And Apple customers and others will still prefer iPhones.

Does Samsung think they'll get people to switch from iOS by matching the screen sizes?

As always, Apple leads and Samson follows from behind. Samsung we got you! Abracadabra. Abracadabra B. ABRACADABRA! ABRACADABRA!

To

too much could go wrong with greasy fingers, dust, smudges that could effect the finger being read, glad Apple decided to go Face ID route, besides rumors stated that Samsung is not even going the finger print under the screen path as well.

Yes, there is the potential to pose issues with accuracy rates with added screen protectors, ect. But the Real point of my post was I really would be interested to see and experience what it would be like if Apple had included a finger print reader under the display versus Face ID. As I already mentioned, I like Face ID, but I’m sure others would agree that they would rather have Touch ID embedded under the display versus the notch.

Aside from the Samsung and iPhone differences between the phones, consumers really choose which *ecosystem* they prefer, either iOS or android. But I think the main reason why iOS has a significant adoption rate because of the extended iOS support and security features.

And this is a surprise? Samsung is always watching the rumours as to what Apple may be doing. In some cases they rush to market with something to try and beat them but it doesn't always work out. Samsung should just do their own thing
Yes because they’ve never had large phones before. Samsung mega....

The notch never bothered me design wise. I see it as an essential part of the phone due to current technological constraints. Sure they could have blacked out the rest of the top of the phone, but I think that would have actually looked worse, and the spaces adjacent to the notch are not just dead space. On screen fingerprint would have been very cool but ultimately Face ID is the future of biometric phone security. And Kuo pointed out a while ago, Apple is a couple years ahead of everyone there.
Apparently google are going to have their we can throw AI and machine learning at it version this year. So maybe not 3 years ahead.

Better how? Samsung's FP sensor works great. It maybe placed in a dumb location, but it works great. I'm not sure how this got to be a "one better than the other discussion". I was just pointing out the fatal flaw in your earlier observation. To your credit you recognized it immediately.
Samsung’s FPS got better with time. Touch ID was great from the start. I used Samsung’s first iteration which was a swipe and then next on the S7 edge and both were rubbish and I turned it off. Too many misreads and getting locked out of the phone. It’s only been in the last 2 generations of phone (S8+ S9) that they’ve got it right and even then Touch ID is still better.

Same screen sizes Samsung have had in the past.

I would personally prefer one that works close to perfection then few mediocre. Face ID just like touch ID will only get better.
The ones on the S9 are good, intelligent scan and the FPS are good enough.

Yep, bezeless, large oled displays. Clearly copying Apple here because they’ve never had anything like this before the iPhone X.

While I can appreciate the retrospective, I'm going to disagree with it's conclusion. Both Apple and Samsung's tech improved over time. I also used the version on the S5, S7, and S8. Rarely had misreads -even while sliding my finger- and I've never gotten locked out of a phone; neither Android nor iOS. So our anecdotal evidence differs. As does our opinions. Who cares? My post was never about one being better than the other.

Good they are trying to use FP scanner under the display..that said nobody is choosing one ecosystem over the other for this reason alone

I agree that Touch ID got better with time too but couldn’t use the FPS on the S5 or S7 edge. But what Samsung have now is good.

I think the thing that people overlook about the under screen fingerprint sensor is that there's no way the first few iterations will work as well as TouchID, or probably even FaceID. It'll be clumsy, it'll take longer, you'll have to figure out where to put your finger, etc.

I can understand wanting the current version of TouchID over FaceID, but I don't care about the under screen version of TouchID at this point.

Samsung is losing to the Chinese in their low to mid range so they really need to make sure their flagship has everything by throwing all features they can think of so people spending a lot of money on them would think they’re getting their money’s worth.

But I applaude Samsung for not falling into the notch fad. Gotta give them prop for that.

You like less screen space? The notch adds screen space, it does not take it away.

Of course I like more screen, but .. hmmm .. (1) they're not using the ears effectively, .. status icons could be even further up. (2) I rather have symetry ..yes ... keep it as small as the simetric bezels can get (samsung way) until de side bezels width is enough to have it at the top too and at the same time contain all the componentes (as if components could fit in the low bottom bezel of actual iPhone X<- that's what I mean with "until" that bezel thickness (which is a natural thickness to always maintain to rest fingers withouth covering screen [that's why I don't like SEdge]) can be done.

If Samsung sold a pure Android Galaxy, I'd be on it like white on rice!
They did in the past as a Google Play edition and the Galaxy Nexus. But Samsung wants their own signature and brand on their devices (dubbed Samsung Experience) so they can control what they want their customers to get instead of relying on Google (who didn’t really have a good track record in terms of consistency in the past).
