Well, if the Note looks like the next iPhone, it supposedly won't be released until November or January.

The next iPhone is due in October which means first to hit the streets wins?

I'd say the first one to actually be displayed in public wins.

Then Samsung has won by quite a bit.

They've been selling like crazy in the UK and other markets. I got mine during a business trip abroad and have been using it on AT&T for over a month, the same network I have my iPhone 4 on. The excellent call quality and noise cancellation system that Samsungs created is just terrific. Even more impressive is the Super AMOLED Plus display.

They have already been announced here in the US, and it will be on sale in just six more days. Three carriers will get it initially with a total of four scheduled. Samsung has really raised the bar. I never thought I'd like Android this much.

Edit: I stand corrected I overlooked the thread title is Note, not Galaxy S II, which is what I have.

I would say when the new iPhone debuts, the publicity and hype will be most deafening.

The Note coming out after the new iPhone will probably have little impact on the horde of buying masses especially after contract lock in.

With that said, I like the large screen size of the Note. Something I wish Apple offered but highly doubtful. If Ice Cream Sandwich eliminates the lag, I will consider giving it a test drive.

Are you kidding me? This is a clown phone, who is going to carry around that monstrosity? Yeah I bet this is an iPhone 5 killer, because if you put it on top of an iPhone 5, the iPhone would be crushed due to the Galaxy's massive size.

YEs but the new iphone will still be behind MOST of the other phones that are out there.. If you look at the phones and OS of other companies they are pretty far ahead of IOS and apple is falling further behind..

After reading todays rumors (apple insider) that the iPhone 5 will probably come with still 512MB, plus considering that iOS has no real multitasking, Im looking more than ever to the Note to be my next phone.

Maybe it will also replace my iPad. Who knows... If not, I have no doubt that I will buy a windows 8 tablet. IOS is losing me quite fast.

I for one wouldn't jump ship under any foreseeable future development [...] You might think that this must make me a blind Apple fan-boy sheep

We might think that? How could anyone not think that?

If you want to use an iPhone, nobody is suggesting you shouldn't. I don't know why you feel you have to be hostile ("let me hold the door open for you on the way out", "good riddance") to people who might make a different choice to you.

Anyhoo, back on-topic. The appeal of the Galaxy Note to me, like many, is the larger screen. I've used iPhone 4s before and I was playing with one just the other day, and I just found the screen too small. Sure, it's okay for browsing, but I can't imagine it'd be pleasant to read anything of length on it. There's not much difference between iOS and Android in terms of software functionality as far as I can see so I don't really understand the die-hard loyalty to iOS.

The loyalty is not to iOS. It used to be to a person (Stev Jobs) and a company (Apple). Now it's just Apple. If Apple switched to Android tomorrow, all iFans would do the same in a heartbeat.

What's with all these giant-*ss phones manufacturers are making? Anything above 4.3 strikes me as just unnecessary.

That's never been the case for me. I'm actually a PC guy. But WM6 blew chunks compared to iOS so I bought an iPhone. I'm now heavily invested in iOS so that's where my loyalty is.

I want this phone. I even study how the Dell Streak is held with one hand. I test other phones with 4.3-inch screens and realize I can tolerate them.

But I got a Nexus One for cheap today, and might switch my allegiance to HTC. It is my first Android phone and I am in love with it. Remember, this is a Jan 2010 phone from nearly two years ago. The phone was bought second-hand and probably is a 8/10 condition. But it doesn't matter, this first Google phone feels like that first iPhone. Both first gens were great phones only to get overlooked because they aren't new anymore and the latest becomes the greatest. But feel both in the hand, and both the original iPhone and Nexus One feel rock solid in the hand. I just love that HTC doesn't skimp out. Samsung can make the most powerful phones only to make them feel like cheap Happy Meal toys.

HTC Sensation XE or XL might be my next phone. Two words why - Beats Audio. And here I thought Android would be full of lag. Not from my experience at all and I know how to manage and simplify it from my iPhone experience. My N1 is unlocked, 2.3 Gingerbread, and rooted. Android is a very decent OS. Not garbage like some others think it is. Many Android phones get generalized to be exactly the same way. And the app market does have most of the essentials I need. Looking forward to Ice Cream Sandwich. HTC is pretty awesome. I can see why they have the 2nd highest retention and customer satisfaction rating. Even before iPhone came along, HTC were making some of the best smartphones around with their WinMo phones.

Wow, I have been researching this phone for weeks now & I am saddened it will probably not hit the US. I love my iPhone 4 to death, but was thinking of getting a tablet. My choices have been narrowed down to the Galaxy Note or iPad 2.....just still can not decide.
