Why should looks not be brought into the equation at least a little bit?

Nokia has always made ugly phones. But their phones had the best reception of any out at the time.

The Touchpoint Dual Band on SprintPCS was a horrific looking phone. But it was the only dual band phone available.

The Palm Pre and Palm Pre Plus look like trash. Yet they were the first to have mobile hotspots - free, mind you.

I'm fine with certain things being considered for the look of a phone. Buying a phone because it matches your purse/clothes/car/etc? No. That's the absolute most ignorant decision factor for a phone. It's a PHONE.

I use the camera on the phone all the time. My wife uses her camera on the phone all the time. Most people I know, even with Androids, use their camera all the time.

The point is, the difference in quality between the iPhone and...say....the RAZR is so negligible as to be laughable for the laymen user. It's not a professional P&S camera, therefore why does it really matter whether one camera has more megapixels or not?

Again, an ignorant decision factor that screams of sheep-ness. Buying into the hype that "the 4S has a better camera so I must buy it" when logically, pictures side by side at the size most people would use, you can't tell a quality difference.

can't people just take this ad for what it is? a funny parody on people who wait in queues for apple products.

there is a huge difference between an ad poking fun, and personally attacking people who wait in queues, which some people here are making this ad out as. even people here have poked fun at people who have waited a day or more in a queue for the new iPhone when you could just walk into a store and grab it on launch day.

the way some people are going on about here you'd think that samsung has called out those people as stupid, which isn't the case. all samsung has done is poked fun at them, by showing the guy with the samsung as a guy who is doing his shopping, going to events, basically doing whatever he needs to do, rather than sit in a queue for hours on end playing on his phone because that's all he has.

All's fair in love and war, I guess.
It's a decent ad, which made me chuckle a little bit.
If Apple can have a 'Get a Mac' campaign(poking fun at Windows), then why can't someone else have a similar thing?

It could backfire with some undecided consumers, who might see it as mere jealousy, but seeing as they're getting killed in mindshare anyway, so it's a risk worth taking.

I think the look of a phone matters just as much as the look of a car.

This is something you're going to use/have to look at everyday for a decent amount of time, depending on how frequently you update.

Why should looks not be brought into the equation at least a little bit?

True... and even more so, depending on where you are. I'm in Singapore now, where the space is tight and cars are extremely overpriced and taxed. Therefore most people can't have one... so before they had watches. Really expensive ones, that you can now buy in great condition at second hand stores. What is the defining object of status this day? An iPhone. This is, at least if the radio host one of these days wasn't lying, the country with the highest ratio of iPhone owners.

I mean... if looks and status weren't important, why would you guys drive those obscenely huge, uncomfortable, expensive and not that efficient trucks in the US?

Whats amusing is the guys in the que were mistaking peoples phones in the steet for iphones, which were galaxy s2's which look like iphones.

Quality made add though

Better tell some of these professional photographers that they are only buying into a hype and that they are sheepish.

Clearly you know more then they do.

Also for those of you comparing the Mac Vs. PC commercials you are missing the point of how they were different. In each commercial they would pick a specific feature or flaw of each product and emphasis it through imagery. It would be no different if they plopped down a Mac and a PC next to one another and had the commercial just show them typing the script on the screen. Showing the computers anthropomorphized as people gave it a personable touch that was easier to relate to. It would have been different if the person playing the Mac stood there, pointed at the PC, and said "people who buy you are stupid". The commercial is better then this.

Perhaps you didn't think so, but a lot of people I know thought the Apple ads were mean spirited, in particular because they seemed to be saying that PC users were older and not as smart.

If the Apple Mac v PC ads had shown equal twins, intelligently comparing product features, that'd be one thing.

Instead, the Apple ads showed the PC user as an older rumpled clueless business type, while the Mac user was young and hip ... and often condescending.

With the Baby Boomers controlling most of the money and sales, those "the younger kid is right" ads got old after a while, and I think that's why they were finally dropped.

Clearly a desperate act of a desperate company. I would rather use a 1st gen 3g iphone than the latest android.

Not to mention, android can't airplay to my apple tv, which i use EVERY DAY, nor can it function as a remote control.

