Because they have 78% of the market share and Apple only has 19% of it? And yes competition is savior, imagine if Apple had any more share given how crappy the last iPhones are.

Apple takes in the lion share of the mobile profits. The rest including Samsung takes the scraps. Samsung is doing everything possible to copy the iPhone to increase their profits. Removing SD and removable battery are all part of a strategy to force users to buy higher storage capacity phones. In line with Apple, this is a move to increase profits.

Also, copying the UI and making the naming convention similar is a move to help scrupulous sales reps at various carrier stores sell iPhone like devices to uninformed buyers. Samsung will fail again and will be on their last leg this time next year.

With the absence of a removable battery, expandable storage, and waterproofing, you may as well get an iPhone 6 Plus or 6s Plus (when released) instead of this.

Sure, the internals are still better, but the experience with Touchwiz is generally dreadful. iOS does less than Android, but what it does do, it does it perfectly.

Your post has merit and I'd only quibble with: "it does it perfectly".
iOS does a lot of things well, many things very well, and some things horribly. "Perfectly" comes off sycophantic and, frankly, untrue.

I love how Samsung's unique selling points were a SD card slot, water/dustproof chassis and a removable battery, so they removed all of them. At seeing low sales for S6, they quickly released new models, which also don't have those features. I'm sure it's going to work really well!
They made 6 billion profit last quarter my friend.. And somehow you are gloating at thier demise.. Oh dear..

The one thing I like is that screenshot feature whereby you can take a screenshot of the entire 'scrollable page' e.g. a page of directions or something. That's useful.

But.... it's a minor software tweak. It's not going to get me to buy their new phone, which is a slightly confusing affair as there's now two phones with the same screen size except one's curved, and one has stylus input. They have the same specs otherwise!

Also about the screenshot feature... how many of their existing phones will get it? If any?

And it will fail for the very same reasons that the Galaxy S6 was a flop, no microSD slot and no removable battery.

"Samsung Profit Slides For 7th Consecutive Quarter Amid S6 Edge Shortage [...]
Samsung says it probably miss forecasts for the second quarter, with operating profit from April to June likely to slide 4% on an annual basis to 6.9 trillion won ($6.13 billion). Analysts had forecast earnings at 7.2 trillion won ($6.35 billion).

That will mark the second-consecutive quarterly profit decline for Samsung on an annual basis, at a time when the company is struggling to revitalize its product portfolio while Apple takes a bigger bite of the market on the high end and low-cost players like Xiaomi and India’s Micromax sell more phones on the lower end."

Go Samsung.

Well it will most likely never come to the UK.

Or anywhere in Europe... Europe in general is far ahead of US in NFC adaptation and therefore only thing standing between wider Apple Pay adaptation in Europe is Apple's slow approach of making deals with European banks.

Haha. Love how they're rushing to release ahead of the next iPhones.

The Galaxy Note 5 isn't even going to be released in Europe this year!!

By the way, their watch and add-on keyboard both look hideous.
The note 4 was released last year, how would it not be released this yr? ..

Major disappointment to Note fans, they took out the SD slot, and the battery is now fixed. They removed the IR port and only bumped the CPU a bit.
Every option Note people loved except for the S Pen was removed.

You just can’t make this up. o_O They focus on business customers and literally remove the things business customers care about. The only thing I can imagine would be appealing is the keyboard, but it doesn’t look that great. Even BlackBerry is now promoting touch-sensitive plastic keyboards and seamless integration with the controls of the system.

Man, was it me or was that presentation terrible? Night and day difference compared to what Apple puts on.

It was terrible, they sounded so scripted I didn't believe a word they said it just came across as so false, also they just skipped right past the phones details, a rushed job just so they could announce before Apple does next month. Adding the fact that the Note 5 won't be available over here in Europe, I think Samsung have started to dig their own grave.

I'm keeping my Note 4 and Note Edge for another year. I have removable batteries for each and love being able to just change the battery every day.

As for the watch, it continues to run Tizen like the Gear S so the app support will be poor and Samsung will give little support as they did with the Gear S. I quit wearing my Gear S almost two months ago and I bought it in February. It's the most boring thing I have ever wasted money on.

The Note is the flagship but Samsung are puahing te Edge+. The worrying thing that is also funny is at the start of the keynote they made a big deal about listening to customers and giving products customers want... But they still have over bloating software, crap memory size with no expnsion and an unremovable battery.

I would be very tempted by a Note if it was more refined. But that is just because I am desperate for a proper stylus experience for productivity and design.

Apple could bury Samsung if they used their dam stylus patents.

As for specs this is an awful update. 4GB Ram is loads but still will only perform marginally better than an iPhone due to system demands.

The camera is nothing special and the rest is not worth mentioning.

The best feature for me was being able to take a note on the Note 5 while the screen is off. I would kill for that at work.
