So you're also saying that the "older brother" is pretty much dependent on the work of the "pain in the ass middle child" for all its successes right?

i thought so

You don't think at all. Where did I even suggest that Apple is dependent on Samsung for it's successes?

So you are all slamming Samsung for comming with a product that is according to you based on Apple ideas?

The smartwatch from Apple is only a rumour and only a rumour. You can't base any argument on rumors. '' A source within Apple report the company is working on flying tv's.'' Yes, clearly a valid point to slam Samsung.

This. I love how people just assume Apple was first. I see Apple as a rumor and Samsung confirmed, how do we know Apple didn't copy Samsung??? Oh wait Apple NEVER steals or copies from anyone, right? Oh please, Apple takes just as many features and ideas from other companies as are taken from them; don't kid yourselves Apple blind fans.

At this point it is not about who does it first, it who does it best. Samsung has been delivering some nice electronics for the past few years. Admit or not, Samsung is a tech leader and is working to differentiate themselves more and more with success.

I've said it before. Watches are on the downturn, they are now only for jewellery.

Apple will not and should not even consider this market as the people who are spending cash on watches would have no interest in a tech watch, in fact no one does. It's the kind of product that will always fail and it has nothing to do with functionality, no one wants to listen to music from their watch, play videos, write emails or anything like that.

Hell most watch owners tell the time from their phone when they check their twitter account and never even look at their 10k watch!

I can see no benefit, using a watch rather than just slipping the phone out of your pocket. I would never use a product where I couldn't very comfortably action something like a notification or email. The watch is a dead prospect that only geeks think is a possibility.

Apple heed this warning you do not want to make a watch.

Leave it to samsung to show you just how small the market and success of a tech watch would be.

I still think apple is developing some nice new products but I don't think TV or a Watch is one of them.

My prediction is two new phones of different sizes one larger iphone and one cheaper current size 4 inch phone made with cheaper plastic. That is the reality of what apple is doing right now.

A retina ipad as well is defo in the works as well, a slimmer bezel full size ipad too.

Maybe some payment/credit/bank link with the fingerprint rumour on the new phones too.

These are the most convincing ones about i think they are pretty much guaranteed.

No leave samsung to it apple.

If by development, you mean waiting until Apple develops theirs for ideas :D

Dick Tracy and plenty of other cartoon/sci-fi characters all had magical watches too. There is nothing Apple created out of thin air.

Just like how Apple saw 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Trek: The Next Generation for portable touch screen devices? (or even Star Trek: The Original Series, but those big black boxes had a stylus - like how the big black Newton box made decades later also had a stylus...)

Or Apple suing Samsung and Google for copying, when Apple's own history is replete with the same sorts of copying (sans the patent trolling that would have ensured the companies suing Apple winning rather than losing?)...

To sum it up:

The creative (right-brained) people work to come up with cool ideas.

Technical (left-brained) people work to make ideas into reality.

Both sides need each other, but meanwhile:

Marketers (slick, silver-tongued entities) convince intellectual feebles that they themselves did all the work all by themselves, and everyone else is an overpaid leech or thief. It's the easiest job, if you're at the right place and at the right time.

No, it means a company other than Apple is capable of bringing out a product first! Just because rumours state Apple is working on a watch, it doesn't give them sole exclusivity on the idea; or mean if Samsung bring one out (first) they copied Apple in any way!

All that said, these days, if everyone waited for Apple to innovate a product to be copied by others, we'd have nothing in the shops to buy!

the watch is a great idea for, for example, Note II users. No good for Apple then with their piddly 4" screens!!!!!

I really don't get this whole Samsung vs Apple mentality.

In regards of the smart watch, others did it before them both, get over it, they are both copying. :p

Why aren't you guys like this in regards of cars? Clothes? Shoes? Music? Food? Why just this little aspect of technology?

The thing that constantly surprises me is that it's not just a regional thing either, there are fanboys for both sides from all over the globe.

Back on topic, it's a watch that syncs with your phone, that'll be handy for some I suppose, but how will they cope with having such a small screen when they are all screaming for larger and larger displays on everything else?

Hopefully, after they release something along the lines of what their limited imaginations think Apple will be developing, Apple will then release something far superior, which will make their device a flop.

Of course they'll then just release something else which rips off Apple's iWatch claiming it's all just one big coincidence.

Ironically, today, the reverse is true for Apple - in that Apple haven't 'developed' anything better than Samsung (or most others) for some time! Just look at Apples answer to the S4 .... Errr ... we can't can we, because we only have (more lame) rumours; and any hard evidence points to a 5S with a better camera and fingerprint reader ... Whoop whoop! I doubt Samsung have ANYTHNG to worry about!

I like watches even though I currently don't wear one.

That said an information / notification device shaped like a watch and the least of what it did was tell the time I'd be on that in a second. Great for cycling / jogging especially if paired with a heart rate monitor and GPS from my iPhone would be simply awesome.

I didn't think I'd find it but here is the link where an ex-employee says that Samsung had an Apple imitation group with 400 (!) people and a budget of $370,000,000.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1157386/

EDIT: Just pointing out that I'm not saying this smart watch has anything to do with this group or anything. Just found it interesting that a poster made up a fake ridiculous scenario and it's actually apparently true.

Samsung's watch will have a bunch of gimmicky features...

But APPLE'S watch will be REVOLUTIONARY!!!

also, safari will be snappier.

The difference, of course, is that NOBODY actually bought this stuff until Apple perfected the design, features, and ease-of-use part. Once shown how to do it by Apple the so-called competition jumped in. The smartwatch market will be exactly the same.

How exactly did Apple show everyone how to do it when they haven't done it yet themselves?

They wouldn't be targeting the watch wearing market. The idea is for a wearable piece of tech with easy access which just happens to strap to the wrist like a watch. The state of the watch market is irrelevant.

You're not being very creative with your ideas, you're basically just taking iPhone applications (music, videos, emails) and putting them on a watch. What about things like device tethering/locating, authentication, turn by turn directions, notifications and reminders, Siri, as a remote, health/fitness. I can think of a ton of use cases where I'd rather have iOS on my wrist than in my pocket, the same way sometimes I want iOS on a tablet or tv rather than on my phone.

Do some of you even read the damn links?

How are you going to sit there and say Samsung copied again.

Sometimes I feel like Apple is worse than religion. At least religious people have common sense. The Apple fanatics have no common sense. Apple made everything. EVERYTHING.

Samsung made this in 1999.

I guess Samsung went back in time and copied the concept of Apple's watch. Apple didn't even have a prototype back in 1999.

.....“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, said during an interview in Seoul. “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.” Lee had no comment on what features the watch may have, how much it would cost and when it would go on sale.

"We have been working on it for sooo long. I mean, like, really long. We can make a new smart phone every 10 minutes, but the watch....whew that takes a loooong time."
"Aren't you just waiting to see the specs on the Apple watch and then just copy it?"
"No, we're just waiting to get it just right."
"So when is your watch coming out?"
"About 3 months after Apple's"
"But Apple hasn't announced when/if it will be released."
"Buahahahahahahahahahah... ahem, sorry I have cold."

It's beyond believable that both APPLE and SAMSUNG had this 'light-bulb' moment at the same time, about the market needing a 'smart-watch'.

One of them is copying the other! Sammy, if nothing else, you are sooo consistent. :D

As Sony or Motorola have released smartwatches, are you saying that Samsung and Apple have copied them?