Actually, it can - iTunes Remote for remote control of iTunes and iMediaShare to stream movies, youtube, photos, music) over AirPlay (plus DoubleTwist will also stream music over AirPlay) are available in the Market. I use them every day from my SGS 2 and they work perfectly.
True, it's not built in at an OS level but it's simply not true to say android can't airplay...

The real question for Samsung (for USA users)

The question I always ask of Samsung reps

Will the Galaxy S2 USA models get ice cream sandwich within a reasonable time frame (say Jan-Feb 2012).

Let's just say with Samsungs History it will be close to May by the time USa users get Ice cream sandwich.

Samsung has the absolute worst software android updates of all the high end manufacturers in the USA.

Galaxy S Vibrant model was essentially abandoned after its long delayed froyo 2.2 update in Feb 2011. A mere 7 months after its a release.

Samsung equals abandons USA customers after point of sale.

Apple supports their phones for at least 2 years.

If the Apple Mac v PC ads had shown equal twins, intelligently comparing product features, that'd be one thing.

Yes, but keep in mind that the computer's industrial design are not equal twins and if one were to take the industrial design elements that are inherent in both computers and anthropomorphize them into people it might look similar to the people in the commercials.

To have both actors look exactly the same would neglect one of the underlaying points of the commercial which was industrial design.

Another underlying characteristic of the computers during the time in which the commercials aired was the fact that almost every single business used Wintel PC's. Also Apple Macs were used in the design field. Would you see the actor portraying the PC in the design field? Would you see the actor portraying the Mac in the business field? Perhaps in very small numbers, but not in the majority.

If your job was to translate the computers below and hire actors to portray them would they be different from what was shown in those commercials?

I use my SGS II in the same manner you do and it's great. Flawless fast and fun, it's proof of why so many iPhone lovers are become paranoid and afraid.

Apple is becoming conservative and its showing. The Cupertino company that was once in the lead technologically, is now second to Android. Tiny screens year after year. Big faults like Antennagate & BatteryGate, all of which reflects badly on Apple and kills their slogan of "It Just Works".

In order to hide that fact they are propagating terrific excuses:
"specs don't matter"
"it just works"*
"it's about the experience"
(sometimes, if we forget about Antennagate, BatteryGate, etc)

This is one entertaining thread. Fanbois are squirming now.

Those of us secure in our own purchase decisions are the lucky ones. We get the best seats in the house, as we watch the haters going at it. This movie is only getting better :)

it seems samsung has hit a nerve for a few of the isheep. the only way you couldnt find this advert funny is if you are a fanboy! to deny its funny and thats its a low blow proves even more so that you are nothing more than a apple muppet and you hate it that its poking fun at you. Stupid hipsters cant take a joke

I 100% agree that the latest phones put out by Samsung (SGS 2, nexus) are far superior in hardware than the iP4s. I really hated Apple for brining the 4S instead of the rumoured iPhone 5. So I sold my iPhone and bought the SGS 2 about a month ago.

The conversion wasn't exactly easy, I needed to convert iCal and Address book over to google, gave up bookmark sync with safari (use alternatives like dolphin browser sync). Get wireless photo sync with Air Sync. Sync and play music with Double twist instead of iTunes. Use whatsApp instead of iMessager. Use Box.net and dropbox instead of iCloud. Evernotes replaces iOS' (auto synced) Notes. As you can see, it took a bit of research to get these apps setup and working. It was worth it - mainly to be able to get a much nicer UI with WIDGETS!! All the information you want (clock, email, Facebook updates, news, weather etc) on the home screen. You can fully customize the home screen (Launcher); e.g., make screen scrolling as rotating cube. It was such an eye candy... at first...

then there's the problem...

Phone starts crashing and restarting itself...

At first, it was crashing once in a while (a week?), just could not get back (took a minute) to the home screen after closing an app. So I started reducing the number of widgets one at a time to see if which one was eating up all the ram. No real luck. I starting rebooting the phone routinely, like once a day (like fresh booting windows). It might have helped, but still crashed regularly. One day, I was player with the setting with ADW launcher during a boring class. Within in 15 minutes, the phone crashed 3 times! while I was a doing different things each time.

Here's the dilemma, I could remove all widgets and go back to stock launcher for much better stability. May be I just didn't know what I was doing...
But then, is Android any better without all these eye candies? Do I really have the time to trouble shoot which widget or launcher is the problem?

