I think the struggle I have is I would gladly switch to the Note 7, and this is coming from an Apple fanatic. But I have so much invested into Apple with their hardware, with the iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac, ect... And their ecosystem works rather well how they all communicate and sync together. When you factor all those together, it's hard to pull away, unless you have only invested in the iPhone itself. It's like a cult that won't let me Go.

And both Apple and Samsung
Have advantages/disadvantages. I'm hoping for the September Key Note to bring something special we have NOT been expecting.
The same goes for me and many others. I've just got a Mac and iPhone, had both for years but they both work like they're a family. I couldn't do without my Notes app and the photos syncing between my devices amongst other things. It's hard to have that courage to disconnect that bond between the devices but I'm edging ever so close. After a few years of disappointment, I've decided the iPhone 7 keynote will be the Judgement Day for me.

I still find it hilarious that Samsung, pre-iPhone 6, misread what Apple was doing with "curved glass" and thought they meant curved screen, and doubled down on this idea...and now they are stuck pretending like anyone ever wanted that.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they read about Apple's patents a few years ago about curved displays that would be used for things like notifications and virtual buttons... But yeah, not a great idea; at least the way Samsung implemented it. The downside of the curved display seriously outweigh the benefits... or what Samsung is trying to sell as a benefit.

I love competition... if it were not for Sammy, Apple would continue to milk it for the next 25 yrs.

If you think about it, Samsung and Apple are the only real major players. Samsung is ahead in terms of innovation and hardware, but Apple's ecosystem and software is one of their strongest selling points.

Apple needs to stray away from
16gb devices and realize even using Live Photo's will consume the majority of this memory and let's not forget software updates, which also take away space to. It's upsetting we are still offered 16GB memory in 2016. Finally, I believe Apple is offering 32 GB as an entry level. If Apple delivers something big in hardware sense, say 2017, with the Tenth anniversary iPhone. Then maybe they can recruit some Of their lost followers. But for now, it appears a lot of customers are not happy with Apple. Hopefully this changes.

Trust me. The new glitter of the Note 7 will wear off fast when you realize how limited you are functionality wise and how it won't sync with your current devices like Apple. You also will get pretty upset next year when your year old phone won't get the updates and new features your 3 year old iPhone gets.

You also have to keep in mind that Samsung does its best to try and copy Apple. Why would you jump ship with a copier that relies on someone else software when you get stick with the originator and true innovator? #AllPhonesDontMatter

Typical response of someone with no argument. Dismiss the other person as a hater to diminish what they say.

Having something that can be inserted wrong is a DESIGN FLAW. This is why countless devices in countless industries have things like keyways to prevent things from being used the wrong way (usually by accident). You can't throw out hundreds of years of engineering just because you won't admit Samsung made a mistake.

I'm still waiting for one of you Samsung fans to list off all those powerful Android Apps that run so well on an S7 but can't on an iPhone. How many times do I have to ask this before someone steps up to the plate? I've got my S7 and 6S Plus sitting here waiting to test them. And please list off all those powerful 64bit Android Apps that can utilize the S7 processor.

You don't need an Samsung fan, just need knowledge about what is offered on iOS v android .

So as an example

I've said it before. KODI .

I can run it off a phone, into a TV and configure it to be an amazing powerful app that runs my media ;) while on the go.

Fact of the matter, it's comes into its own when it runs off better hardware, hence why the nvidia shield destroys the Apple ATV 4 as a media streamer, and I have both .

Also , I can also drop by SD card into my dvd drive on my 2009 iMac, cause the reader is close to the drive itself on the side,
Design flaw or idiot users ? Do we need safety guards cause people do not use common sense?

Are Apple's newsworthy?
Well this is an Apple rumor site, isn't it? I'm not sure why the latest and greatest smartphone from OEM X deserves front page billing on an Apple rumor site. Maybe if it was something radically different but this isn't.

OMG totally agree, logos on the front of phones makes me cringe.

Plenty of companies do not know the subtlety of a logo.

They blast their logo in giant size with badly styled fonts on anything they do.

Many times that is a reason for me not to buy a product, besides quality issues.

Even on clothes, I usually cut out logos and tags (they itch).

I know: verified nutcase:)

True but meaningless to most. I'm most concerned about security updates and OS improvements which Android is not that good at.
Equally meaningless post. Your inner monologue failed to alert your fingers that none of your concern about security updates and OS improvements could be discerned by reading what you posted. Not that I disagree with your assessment, but nothing in your original post indicated either concern.

Can't believe all the Apple bashing over this phone. What's so special about it. After all we get all of that and more in.....just over a year!!!!!! Meanwhile we have new Emojis. How's that grave Steve...plenty of room to spin I hope!

I've made the mistake of installing the latest iOS on a 3 year old iPhone, never again, if I had the chance , I'd rollback to the version that came after the iOS version that came with the iPhone at the time of purchase, and I would have a very smooth experience.

Getting latest iOS updates that make your device lag and slow.....is worse than not getting updates , especially when there is no rollback.

yes extremely newsworthy especially since it has several features , gorilla glass, expandable memory , actual water resistance, that apple refuses to include
iPhones don't use gorilla glass? Since when? Also none of the other stuff is new. Expandable memory and water resistance existed before the Note 7. So did iris scanning.

