I don't understand this spaghetti wall argument everyone here is throwing around. So what if Samsung abandons the tablet market tomorrow? Android is still there. You still have your tablet. It will work until you are ready to update. The only change is that you won't get to enjoy the next iteration in their product line. No real loss. Certainly no evil repercussions for customers.

I don't think you understand how Android works, Google can release update after update to Android but it is up to both the manufacturer and the carrier (for 3G models) to make it available for each of their models so with Samsung releasing so many models (and I'm talking from personal experience here) they are often slow to release updates or even critical fixes, the problems with the Samsung Galaxy S on AT&T for obe example were just ridiculous, there is no way Apple would ever let that happen to one of their iPhones for that long.

Sure hackers can compile the latest versions of Android once Google releases the source for various handsets but that is often by using older proprietary binary drivers so it isn't the ideal experience.

actually, i do understand how it works, and i totally agree with your assessment :)

as long as neither the manufacturers nor google commit to keeping the products updated in a timely manner the platform doesn't interest me. and, i wouldn't mind some backwards compatibility while they're at it. lol. think it will happen?

how can you say the price is too high? there is no announced price.

fwiw, the screen is gorgeous...196ppi (compared to the ipad 132ppi).

psh easy, its a fanboy/fangirl talking. if it doesn't have an apple logo it counts it as a blah product even before they know anything about it:p

Apple should be worried about Samsung. The Galaxy S2 has sold millions and they've shown they are in this for the long term unlike RIM and HP.

As for different screen sizes, why is Apple the only one who can dictate the "correct size" for everyone. As this market matures, not unlike PCs, cars, TVs, etc. choice is important since everyone has different needs. This is how PCs beat the Mac in the 90s and Samsung is following the same playbook.

Apple will always be the most profitable manufacturer but may not always have the largest share.

Apple hasn't dictated anything. They offered a product. If someone doesn't like it, they can go somewhere else. No one forced anyone to buy anything.

I'll take profits over market share any day...

;)

The "choice" you are talking about came from half-a-dozen companies putting out practically the same product in different "packaging", i.e. larger/smaller screen, better camera, etc. One company doesn't make fifty different variations of a product.

Also, as I've mentioned before, Apple isn't "dictating" anything to anyone. They are simply producing a tablet at the size that they believe the largest number of people will be happy with.

I have said it on many occasions and I will say it again. It doesn't pay to bet against Apple. Also, this isn't the PC vs. Mac war. Things are different now. Apple has learned from their mistakes. Apple is utilizing their "first mover" advantage to the maximum extent.

Apple should be worried about Samsung.

You sure?

‘The Familiar Lag’ ★
Vlad Savov, grading the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 on a curve:

Even the very latest version of Android (Honeycomb, v3.2) isn’t quite up to the standard of iOS in terms of responsiveness and utility-enhancing applications, and I did manage to spot the familiar lag when dragging onscreen items around the Android interface. That’s a software shortcoming that will get better with time, mind you, and having the almost-standard 1280 × 800 Android tablet resolution should stand this Galaxy Tab in great stead to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. Samsung says it’ll do its utmost to provide users with the best possible software, but wouldn’t commit on whether or not the 7.7 will get ICS.

So the responsiveness is poor compared to iOS, but it “will get better with time” because of an OS update the device might get. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Next up: Samsung tries a 6.1 tablet. This time it'll be great. They swear! No, really!