The next day, I got rid of the phone, and also my Galaxy TAB 10.1 (which experienced more or less similar crashing problems), picked up a used iPhone 4S from kijiji.

I don't care what the other "layman" people can tell the difference. Anyway, I can tell a difference, my wife can tell a difference.
We aren't talking about viewing them on the screen of the phone or a 4x6 printout. If I print one out at full 8x10, I can tell a difference...

Also, the new camera isn't as bad with vibrations and movement of the subject. That was one of my big beefs with the camera on the 3gs and 4. Telling my kids to hold still so it wasn't blurry. I don't have that problem anymore as much. Still nowhere as good as our Nikon of course, but yes... there is a difference.

It isn't just the megapixel. It is the filter, it is the aperture... F/2.8 to f/2.4 is a difference.

However, that isn't the only reason I upgraded. One of several reasons...

I get it, you don't like it.

I do... will you get that?

Btw. There isn't a need to personally attack people because you dont personally agree with their opinions.
Just because I think, among many, that the camera is a good reason of several to upgrade does not make me or them sheep. However, someone that has to personally attack to make their point screams of being an asshat.

You just tripped up yourself so much there fella let me help you out, apple designed the iPhone Samsung manufactures ( assembles) the product for apple and everyone talks about Samsung like if it's the only company tha manufactures the iPhone

check your facts buddy...

Are you any better than "stupid hipsters" by calling others names? :roll eyes:

I personally see no relation to that commercial and real Apple users. As I said in another thread people buy Apple because their stuff works. The day it stops working well is the day you'll stop seeing people line up for their products.

Samsung wishes people would line up for their products.. their products just have lack of culture, and are a blatant copy of what Apple does...

Did anyone else notice that 40 seconds into the commercial, the chick holding the Samesung phone has a Snow Leopard wallpaper. I wonder if the idiots at Samesung even realized it?

Lol stupid apple trolls and their myths. No Apple cpu's were not better than intel cpu's, no macs were not more secure than windows pc's and no apple stuff does not just work lol. Why do people spout the same old **** over and over again. Show me one bit of proff! open your eyes to the threads on this forums and the hundreds of other forums where people are having numerous issues with IOS. yes android has issues but no one denys it. You isheep act like the iphone is flawless when its far from it. My iphone has had to be rebooted 4 times since i bought it a few weeks ago plus numerous other issues. If i goto Diagnostics option in settings i have hunderds of crashes from safari to springboard. Not only this but my battery is lucky to last 10 hrs when on standby and doing nothing else. Yeah my ass it just works

Go find me 1 real virus for the Mac? Not a Trojan, but a virus that can be automatically installed. How about spyware?

I can find you tons for the PC.

I have had a couple issues with my iMac over the past 4 years. Nowhere close to the blue screens I used to deal with. Yes Windows 7 is leaps and bounds better than vista and previous windows.

I simply love how aggressive people can get when someone else doesn't share their opinion.

Who here is claiming there are no problems with the iPhone?

In the four years I have owned an iPhone I have had to force a reboot maybe 4 times. Maybe 5. I have had it reboot on its own maybe twice. All of those were related to an app that was running wild.

Sorry some folks are having battery issues. My buddy does with his iPhone 4. I have had no problems. I can go an easy day and a half or mre on standby. Hopefully the 5.02 fixes it for everyone. I think some other phone makers seem to have similar battery problems.

BTW MAC's CPUs aren't faster than Intel's. You know why? They ARE Intel!!! At least now.

Other than an iPhone do you have anything Apple? Do you have a clue how easily everything in the Apple ecosystem works seemlessly together?

I worked and programmed on Windows for years and yes OSX is more stable and has less issues. You know why? They strictly control the hardware and the software. Microsoft doesnt have that luxury.

perhaps read this then **** http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/18/the-engadget-interview-dr-charlie-miller/

clearly your to young to remember the same old arguments we used to have back when apple used their own cpu's! it was the same old stuff of apple makes better cpu's just like apple makes better phones, apple dont get viruses ect ect funny that because apple switched to intel cpu's even though they were inferior then suddenly all the isheep shut up about theit cpu's being the better cpu's and after the isheep were proven wrong about macs being safer than pc's for viruses they all shut up but some of these myths still pop up from time to time. its always gonna be the same way for the isheep and it will never change.