The previous Note 5 is such a nice device and it kept me from upgrading to the 6 series because it made the 6 series come off so gigantic and old fashioned. The camera is also better than the current 6 series. If it wasn't for Android I would bought it instead of waiting out the 6 series.
Now this Note looks just as nice and the camera has been shown in tests to be better than the current 6 series.
It's just weird that Apple is releasing another clunky old fashioned honking 6 series this year while Samsung is busy moving forward.

I've decided to go the yearly plan on the iPhone because I like the little changes coming to the new one, but fear I'll kick myself when Apple is finally out of the dark ages and finally releases a modern smartphone next year.

Oh I'm not jumping ship, but the temptation is their. You are correct though, there is a lot of glitter on the Note 7. I'm like that Kid in the candy store and want to taste test everything! And I also love technology and want the best of both worlds. iPhone 7 will be a day one purchase by the way. See you their.

A) Because Samsung is Apple's biggest competitor.
B) Because a thread that just started today is already at page 8. By tomorrow, it might be at 20.

Haven't seen a good pen-input device in the last 10 years or so. By no one. IP 68 is nice though.

Played with the Note 7 at my job a few days ago. Pretty nifty device. The iris scanner thing worked pretty well. The gif maker was pretty cool. IMO it's a solid upgrade from the Note 5. Not really worth it, if you have the S7 and especially the S7 edge IMO.

I'm curious about the iris scanner. Unless my hand is wet from just coming out of the shower, the Touch ID works instantly and pretty much every time. Was there a way the iris scanner made unlocking the phone quicker and more convenient? I just can't see how it can be quicker and since I have to pick up my phone with my hand, the only other time I can't unlock it is if I'm wearing gloves. I just don't see how something can iris scan my eye quick enough and accurately enough for this to be a superior unlock process.

I will still purchase the iPhone 7 on day one, but the temptation is their for the Note 7. I'm a firm follower and believer in Apple, I just want them to deliver something special, where I don't question my faith in them.

Drop the amnesia , every major competitor to the iPhone has been announced on MR, not MR staff's fault your precious Apple is releasing no hardware .

We don't get front page articles every time someone releases a new smartphone. Clearly the only reason this is a front page story and not in the alternative to iOS forum is for clicks - to get a bunch of people posting how Apple doesn't innovate anymore, I'm switching to Android blah blah. Over at AI it's front page news for the opposite reason; to generate a bunch of snarky anti-Samsung/Android posts.

It's not *that* hard to go Android... you're talking a few hundred bucks. Pick up a used device and check it out.

You say you've been disappointed, but compared to what, exactly? Your expectations? Android updates have been even more lame. What exactly are Google and the OEMs doing that makes you think you're missing out on something? They were years behind on Touch ID and they're years behind on 3D Touch. Even basic things like device encryption is missing on most Android devices.

If many Google employees and employees of Android OEMs like me prefer iOS, that should tell you something.

But go ahead and try it out for yourself. Everyone is different, and it sounds like you just a want something different. I know a few people who switched from iPhone to Android... but I know a lot more people who switched from Android to iPhone.

No I am not. If the focus of this quote was OS updates or security updates, I would have responded in kind:
"Problem with Samsung is once they have sold you there phone it's only supported with major updates for at max 2 versions. Until they can get release out quicker and for longer there is no chance I'd go back" -vmistery
vmistery's subsequent reply explained his concern for security updates. Afaik, precognition exists only as plot device in fiction.

But since you brought it up directly, I will address that point directly. Security updates do not require an update to Android in the way that I think you mean it. It doesn't take a migration from M to N to get security updates. I know this because my S5 received several security updates on L before it was updated to M and at least 1 after.

The delay in getting the latest and greatest OS? There's no denying it needs improvement. If there was one mass distro and everyone got the same thing, hey that would be cool. Cool, not practical. iOS is static across the entire ecosystem. That makes for an easy update. Android is not static, far from it actually. The variety and variances in the different offshoots makes mass distro impractical. Some understand that. Bigger secret that's not so secret? Most don't care. Same with iOS. Ask the average person what version of iOS they're running and you'll most likely get a sideways look and a surreptitious reach for the pepper spray.;)

I wasn't thinking of N to M for security updates. I'm talking about the fact most security flaws in Android require the kernel to be updated. This requires the OEMs to download the source and make a new build. Google Play Services is supposed to handle this, but it can't update low-level stuff. Which is why we're still stuck waiting for OEMs and carriers for something as simple as a security update.

Even worse, while Google is trying to get OEMs to commit to updates within 30 days (already too long) you have Motorola backing out of this and claiming it's better to delay an update until it becomes "significant", rather than pushing one out every 30 days. Pathetic.

The average person won't KNOW what version of iOS they have, but they sure will BENEFIT from it. The problem with Android is developers coding for the lowest common denominator. You can't write an App that requires a fast processor when most phones don't come with one. And you can't take advantage of features only present in newer Android versions as this also limits your potential reach. The result are Apps that are "just good enough" instead of being "groundbreaking". An example of this is the scarcity of any 64bit Android Apps that can truly make use of the processor in a phone like the S7. What's the point of a 64bit processor without software to run on it?
