Still a good laptop, if it has the HDD then look into swapping out for an ssd and watch those hinges!

They already broke. I took it to an Apple store about 16 months ago and they sent it off for repairs. When they gave it back they said it would normally cost $220 but for whatever reason (I think it's because they're nice - or it was defected or something) they charged me nothing and said the new hinges shouldn't break.

I forget whether it's HDD or SSD, but that doesn't seem to be the bottleneck to me so much as the 2 GB of RAM.

Who cares about bench marks. They gave a 4 core CPU well of course its gonna be twice as fast. But hows the GPU when playing games and having to power that 1080p screen?

Loading software on devices can wait until the very last minute - and often does. They have time.

I agree with you on that but if they follow good practice, what you saw at the keynote is a baseline of the final software. You're not going to mess around something as complex as the OS without the fear of breaking something in the process.

Remember, they have to ship something stable at launch due to the OS upgrade process not as tight in say with iOS. The carriers control Android upgrades.

At least try to inform you before saying others don't know what are they talking. If not, you will look like you're looking right now.

The ****ing Exynos is a SoC with TWO ****ing processors connected.

From the introduction:

In the first big.LITTLE system from ARM a ‘big’ ARM® Cortex™-A15 processor is paired with a ‘LITTLE’ Cortex™-A7 processor to create a system that can accomplish both high intensity and low intensity tasks in the most energy efficient manner

Just after that:

The Processors
The central tenet of big.LITTLE is that the processors[/] are architecturally identical. Both Cortex-A15 and Cortex-A7 implement the full ARM v7A architecture including Virtualization and Large Physical Address Extensions. Accordingly all instructions will execute in an architecturally consistent way on both CortexA15 and Cortex-A7, albeit with different performances.

And so how does this say there isn't 8 cores in the Exynos 5 Octa?
It doesn't.

In a Exynos 5 Octa, there's 4 A15 cores and there's 4 A7 cores.

4+4=8.

It matters little that the L2s may be shared amongst only identical cores.
There's still 8 cores.

Yes and they have patents on mini internal combustion engines to run it.

----------

Bad analogy: Why? Because Samsung's get adequate battery life. If I use my iphone with apps, guess what? It is dead within three hours if I'm lucky. I'd rather an 8-core and a bigger battery than thinness. I don't need thinness. Thinness, in fact, doesn't improve my user experience in using software.

So just like YOU don't need an 8-core, I don't need a thinner phone, k thx bye.

Don't recall saying anything about thinness...

As I recall, the original statement I was responding to was saying something about Apple having no excuse not to issue an 8-core phone...

For myself, my 4S gets about 5 hours hard use per day and the rest is standby. The only time I've ever run out is if I forgot to plug it in the night before. Even then, I've managed to make it go 2 days on occasion.

Nobody gives a sh+t about samesung, can we just move on and leave this copycat company alone. They will be just fine, eventually they'll copy HTC design or something and throw in some more useless stuff that no one will ever use for real...add more cores, yet still with laggy exp... And will call it SGS 4 Ace or something,.. Later They'll announce sales in millions then forget to admit that these are still in shleves not actualy sold...yawn!
Maybe shoot some stupid Commercials bashing Apple or Windows Phone...

Boooring already.

Since more people have samsung phones than iphones, id say alot of people actually gives a ****. Oh and samesung, thats really original and cool, can I use that one next time? Grow up. Isnt it past your bedtime? It is a school night.

Haha nice try, I wish I could return to my school days, those were the days ...damn, it´s ten years ago... But I can tell my boss, I'm going back to school :-D

SGS4 is definitely samesung as SGS3 :))

I guess you've never ventured outside of what Samsung provided. I can't stand apple keyboard because it feels like a dumb featurephone keyboard compared to something like swiftkey or swype.

S4 comes with swiftkey built-in (so does the Note 2, for that matter).

And the keyboard still sucks. The keyboard on my work SIII is one of the main reasons I don't give up my iPhone for personal use. What good is a benchmark if the words I type never show up correctly? I can erase the letters and retype faster??

Lol wth you think apple has been doing from the 3G to all the way to now ??? Minor upgrades some good some bad but only changing the design every 2 devices and saying that the s3 and s4 is the same I don't think so maybe looks the same but not the same in the software not even close to the same iOS is the same experience across all platforms and every device it's same unless u jailbreak

I've spent enough time with an Android phone to know it's pathetic.

Yes, that's what I implied.

You wouldn't have the platform if it wasn't for Apple. Not to call anyone on here this, but most Android users I know tend to be fairly dim.

