Are you speaking about SSD and LCD panels on Macs? Those are a different category. Macs are computers, based on quite standard architectures.
Apple uses components from many manufacturer for their computers.
 
Because making chips is HARD. You put a billion dollars up front and hope your engineers get it right or you get squat. There's no prize for making a 16 nm chip now, that's last year's model.

Samsung can't seem to get a leash on their marketing dogs. They never had any business Apple-bashing because Samsung is playing both sides... You buy a Galaxy, they win... You buy an iPhone they still win a little less cause most of the important parts they make. If they'd have kept their mouths shut they'd be a lot richer and Apple wouldn't keep trying to cut them out.

Ah, gotcha. That's why I also mentioned iOS would need a real dark mode too in order for the AMOLED screens to be useful. Otherwise you are correct that it would be a rather pointless change.

Yep. To be honest I don't care about what technology will be used on my next iPhone's display, as long as the actual quality will be preserved.

Apple and IBM sign a deal to work together in industry business. IBM sold the fab to Global Foundries. Global Foundries synched their 14 nm Process with Samsung.

Look at the companies, and think about it - is it coincidence?

One more thing to this puzzle: AMD got back to GloFo for producing GPUs. And right now Samsung thinks about buying AMD.

That's just the UI. IMO, videos look a lot better on OLED than on LCD.

The case sizes appear to represent the distance from top to bottom of the case. The actual diagonal measurement of the display appears to be about 93.2% the distance from the top to bottom of the case (at least in the 42mm watch case). This puts the pixel density of the 42mm watch at about 324 ppi. (The 38mm watch seems to have a pixel density of about 312 ppi. Although, the 38mm watch display may actually be 96% smaller proportional to the case as the 42mm watch giving it the same 324 ppi.)

These are only observations I could get from actual photos. Even though 324 ppi is very close, I don't think that the watch would necessarily have 326 ppi like all the Retina @2x iPhones. (Not the Retina @3x iPhone 6 Plus. It's 401 ppi, 51% more areal density than the other iPhones.)
