Theres nothing new at all about ICS and it doesnt do any of that stuff .

Come on man, iPhone just got notifications after 5 years while Android has had it the whole time.

Good discussions so far on the strengths and weaknesses on both platforms. Isn't it wonderful that life is full of choices. I like iPhone's better integration with the whole Mac ecosystem. Others like Android's hardware variety and customization.

I think it's healthy for the smart phone market to have competition and alternatives. After all, I don't want EVERYONE around me to use the same phone as I do. I already feel that way with so many Apple laptops on university campus. It's getting to be like a uniform.

Samsung is just jealous that they can't make people stand in line for hours on end for their own phones.

That's about it.

The commercial was clever, but...

Any time a company directly targets another I tend to look into the recipient company's products. You're generally only targeted because you're a threat, and you're usually a threat because of great products.

When companies I like target others in this manner I'm disappointed.

Here is a commercial that likes to make fun of people that stand in line for iPhones. While I know Samesung wishes they could sell 4 million phones in a weekend, it is still kind of funny. Take a look:

YouTube: video

You do realize that Samsung would kill for the kind of mindshare that has consumers standing in line for their gear . . .

Interesting how they mock the very situation that every Apple competitor covets but can never quite get.

But hey, if you can't have any of the glory, just make fun of it.

IIRC, they were selling $2 Samsung Galaxy SIIs in Australia in a makeshift shop a few doors down from Apple's store in Sydney, Australia in the days leading up to the iPhone 4S launch.

Perhaps their point is, that they have more than one phone which come out more often and there are choices so you dont have to stand in line. All their smartphones have Android on them.

Samsung has sold 20 million Galaxy S phones and the Galaxy S2 has sold 10 million already. Not bad considering there are other Android phones to choose from and there are new ones out throughout the year as opposed to an iPhone.

Android last i saw had a bigger marketshare and there are over 500,000 androids activated everyday so they arent hurting.

No. Some have Mango.

I've got over 10'000 flaws = virii, trojan's (not the one's you use as contraception), and male ware (not the clothes men wear).

And I've got another 10'000 fixes that continuously fail and need updating every month = virii definitions!

Oh here is more .... over 5GB lost HDD space on the definitions, plus another 500MB HDD space for the application to run those definitions.

Blue Screens - yes in Win7 still occurs.
network connectivity issues over network zone types.
Windows firewall causing network drive or dns namespace issues with share point intranet addresses over VPN.
No TRUE protected or encrypted user profile and the content within from other local or network administrators.

need I go on?!

- Haven't seen a BSoD for the last 4 years since switching to XP and then 7.

- Haven't re-formatted, cleaned-up, defragmented, or scanned my hard-drive for the last 2 years, when i put win 7 on my laptop. Runs like day one! And i use it extensively for movies, projects, coding, simulations, web and yadda yadda.

- Haven't used an AV other than Microsoft Security Essentials and it works great. Definitions aren't an issue. No malware so far either.

- Haven't updated windows since 7 months and still no issues.

I was going to buy a mac pro 2 years ago when i stumbled across windows 7. After i used it for a while on my old laptop, i decided i no longer needed a mac anymore.

I love how mac users point out PC flaws and try to make us feel like we are in grave danger from our computers. My $600 laptop bought in 2007 runs like clockwork and does all on windows 7, freeing up money that would other wise be gobbled by a mac.

However, I am not going to go out and start bad mouthing macs. For what they do, they are beautiful and well-built machines with a nice OS. But right now i am content with my choice.

I have had a similar experience with win7. Actually, I can't remember the last issue I had.

I have a cheapo dell laptop with win7 and the thing runs great. Think it cost $375 shipped.

People here can bang on Windows all they want, but my experience with windows 7 and essentials has been enjoyable.

Both platforms have their merits. Yes Windows 7 is light years ahead of what Windows used to be.

Droid phones are for the most part nice phones as well, however some are weak compared to others. I don't like how some of the even recent ones won't run the latest OS. How most vendors add their own "touches" to the phone to make them theirs. How some stop supporting their devices, especially in the tablet market. With iOS I don't have to be worried about which phone or Tablet I should get, which ones run the latest OS, which AppStore do I get my apps from.

I like our MACs, iPhones, iPads, and our :apple:TV because they are like one living breathing organism. How everything works with each other is wonderful. My wife, my kids can easily work everything. We gave our kids (5 and 8 yr old) our old iPhones to use as iPods and it is amazing how quick they were able to use them.

Both of them use Windows 7 desktops and they are for the most part work smoothly. Though sometimes I need to force a reboot on my daughters, but that is probably related to the kid game websites she uses. They don't have Admin rights, so I don't worry about them installing something inadvertently. However, I plan on getting them upgraded to OSX sometime. Either Minis or maybe I can convince the wife to replace our 2 iMacs with new 27" ones and give them ours :D

I work on Sun Heavy Iron servers as well as help support a large Windows enterprise, X86 Virtualization of Linux and Windows, Solaris Containers/Zones/LDOMs, Trusted Extensions; so I am familiar with both sides of the house. My true passion is in the land of UNIX, which is one of the main reasons I switched a few years back to OSX and I love the simplicity of installing apps, having the ability to do a good bit of my work development on my desktop.

Anyway, everyone is allowed their opinion. I am glad folks like their Droid and Windows environments. That is the beauty of technology there is something for everyone. However, it gets old constantly hearing the constant "iSheep" and douchebags resorting to name calling because people don't share their point of view. I like what I like, I really don't care what asshats think.

Kudos for a truly excellent post!

I'm with you on all points, and you've said it best.

Cheers... :)

BS

Every "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" video had a theme. Nice selective memory. Try again.

http://youtu.be/C5z0Ia5jDt4

case in point

Nice Video...on a side note...at 1:22 in the video, the PC has "some cool apps like calculator"?! seems Apple used that term VERY generic until recent trademark claims *g*

But back to the Toppic:The commercial is actualy VERY good because it puts a spotlight on those apple customers that about 99% of apple clients do absolutely not want to be associated with. (You know, those "Look-I-have-Apple-Stuff-so-I-must-be-creative-and-cool" guys)

When I walked by a local apple retailer on iPad 2 launch day I had a very strong feeling to explain that I use my iPhone because it currently suits my needs best and not because I am like those guys.

....and if you belong to the 1% of apple cusatomers that is targeted with the add (and probably a lot of you are on macrumours)... get over it! You are not the target audience of this ad anyway, as your consumer products are your religion...
