Was their relationship ever bad? They are rivals in some markets, but partners in others. I think it were fanboys who interpreted this as war instead of a friendly match. Both companies are so massive and complex, it’s silly to think that they could be associated with vendettas.

I interpreted this as: Samsung gives up trying to copy Apple products and instead starts making the actual products.

There is no "Samsung". There is Samsung mobile division which loves to copy Apple products instead of creating their own. And there is Samsung semiconductor division which loves to create parts for anyone in the world with the money to buy them, including Apple. Especially Apple, since they buy _lots_ of parts.

And the boss of Samsung semiconductor hates the boss of Samsung mobile as much as anyone on MacRumors does. And he is really, really happy that _his_ division has increased revenue and profit, while the mobile division has dropped revenues, and crashed profits.

Apple should just buy Samsung.

I was waiting for this type of comment.

and it's pure utter ignorance.

Apple is a massive company because of it's cash holdings.

Samsung is a massive company because of it's breadth of scope and sheer mass of what it does.

currently, it's total assets are worth 100 billion, with a total OE of 30Billion. Revenues of 200+billion

this doesn't even take into account that if apple wanted to purchase Samsung there would be a tremendous amount of 'goodwill'. A company like samsung if sold would likely cost upwards of 500 BILLION or more (likely in trillions).

if you think Apple (or any other current tech company) can come along and scoop up Samsung, you completely underestimate Samsung's scope of business, size and influence in the world. They are one of the largest conglomerates on earth, currently ranked 15th. Apple is currently ranked 16th.

What does the boss of Samsung washing machines think about all this?

No, its about registering a protest against the many here that think samsung are the devil.

But how many people here dislike Samsung to the point that they despise the fact that Samsung produces components for Apple devices?

Plenty of people on these forums have disdain for the way Samsung's mobile division behaves. I'm one of them. But I and many others have the utmost respect for Samsung as a quality supplier for some of the best parts of Apple devices- the screens on Macs, and the processors and screens on iOS devices. Samsung does an excellent job with those components.

They're just bitter with LG all the time.
but LG had it coming. their boss got caught kicking in the doors of Samsung washing machines on showroom floors

Say what you will about Samsung, but they really do make some pretty good panels (and CPUs and SSDs). I had an LG panel in my rMBP which had image retention issues. Apple repaired it for free and put a Samsung panel in and it looks amazing with no retention whatsoever.
I think most people have issues with Samsung's crappy software and tasteless design, not with their chips or screens.

Samsung is a commodity parts supplier who produces good yields on their components and has better quality control than their competitors. What this doesn't make is Samsung being responsible for the "technology" in Apple's stuff...they aren't even responsible for the technology in their own stuff, they didn't invent OLED, nor flexible OLED, nor transparent OLED, nor just about anything that they show off every year. My disdain is with those who think they're something more than this, that Samsung is some hero who is inventing and advancing technology rather than advancing manufacturing techniques.

Judging by the various bugs, design faults and poor product launches, I think that's more people than Apple have working on Apple products.

Haha. Nice headline. If I hadn't read the article, I would have thought this was a satirical article explaining how it takes 200 Samsung employees to copy Apple's products.

They seem to love that number 200.

Made 200 drawings to NOT copy the iPhone look and then came up with naming their phones S#, currently the S6.

Actually ahead of the 6s.

Since copying the master to perfection in Asia brings great honor, we'll have to agree they are doing a really fine job in honoring Apple.

Maybe that team works for Apple during the day and then switches to SAMSUNG for the night shift.

Nahh.......

Market caps is less than $200 billion. So for less than $200 billion, someone could buy all their shares.

Uhh, that is precisely what advancing component technology is. Technological advances in components come from improving manufacturing techniques in order to get higher quality parts.

Here's a write-up about JDI's IPS-neo: http://www.j-display.com/english/news/2014/20140717.html

In fact, the reason why the iPhone's screen isn't as good as the Galaxy S's screens is because Apple switched to different suppliers (LG) that had different manufacturing techniques, and thus different technology.

Please stop spouting crap you don't know. Apple is just a repackager. The "design" non-sense is nothing but marketing gimmick in order to get patriotic Americans to buy their products. Apple "designs" their products the same way Dell "designs" their PCs - They just repackage technology from other companies. The hardest part about making the iPhone is deciding whose technology to use. Apple isn't responsible for the development of the components in their products.
The only part that Apple does design are the CPU cores, and those are based off old Exynos blueprints that Samsung sold to Apple when Apple bought Intrinsity.
