Most phones the size of the 6+ don't bend. This what happens when Apple favors profit margins using cheap materials and cheap engineering.

Yeah? any phone with full aluminum like 6+ out there? People should know thin aluminum will bend. You don't like it, wait for the next 6C or 6+C...yeah, won't bend but look like toys. I believe plastic is cheaper than aluminum...and cheaper engineering on plastic than metal...you need to get that fact straight.

Common sense. No engineer talented enough to get hired by Apple would overlook such a rookie design mistake.

Apple is a fashion company now, and its priorities are thininess and style. Why would you assume that it is a mistake? They designed the phone like this on purpose, as durability is not their design goal.

Well have they EVER said to carry ANY phone in your pocket?

Why would they have to? The vast majority of people have been keeping mobile phones in their pockets for a couple decades now. Seriously, nobody is supposed to put ANY phone in their pocket until Apple gives us all permission?

I would not "expect" that I could carry a tablet/netbook in my pocket and it not be damaged.

It's not a tablet or netbook. It's a phone, and yes, everyone with any common sense expects that it should be fine in a pocket.

Also, the 9 reported incidents out of 10 million that this happened to, do not state how they broke their iphones. I purposefully started keeping mine in my front pocket, sitting, etc and it has not yet bent. I figure apple will replace it if I'm case #10.

I even put jeans on to really test the damn thing.. So far, not even a mm of bending.

Good, that's what I'd hoped to hear. I guess it's time to bow down to my master and order a 6+.

It's the camera and that glorious screen that hooked me. Once seen, the 6+ display can never be unseen.

Uhhhh, they made it a thin and rectangular shape that perfectly fits a pocket?

Where do you carry your phone? In a purse or fanny pack? Clenched between your cheeks?

No it doesn't. Otherwise, explain to me why my 6 Plus is not bent. I keep it in the front pocket of my tight jeans quite a lot. Perfectly unbent - unless of course, Apple has me so brainwashed that I can't see the bend.

It's easy. Any reasonable person understands there are variables involved in a phone bending. Build of the person, extent of time phone is in compromising position, randomness of build quality, etc. Most importantly one person's anecdote can't be extrapolated to encompass the entirety of the issue. I seriously doubt Apple has you brainwashed, but your reliance on anecdotal evidence as proof of anything is probably not the best route to take.

HTC One M8. Superior engineering. Doesn't bend. YOU need to get YOUR facts straight.

To further your point, see Beats by Dre. Inferior poor headphones bought only for fashion appeal and peacocking.

Now let's say it's made totally unbendable. You put the phone into your front pocket and get into your car. Unfortunately, you have an accident. That unbendable phone in your front pocket isn't going to do your body any good.

Ha. In that same accident a bag of marshmallows flies out of your grocery bag and you suffocate from being pinned against it. Marshmallows are bendable. Should we start mallowgate now? I only say this to point out the absurdity of using edge case examples to prove a point. A pen in your pocket during an accident could be just as dangerous. ;)

Here's the problem - people think they can use and treat their new 5.5" 6+ the same as they did their 4" 5 or 5S.

A phone the size of the 6+ is different - hence the "phablet" category. Use cases change - one needs to accept this before purchasing the device.

Just as you can't expect to easily use the device one-handed, you have to know that it won't fit in your pocket quite the same way.

Personally, I have rather deep pockets in the slacks I normally wear to work. I'm not afraid of my 6+ bending (I use a leather Apple case), but it isn't all that comfortable for me to sit with it in my pocket. So I place it on my desk.

When I'm simply walking around, it's been fine in my pocket.....no bending.

The idea that it bends simply by being in people's pockets is ludicrous.

Obviously a thin slab of aluminum will bend under certain circumstances....be smart enough to realize its a different device and treat it accordingly.

Or buy another type of device made out of different materials.

A lot of polycarbonates are actually more expensive than aluminum. The 'plastic' used in phones is of course not the same type as is being used in disposable cutlery or cheap toys.

Aluminum on the other hand is used in the manufacturing of millions of soda cans every hour every day all year round all over the world. Expensive material? Of course not. It looks nice, but from a pure material point of view there is nothing rare or exclusive about it - it is very very common and used everywhere - just like plastics. The average amount of aluminum used in a car these days would easily be enough to make more than 1000 iPhones.

It might cost a bit more to process aluminium into a phone than plastics though since the latter easily can be moulded and aluminium will need a more complicated process.

Samsung's plastic is dirt cheap. I'm a chemical engineer. I used to make it.

Not the same thing. Totally different. Polycarbonate, by the way, is extruded into water bottles and various other cheap plastic products.

Also, funny side note, prior to the Hall-Héroult process, Aluminum was super rare and was considered as valuable as silver.

"superior engineering" with second rate Android bloatware. Compromises all around!

Beats are a premium price, and probably not the best headphones in their range, but don't pretend they're poor. They're still great headphones.

This was expected... this is going to be a hard time to be a Apple fan.

But seriously though, how hard is it to take out your iPhone when you sit down. The phone only bends if you are sitting for long periods. Sitting down with a iPhone 6 Plus is uncomfortable if anything. Who drives with an iPhone in there pocket for long distances, just take it out and put it somewhere in the car.

I drive with an iPhone in my pocket all the time. It's there most of the time.

I wouldn't put a 6+ in my pocket, that's why I opted for the 6. 6+ is too big for how I use my phone.

Do people make accounts here just to bash Apple? Pathetic.

It's usually a sign that this is the place to be where everyone in the know hangs out and posts.

I see this same thing with one cable news site that gets all of the action and the people who you would think would be at another news site posting all come over and **** the place up with there comments and bashing.

This is not about a design problem with iphone 6+
At least for those who can be considered sane consumers !
It is about the competition .. Specially samscum spreading fud .

They are scared of the immensely positive response and best in class durability tests of the the two new iphone 6 models !

We're living in a world where self absorption reigns supreme therefore the lack of awareness and common sense greatly diminished. It is far too much to ask someone to stop and think a take responsibility for their act of foolishness. They'd rather not be held accountable but quickly point the finger elsewhere.

A knucklehead puts a massive phone in their trouser suit pocket and not recognise the potential force generated of a thigh or butt taking up the remaining space in said garment when seated. This results in the material pressing against the device. It's either the trouser begins to rip or the device bends from the pressure being created by the tightened material, the latter more likely when wearing jeans or fitted khakis.

My initial thoughts:

Samsung will make a bendy phone next year.

Blackberry will be receiving back a lot of broken phones following the "bend it challenge".
