It's clear to see why Samsung wanted to announce theirs before Apple does next month. These boring announcements would be clamored even more if they had to compete with the iPhone announcement. Basically you get nothing new other than a phone that starts at $1000 for the lower-capacity 128GB version and comes with an outdated version of Android out of the box. That's really really sad.

I don't think most of the people posting in this thread know much about Samsung's products, and didn't even watch the keynote. They see a few headlines and conclude Samsung is just copying Apple when in fact nothing is farther from the truth. In the demo they showed a video playing on the external display while he was doing something completely different on the Note, so clearly its not screen mirroring. Beyond that, DEX is a really cool technology that truly lets a lot of people use their phone as a full function computer with mouse, keyboard, etc.. It used to require an adapter box which appears to now be integrated into the device. What wasn't clear is if supports keyboards and mice.

I think you are pushing it a bit as the average person will get no where near 6 years of usage on a phone. Just wear and tear and the battery aging will defeat that dream.
You should still be able to use the note with the old doc. I suppose you could stil pair a keyboard and mouse to the phone. You can still use a mouse with the tab S4 and that has DeX built in.

Features are meaningless as long as a device runs Android. It's nothing more than an OS for Data Miners. :apple:

Funny you should say that after reading this today....

There is no compromise if you want to use it, you must give up your data.

Based on the rumours there won’t be much changing with the iPhones this year either. Yes I’ll be getting the X plus because I want a bigger display but so far there hasn’t been any news of any ground breaking must have features.

Being an Apple focused site the bashing is to be expected.

I like the idea of using DEX with a mouse, and using the s pen as a remote.

Having 512 of storage with the ability to add another 512 is also a cool feature. Imagine Apple offering 1tb of storage in their phones. With their reputation of charging riduculous prices for memory and storage, id say add at least another $1000 to the price of the phone.

If I remember correctly Apple was also caught doing something similar a while back, their were called out on it. I am not sure if Apple still does this to a limited degree, however I would not be surprised. Apple mobile phones have location data coming in and going out for cell tower tracking, either this data is being used by the carrier, or to sell to others or hardware/software manufacturers are also using similar schemes as claimed to improve the user experience.

To reiterate ALL companies in the transmission of data for connectivity are harvesting user data. The level and extent is another story. Google allows you to track your movements online, some level of transparency.

Considering the Mac hardware line still ships with a base 128GB SSD on laptops, this company loves to penny pinch the end user.

Personally, I think prices of phones in general are getting a little out of hand.

Traffics, cost of raw materials, energy, labour, etc. These factor into the price and the trend is that all of them are inching upwards. Plus royalties and lawsuits.

Its list price is about the same as the Note 8 was when it came out, and these things are always discounted. Most will not pay $1000. Its running the currently available version of Android, and will certainly get the new version when its ready. I think you also misunderstand the meaning of the word "clamored". The fact that you think you get nothing new means you either didn't bother to watch the keynote, or you don't understand the Samsung products. The big honking picture of the S-Pen button seems to have missed your attention.

But I thought the bezels were fine until late 2017 with the super awesome oudated Apple brick also known as the iPhone 7? That design had a lot of praise by Apple apologists.
I still think my iPhone 7 Plus in Black is one of the best looking smartphones ever. Even in 2018. It's a great looking phone.

Is the Samsung Note 9 going to run MacOS when you plug it into a monitor? Or MS Windows? What OS will it run?

Samsung DeX is an extension of Android N's Multi-Window mode. Additional code development has also been included by Samsung that adds extras features and integrates it with Samsung hardware, such as the Iris scanner.

There are no proprietary Samsung APIs needed to launch apps in Samsung DeX. Apps typically run as long as they adhere to Androids best coding practices.

"Samsung says that with the Snapdragon 845, it has included "Water Carbon Cooling System" inside the phone for improved performance with processor intensive apps such as Fortnite."

iPhone X absolutely needs some sort of tech enhancement feature to "cool-down" the device when using processor-heavy games and apps. My X gets way too hot and laggy during these times. It's my biggest gripe with the $1k phone. Hopeful that iOS12 helps to calm this phone down a little.

With Google, you are the product. Android OS is spyware.

With many free social web services (FB, Insta, etc) the users are the product. Most see no problem either because their are not aware or don’t mind ignoring the fact or giving a little to receive something for free and to connect with family and friends. When these companies cross the line is when it becomes a problem, where that line is drawn is another story. Google search, AdSense also treat you the user as a product. Darn it you are on MR and you are fed ads, guess what you are receiving something for free (unless a paid member) which makes you the product by clicking on those ads you generate income/revenue for MR to operate to provide you a free forum to voice your opinion(s).

You are being a hypocrite if you claim otherwise. Remember Apple’s iAD. None of these companies are a White Knight to the consumer, Grey Knight for sure.

Don’t believe any company has figured out the method to defy the laws of physics and thermodynamics, even the MacBook Pro’s suffer similar problems.

Does this look like something you can do with your iPhone via screen mirroring?

The future folks, except it will also have the ability to do it wirelessly either while placed on a charging platform or while on your person.
