Market caps is less than $200 billion. So for less than $200 billion, someone could buy all their shares.

I don't think you have any clue what you're talking about.

Market Cap is the current value of all outstanding shares tradable on the public market.

this is NOT what is required to purchase a company outright.

I recommend researching a little more.

Samsung = high-quality chips and displays

I just got the S6 edge, and I gotta say, the display is absolutely insane compared to the iPhone. Way more accurate, bright, and attractive. Viewing angles are also insane.

I hope Apple just adopts the new screens Samsung is putting out.

I hope you realize that this is precisely the reason why Apple wants to get away from Samsung.
Samsung can keep their best technology for themselves and give Apple 2-year-old models like how they give Motorola and Nokia 2-year-old SAMOLED tech.
Apple went to other suppliers like LG and JDI in hopes that increasing their funds will help them match Samsung, but it hasn't worked.

say what you want, but so far most of the reviews, especially ones based on objective numbers are pegging the S6 display as the current best available display in a smartphone.

http://anandtech.com/show/9111/samsung-galaxy-s6-and-s6-edge-preview/2

say what you want about the rest of the device, and it's failings (where there are sure to be some), but Samsung is currently producing some of the best display technology in the world.\

The iphone display is also one of the best in the world right now too. Credit to both these companies for giving great quality displays.

Apple only bought the displays. They hardly had anything to do with its development. LG and JDI engineered and made them. The only reason why the iPhone's screens aren't on other devices is because Apple bought out the entire supply chain, so other companies couldn't use them in their products.

No, it doesn't work like that, now they love Samsung, when someone eats at the same table as Apple, they also become idolised.

Not really, this is nothing new. Samsung has been supplying Apple since forever.

I do think that sales for the Galaxy S series will continue to stay stagnant at best and since Samsung's profit margin isn't as high as the iPhone/iPad etc that will be a losing position for them long term.

You haven't been keeping up, have you? The S6/S6 Edge is exceeding sales expectations, and Samsung had to triple S6 Edge production to meet demand.

But apple could have settled for less quality displays, instead of making LG and JDI work their buts off

its all supply chain stuff, good on all parties involved. the better the tech, the better for everyone.

what i find weird is that they produced such an amazing quality display for the iPhone

but LG's own phone displays have left me disappointed.

Also, there's a strict barrier between LG Display and LG Electronics much like how Samsung operates. LG Display remains neutral in the smartphone wars.
If they think the iPhone will sell more than LG's phones, then they will sell their best technology to Apple if Apple decides to ask for them and offer a higher price than LG Electronics.

Samsung was desperately mocking Apple for years with its stupid Anti-Apple commercials

Steve should be laughing from where he is...

I think most people have issues with Samsung's crappy software and tasteless design, not with their chips or screens.

Yeah, but many people still come here and dump on them even though it's my understanding that these two areas of their business are fairly siloed. It's too bad that they can't just split the company in two and name the hardware components division something else. These people work to make quality, fast components. They've found a way to manufacture at an enormous scale while keeping prices that many other companies can't match. That's a pretty incredible feat. Meanwhile their industrial designers, software engineers and management working on their phones, accessories and store designs are a bunch of hacks.

Ok if you say so...but the S series and edge numbers don't even come close to the iPhone 6 numbers.

But over all I don't the Samsung flag ship phones are gaining market share compared to the iPhone. Time will tell.

Not too sure about that.
Samsung was limiting itself by focusing on utility over form in their previous phones, but they're now working in reverse.
The S6 feels much better than any Apple product I owned and it's amazing how durable it is for a phone exterior made with mostly glass.
The S6 Edge is definitely the most attractive smartphone out there right now.

Who's to say these guys are really not there to Pilfer ideas from Apple? ;)

Why would they do that? If Samsung wanted to steal ideas, they'd just walk over to an Apple store and try out their products.

Exactly. I think it's safe to assume they are always trying to pilfer ideas...that's the way Samsung Mobile operates. When they try to innovate they come out with a product like the the Galaxy Gear.

Well, the Apple watch isn't any better despite all the fake media hype trying to sell it.
The Apple watch has poor battery life and lags/stutters A LOT. It's so bad that even the most pro-Apple sites like The Verge and CNET couldn't ignore it like how they usually ignore flaws of Apple products.

I think it's just shocking that there is such a gross difference in the quality.

take the LG made Nexus 5, or even the G3. Both had very good LG made displays. The G3 even had a super high resolution display before most others.

But they in no way came anywhere close to the quality of display they were providing for others.

it might make some sense from a supply chain / profit stance of the display manufacturing portion, but it hurts their mobile division. if LG phones started having iphone quality displays, I think they'd be a better competitor in the industry.

This is how most Korean conglomerates operate. If they start showing favoritism to their own sister companies, they'll lose the trust of their other customers.

Also, it's not as illogical as you make it seem. If your consumer products aren't as popular as a competitor's but you still end up using your best on your own products, you're going to lose capex on R&D, meaning you're going to lose ground to your competitors in the component space, which will kill the lead you had on component competition.

Now Samsung is a different story. If Samsung is able to continue to success of the S6/S6 Edge, they may reach a point where they no longer have to rely on outsiders to supply them with orders. Just think of a future where iPhones are always inferior to Galaxy S phones in every department ranging from camera, display, NAND speed, RAM, etc. That's what Apple is so afraid of.

Haha. Nice headline. If I hadn't read the article, I would have thought this was a satirical article explaining how it takes 200 Samsung employees to copy Apple's products.

That was exactly my first reaction, except I didn't think there would be anything satirical.

This still strikes me as so odd. Is Samsung the only company in the world that can cater to Apple for screens and CPUs? Granted, Apple is one of their biggest customers, but Samsung is a huge conglomerate. It would seem that if Samsung wanted to completely screw over Apple, they could. Perhaps not overtly, but certainly in ways that could slow Apple's release schedule.

First of all congratulations on being that guy who signs onto an Apple forum to criticize Apple products.

Second, I've seen way more positive reviews of the Apple Watch than negative ones.

Third, any reviews that can viewed as negative all say "It's the best smartwatch available, but..."

Finally, stop wasting everyone's time with your nonsense.

Yes, it's called fake media hype. There's nothing "magical" about the Apple Watch like there was with the first iPhone.
If you ever read between the lines of these glowing reviews, you'd realize the reviewers are trying so desperately to find redeeming qualities about the watch.
