Awesome. I always wanted the ability to run two Fisher Price Android Apps side-by-side.
Another one. Do you run on your iPhone Fisher Price apps? That's your problem. I see split screen as a powerful feature perfectly suitable for large iPhone XR/XS Max screens.

Totally amazing. Remember how "short-sighted" and "evil" Apple was for doing this... now it's a good idea? Thanks for the validation, Samsung.

The difference is Samsung will bundle the adaptor in the box rather than force users to buy it separately like Apple now do.

Apple bundled the adapter with the iPhone for a couple of years... don't see an issue here.

So many jokes here about Samsung removing headphone jack, yet Galaxy can do what iPhone still can’t: split screen for 2 apps side-by-side.

Meh. Seriously don't see the need. Even then, it does nothing to offset Sammy's flip-flop on the headphone jack issue. But it was a decent attempt at deflecting.

Dongle leak? Sounds explicit.

My grandpa had that... had to wear Depends.

I think the industry disagrees with you. High fidelity is provided by Apple via AAC from its Music store, and Spotify delivers their version of high quality. Qualcomm provides aptx and aptx HD. All high end compressed formats today are better than CD quality. There are uncompressed formats available, but you have to claim to have uber hearing to even want to use those. (not having uber hearing myself, I am simply skeptical that people can actual discern a difference, those who claim uber hearing, well maybe they actually can)

No sarcasm here: I hear what you're saying but I do respectfully disagree with you. I would not call a compressed format high quality. It's better than a few decades ago, sure, but it's not fantastic. I can hear the difference between compressed and uncompressed formats.

My comment was that Bluetooth audio quality is not the same as a set of quality, wired headphones; further to that, the reduction in quality from consumers using Bluetooth versus wired is moot because even with wired headphones consumers were listening to music in a compressed format and mostly didn't care. (There are audiophiles who want lossless music with high-quality headphones, but these don't represent the majority.)

Most people probably listen to music in their car, while at a coffee shop, exercising, etc. These environments are not well suited to listening to lossless music because there's too much ambient noise. So the whole point of having wired headphones on a phone for the purpose of quality is meaningless.

I mean, most of us knew that as soon as Apple removed the headphone jack, it’s days were numbered for Samsung’s phones as well, despite the mocking.

And I’m not even saying “lul Samesung copycat”. It’s just that Apple proved that the removal of the jack wasn’t the death of the iPhone and that people would in fact survive without it. Samsung played it safe and is ready for the transition as well.

Even with the people making blood oaths that they’ll never buy a smartphone without the jack, it’s pretty much been proven that the vast majority of people will eventually move on.

The headphone dongle continues to be the bane of my existence. They break, I lose them, they fall apart, the connector gets loose and they fall out causing me to lose connection. The USB-C connector is a lot worse than the headphone connector it is seeking to replace and it creates a horrible experience. Unfortunately this is an industry problem now not just an Apple problem with no relief in sight. Apple please restore the headphone jack on the iPhone 11!

I don’t run Fisher Price Apps because I’m not using Android.

Powerful feature? Name some things you do that make this such a must have feature on a phone (on a tablet it makes a lot of sense).

There is certainly a profound trend; if they mock, they eventually copy.
Hmmm guess that comment could flick straight back to Steve Jobs who mocked Android devices saying who needs a bigger screen than 4.8in iPhone.
Well Apple certainly followed the rest of the World eventually with bigger screens **

Yeah... Plus most are already listening to compressed music anyway, even with wired headphones, so it's not like high fidelity sound is all that important to the general consumer.

Right, and how many consumers actually even know what superior sound is? They just want whatever is convenient and they purchased is usually what is advertised. There is still plenty devices for those who use the 3.5 mm Jack, but I have not encountered anyone outside this tech site that’s upset that it’s deleted either.

Don't worry, you're not alone. The Note isn't flying off the shelves - it's always been a niche product. Now even more so.

The Note is a fantastic product, I still will be receiving one and am happy to have it in rotation but just like the iPhones since ditching the headphone jack I don't see a reason to invest my money into it personally. The last iPhone I have bought myself was my white XR purely out of appeal for them doing colors again, but before that I stopped at the 6S. Granted the use case is vastly different since wireless charging came on board so being able to use my remotes and audio cables are more usable again.

Just use the dongle if it’s a case of life or death. Why are people so reluctant to use an adaptor do plug in a cable?

Just extra things I would need to make sure I have at all times. I would need to purchase about 14-20 dongles to fulfill my ever changing environment comfortably as I have had to do with the iPhone.

Miserable attempt at expressing thoughts. What flip-flop? Deflecting what?

Sammy flip-flopped on the removal of the headset jack... was horrible when Apple did it... now it's a good move (for them).

The deflection was when you tried to switch the subject away from Sammy's flip-flop to the whole, pointless (IMO) side-by-side app thing. You probably missed it because you made such a lame attempt at diverting the conversation.

I’m not using Android either, so what’s the problem?

On large iPhones it makes same sense as on iPad.
Taking notes while you read or watch, opening incoming message in a chat while watching a video, comparing two products in online store, having a map opened alongside any app: browser, chat, notepad, music player; keep web surfing while watching YouTube in background, use calculator while making purchases or using notes, edit same picture in two windows and compare changes side by side and pick better result. You can do anything.

There’s a nice big reply at the start of the thread explaining why it makes sense to drop headphones jack now (Bluetooth headphones are cheap and widely available).

I tried to switch subject? What’s the reason for that? I pointed out how stupid this lame mocking looks.

About pointless side-by-side app thing tell it to Tim Cook, he doesn’t think so. iPad has it and it’s a great feature.

Dongles are bad though, mkay? No one let Apple off the hook because the first iPhone 7 shipped with a dongle. Ergo - Chastising Samsung and shaming them is perfectly acceptable.

And the relevance to the topic at hand is?

At least it’ll have USB-C, instead of useless Lightning.
Please explain why lightning is useless. It has the same use that USB-C has, it’s just a different cable.

Have you seen the S10 Note renders its way too skinny to have a headphone jack. Read it and weep apple fan boys. We all use Blutooth anyway.
Sounds like Samsung is over obsessive about being thin and light. I bet its so thin it will bend. Or fold; In a bad way. How about adding a mm or two for extra battery -and- the headphone jack.

The jack was removed from the 7, not X. Its purpose is to make us transition to wireless accessories.
So then is Samsungs motive here the same? They’ve got GalaxyBuds to sell. I mean, they could offer Note users the -choice- instead. They’re just greedy.

This isn't about the ubiquity of bluetooth or that there are cheap BT headsets. It’s about choice and the inconsequential cost of including a headphone jack. It’s greed and profit and just evil. No other reason.
