Samsung has always been ahead of Apple

Actually, Android is a copy of the iPhone. It was originally a copy of the Blackberry OS but they had to pivot and copy Apple to win out the future. And win they have in sales numbers and penetration. But AAPL has won the money thanks to anticompetitive practices.
I remember back when people were mocking Apple’s walled garden and claiming that they were doomed because of it. How the tables have turned after just a decade.

No, AAPL has not won the money “thanks to anticompetitive practices”. They’ve won because they’ve shown a large and profitable subset consumers are willing to pay for good design and tight integration.

Uh AI? Apple crapped itself there.
AI is crap everywhere! I can't think of one AI feature I care about at all? I have a s24U by the way and no Apple phone.

I also think that Apple's approach to AI is better in the sense of privacy and not just releasing garbage software but waiting until features are ready and actually work.

With the exception of Pixel phones most AI is a joke. Pixel phones are the only ones to deliver AI that is actually useful but still a bunch of useless features. Tried making a GAI wallpaper and they all suck. Removing objects is cool but it never is really seamless if you look at details.

I do agree Apple overhyped and underdelivered AI features but Apple always does that for everything they do??

There are interesting thoughts in all the comments and any more seem almost overkill. However, I have just had to purchase my first Android tablet after using the Apple ecosystem since 1984. I needed a hardened tablet to use as a navigation devise on my motorcycle for long distance rides that was capable of using GPX files. An iPad would have been ideal but is not hardened enough and the off-road nav App's don't exist. Having said that, I have been using my iPhone for years without a problem. I ended up with a DMD2 8 inch tablet running Android 14. The tablet and Nav features are great, but I find the Android systems to be very inconsistent when compared to Apple's OS. It is a very random operating system and less user-friendly than iOS. In some ways I think that one of the reasons Apple is behind in terms of thew development market is the Universities teaching programming are captured by the free for all of the MS and by extension, Android Philosophy. Apple requires more discipline to develop software and also presents more discipline to the user in operating style.

This makes apple sometimes appear to be behind, when in fact it is ahead in what it presents.

I think this used to be true, but not so much anymore. On Android, the initial setup can feel a bit more jarring, especially on a Samsung device because there are many more options. But once you get all setup,I would argue that an Android is easier to use and more consistent and iOS, which has become a clumsy mess and is in major need of an overhaul.

[…]

Apple is this way because their blind loyalist client base aren't as critical as the client base for Android OEMs. Android users will drop an OEM as soon as they feel they're getting ripped off. There's more choice.

Apple Intelligence is late, but it's because they did it right. Sure. Absolute joke. Lol

Nothing like insulting an unspecified number of Apple customers. (Which number into the billions)

But yeah pick whichever is best for you.

Apple certainly messed up the role out badly and it’s still not here but I can see the long term plan for al being very good certainly when so much will be on device. The fact they will be using their own, chatGPT and Gemini soon should make their al worth using soon enough it’s just going to take a year to get there.

That said so much of the al isn’t that useful. I like the odd al feature on my s25 ultra but nothing is really groundbreaking. Only useful thing is the eraser for photos which is next level.

So while I get that people say apple are years behind but they could certainly change that if they are going to use Gemini as well as their own.

How do you enjoy your Ultra 25? I have considered buying it. In Thailand and I missed the first week preorders that get the 512GB for price of 256GB. I wish I had bought it then because it’s now almost $200 more. I would love to switch to an Ultra, but I do wish my AirPods worked better with it. I also wish there was a good way to AirDrop to a Mac or iPad without having to have the iPhone.

Yep only up to Bht3000 and a free case at the moment in Thailand

I have parallels on my Macbooks and phone link is far better with more features than airdrop

What MacBook are you running Parallels on? I have an MBP 16” M4 with 48GB of RAM, and I love the Mac itself. I guess I would run Windows if I could run it via Parallels on M-series SoCs? Is that a thing now? Does it work well? I have a 15PM, and I bought two variations of 16 Pros but didn’t find the upgrade worthy. First time ever. It didn’t help that again no SIM card tray. Although, it’s starting to get easier to use remotely, but traveling through some developing countries eSIM is still not available or extremely difficult to get. Like have to take a Passport to the carrier’s main office. Whereas in Vietnam, for about $10USD, I bought a SIM card and got 5G speeds, unlimited calls and texts for 60 days. I brought an Android phone with me for it. Made me think I should just switch for good. I do like the ease of use of the ecosystem, but I hate the monopoly for which it stands.

Is Samsung even in S&P 500 ?

I think that alone shows who's "ahead" and who's "behind".

I have a 16"M2 and a 14"M3, your M4 will have no issues

Yep Esim is a pain especially out of country and although True in Thailand often surprise me how simple some things are other times its a brick wall, same for Malaysia esim was only available on post paid

The Samsung chat translation AI in Line app is a game changer for me and other friends in Thailand have swapped from Iphones because of this :)

Certainly a great phone. Very smooth and good UI with some nice upgrades from one UI 7

Al features are nice to have more than must have
