Capitalism is so much praised by the western (especially the north-american) world. Fact is though, the asian market learned to understand and use capitalism on a level other capitalistic systems in the rest of the world can not hold up with anymore.

Samsung is clever. Swallow it.

All of you guys sound like 3rd graders. It's an ad. Get over it. Enjoy what you have right now and don't worry about the next man.

Pathetic!

Laughable & pathetic. They so lack creativity that they have to copy Apple's ads, too!

----------

Amid falling profits, Samsung needed to figure out a quick way to revitalize the brand. The answer: Go back to their roots and copy the iPhone on all facets.

:D true story! :)

Woah, hold your horses MacRumors. That's not Richard Ayoade (at least I'm sure it's not).
a) The voice has an unusual, almost mimic-y posh twang at the end of certain words.
b) It's not nasal enough.
c) Richard Ayoade would never say 'aluminum' out of respect for himself.

Anyway, the video isn't exactly a copy because it doesn't talk about the design process of their watch. Because that's made just like any other Samsung crap, cheap plastic, tacky design, how many Neo Gear whatsits have they sold...?

Weirdly I thought it was a bad impersonation of a British accent until I saw the possibility of Richard Ayoade being the voice over artist, after rewatching I'm now unsure. I'm agreeing with you though, it would seem odd, especially since he was in these legitimate UK iPhone6 ads with Chris O'Dowd not long ago -

The problem is that Koreans improve on inventions but they do not invent (speaking about consumer electronics and user experience etc).
That's the problem with them...they are "soulless" without and identity. They have yet to change their culture to really make a difference.

Do not take me wrong. Their products are great, they work their asses to be the best...but...They are ashamed of being an asian company and they are ashamed of going with their unique style. Hence they copy others and improve their products.

It's the same identity problem they have with Kia & Hyundai on a luxury cars segment (see hyundai genesis and k9 vs BMW,Lexus,Mercedes blah blah).
And it's the same when it comes to comparing cultures with Japanese. Yes Japan has a lot of unique things that are seen badass in eyes of western audience like samurais, ninjas, katana and a concept of honor (seppuku).

etc.

This is easily the most ignorant and bigoted post I've seen on MR.

You know nothing of Asia or its cultures, as evinced by your foolish and infantile list of Japanese "unique things that are seen as badass." You don't actually know any Japanese or Korean language or culture.

I'm an Apple fanboy but need to remind you Samsung makes the chips that power many Apple devices, is a massive industrial conglomerate, and that both companies manufacture in China.

Thirty years ago bigoted, ignorant Americans said Japanese industries could "only copy" American products. Then Toyota cleaned GM's clock.

Then it was China. All they can do is copy. Now they're about to land men on the moon, while the U.S. relies on Russia for rockets.

These days Japan out-innovates the U.S. in key industries, and China is kicking our ass all over the planet.

Go back to watching hentai and pretending you've ever been to Asia.

Fifty years from now when we will have realized that we endraped this planet with our constant greed for gadgets, we will watch commercials like these thinking 'damn, it's too late now...'

Just think, slaves, just think. <3

Eh have you read my whole post or you just picked the stuff you wanted ?
I also have listed a bunch of positive stuff about samsung and Korea. Not sure where did you get the impression i don't know anything about Asia at all.

Things i listed for japan were the things known to average Joe and that was my point. Your average Joe does not know about Yi Sun Shin or Sejong.

Also Samsung manufactures its highend components in Korea (Suwon).

And btw i am not american as you have probably guessed from my terrible english.

No I read your whole post. You said Korean culture was only good at imitation. That's an old orientalist slam.

You do not speak Japanese or Koeean and adding a few words you looked up doesn't convince me otherwise. You sound like a high school kid.

And a bigot.

Samsung indeed does manufacture in China, do your research.

And a Lexus IS a better car than any German brand. First every nation imitates, and then it innovates. Korea is well into out-innovating the U.S. Apple is a rare bright spot among American companies, but a lot of their engineers are from Asia.

I speak Japanese and have spent much time there. Don't BS me.