I could not agree with you more - on the Android part that is. As far as Android users go, can't say I agree with you. I have met some iPhone users that also "tend to be fairly dim." :apple:

What?!?! The note 2 lasted me about 2 days on a single charge depending on how I used it and my s3 lasted me all day. My iPhone 5 at one point didn't last me a full day I have to charge it by noon sometimes and then after I restored it got better battery life but I am still on the charger by 5pm depending on the days use. Idk why apple fanboys can't take Criticism. There's flaws in iOS just admit it and the other day I asked Siri where's the nearest verizon store and it gave me a location 51 miles from and it wasn't even the right place. Android is not poorly writing look at a s3 or Htc one x+ or a note 2 with pure android and I can bet that you will have a different opinion. Stock android 4.2.2 jellybean on the s3 note 2 and others are smoother then iOS and way more snappier and speedy

Then you're about the only one. I have an iphone 5, I ALWAYS get at least 2 full days, sometimes even 3 full days on one charge. My boss bought the Galaxy S3. He can't even make it through one work day without having to swap in a replaceable battery. He had to buy two spare batteries and a drop in charger for them on eBay the battery life is so terrible. He's been back to Verizon for customer support multiple times. They've tried everything, from factory resets to adjusting settings. Nothing matters, it's a battery hog plain and simple.

you think you funny ifanboyz

LOL this made me laugh. the comment that the isheep were putting on this site were "iphone 5 is 7 month old and galaxy s4 is new! so s4 must be faster!" to be exact iphone 5 is only been 4month old!

Its funny how isheepsaid exactly same about this when isheep were testing s3 to iphone 5 on youtube and watevers and said "iphone 5 was faster than s3!" no captainfantastic Einstein!!! s3 came out in may-june of 2012 and iphone 5 in september 2012 obvious they needed to make it faster, but last year the s3 quad core benchmark and iphone 5 benchmark was nearly same. Which tells you that if apple doesnt bump anything up to impress the ppl waiting like myself they are gonna lose alot of ppl to other companies. :)

So, your argument is so weak that you have to resort to insulting not the platform, not the OEMs who make handsets, not the carriers who offer contracts on them, but the USERS of said platform?

I am not an Android fan by any stretch, but you've gone way too far here, and I'm sure the mods will take appropriate action.

I just wanted everyone reading this to know that not all iPhone/Apple appreciators are like this guy.
No, you lost the argument, you just didn't notice.

I never insulted anyone, I just stated my own observations. Can't help stuff I see. It's reassuring the moderators appear to have understood that.

It's just a shame some people don't get along. I state my opinions and then they get warped into something they aren't. I'd expect that on an Android forum.

How is this NOT an insult to the intelligence of Android users?

"most Android users I know tend to be fairly dim."

Just in case you forgot, it was you who said that. How do you expect to get along with people who have different views than you do if you can't keep yourself from calling them "fairly dim"?

Please, if I'm misrepresenting your words, please correct me with examples.

I'll wait.

I bet a jailbroken iPhone 5 with "fakeclockup" installed and set at 1.6x could still smoke the S4 in terms of app switching, animations and general usage.

Apple should just apply that tweak in stock iOS 7 to show how fast it really can be. Why they artificially limit the phone' speed with slow animations is beyond me.

I can almost hear the collective cry of "Wah Wah!!! specs and benchmarks are meaningless!!"

If the next iPhone comes out with higher specs and benchmarks watch this change in an instant.

Well yeah... If an iPhone 5 can trump a phone with better benchmarks in terms of smoothness, just imagine what a better speced iPhone can do.:D

LOL people make me laugh Especially the hard core apple fan boys. I have owned the gs3 and the note 2 and there performance on day to day use was amazing I had no issues. Now I currently have another iPhone 5 and don't get me wrong I am not bias I love all os's and technology but guys its time to put the big pants on and admit it that Samsung and Htc are putting out amazing phones and android is on pair with iOS now in the smoothness department, and to the people that say iOS is perfect and don't lag BS my Facebook app locks up and freezes on pictures n it crashes on the daily "after a restore too" and get a decent amount of lag when I am texting to fast and get a notification so simple things like that I don't have on android and yes I am getting a GS4 and a GS4 with cyanogen mod or aokp I can bet my iPhone 5 that it would be quicker then anything apple puts out. Apple fan boys its time to face the facts and realize that android is pushing hard and moving the ball forward. Great example is the gs3 it came out with ics which was the smoothest android ever been and was the game changer of 2012 N knocked apple off its high point and btw battery life on the note 2 destroys the iPhone 5 note 2 is a quad core phone with a 5.5 inch display so I am pretty sure the s4 will hold its own weight

More punctuation please. Your post is unreadable... Not that I'd want to read all that drivel anyway, but just saying.

What exactly do you mean? I assume that Geekbench measured the four 'big' cores, which score "nearly twice as much" as two A6 cores, and little more than double the GS3 (supposedly in it's 1.5GHz dal-core Krait incarnation).
Which means Samsungs cores are just the same as last years, just at the double amount, with four smaller cores added to save battery.

The 'big' cores themselves didn't improve much performance-wise.

On a completely unrelated note, have developers figured out already what you can do with the performance of a mid-2010 2.4GHz Mac Mini in your pocket?

i would HOPE it has better features... hardware to spec ratio... iPhone 5 is still the best.