Eh i never said i speak any of these languages you listed. Also i have not said that Koreans are only good at imitating.
But maybe it sounded like that because of my english.

Maybe you could be less hostile to people on internet and do not expect a troll/hater at every corner ?

What i said was that koreans are seen inferior by western people compared to japanese.
It's mostly like Japan > Korea > China/taiwan. And it's mostly because the japanese have been conquerors and the anime, manga, katanas, samurais are basically very known to them and considered "cool" even by older generation.

What i said is that Korea have not marketed itself as an original niche brand like japanese did with Lexus or Acura or whatever (even when they are just a daugthers companies). My point was that korea has not created an image for average joe. They are known for kpop, samsung and plastic surgeries while japan is known for lexus, japanese quality and katanas which are considered a superb swords (they are not that good).

And as about research....Suwon is basically a samsung city where they manufacture highend chips and components. Of course they also have a manufacturing plants in China and also in Vietnam how are you going to meet the world demand by only having a plant in Korea.

Dude less bashing i love asia as much as any other nation / country.

Don't get me wrong. Not saying I agree with what he said. But I really don't like these kind of arguments like "I lived there, I know what I'm talking about ..."
Besides my mother tongue and English I speak Chinese and Korean. I also lived several years in Asia. But because I can speak two Asian languages and lived there several years I still would not call myself an "expert" in Asian culture or even use this fact as "proof" of my arguments...

So what do you think is wrong with what i said ?

Awful, awful ads. Showcases the worst of Samsung.

And I say this, owning a S6 Edge after switching from iOS! One step forward, two steps back. I thought I was free of the Jony Ive overly (to the point of being self-satire) dramatic promo videos.

Now, I've seen something far, far worse - a bad copy of it.

So much anger and hate in this thread. Go out! Look at nature! Reflect on the beauty of being alive!

I can just imagine how this video was born. A conference call where all Samsung Mobile marketing team is gattered and Lee Sang-chul (Chief Marketing Director at Samsung Mobile) stands up and take the word:

- Guys, I want to show you some videos - says Lee
(Then the videos of the apple watch for the different series start to roll out)
- As you can see - says Lee , Apple is emphazing on their craftmenship and the story behind the design and materials used for their products. We have to do something, this is our chance to catch up. Since we also use alluminum and advanced CNC tools to cut our latest flagship phones, I suggest that we make the some videos for the S6 and the Edge in the Apple way.
(Then Choi Gee-sung, Samsung Mobile CEO stands up and take the word)
- Lee, you are brilliant - says Choi, I also like how Jonny Ive pronounce "aluminium", just make sure this is also included in our ad and start practicing your British accent. By the way, what is this on your wrist?
- Its the Apple Watch boss - says Lee, its a great!
- Hmm, its beatiful indeed - says Choi, make sure that our next Galaxy Gear looks the same and mimics the interface and the bands. The stupid american customers will think it is the same thing but cheaper and will buy our watch.

Their ads aren't for Apple people so it really shouldn't matter. Their ads are made to convince Android buyers to get Samsung instead of HTC, LG, Motorola. You know, the companies they actually compete against.

If Samdung wants to make a substantial profit in their mobile division and be truly competitive with Apple they're going to have to convince "Apple people" to switch. Have you seen HTC market share data?

You realise that's the proper way of spelling aluminium?

Aluminium is British. Aluminum is American. When a guy with a British accent says aluminum, it sounds like either a fake or a parody.

What's the proper way, "realize" or "realise"? Which way should it be spelled or spelt? Where was your spelling learned or learnt? Perhaps your post should be canceled or cancelled. Traveling or travelling to other countries may be fun especially when your dictionary with color or colour pictures has been burned or burnt.

The fact some get so angry over stuff like this is absolutely hilarious. That S6 Edge is downright sexy Lol

The "Edge" itself has limited, if any, value. It's a gimmick. That's Samdung's design DNA: gimmicks. (Like bumping phones-pure gimmick).

It is Samdung's nicest design and it's a quality device. It's still pretty "me too" in it's appearance.
