For a smooth scrolling experience in day to day use and for those who do like to game. It’s got to a point where android phones now are smoother than iPhones and refresh rate is why. It’s a fair smoother experience using a phone with 120hz. At the end of the day when you are spending over 1k for a phone this should be the expection going forward.

120hz is likely a big reason why my iPad is my favourite and most used product.

The people who don’t care about refresh rate aren’ the ones who will be buying iPhones over 1k anyway so those people will enjoy the 5.4 inch iphone and the max version.

120hz is not a vital requirement to have smooth scrolling experience. Most people won’t really tell the difference between a 60hz screen and 120hz. 120hz is also not necessary for exceptional gaming experiences - the gold standard benchmark for many years has been 60fps.

Also, market analysis shows that most people don’t care about things like refresh rates. It’s the same with hardware specs, most people don’t care, even ones that have a lot of discretionary income.

And the point I was driving at with 120hz for iPads is the use of the pencil, where real time precise feedback is an actual factor in the user experience.

Of course people won’t care when they are rocking 60hz screens. Like with anything it’s not until apple gets it where people take notice and realise how good it is. Been that way for years.

It’s not a deal breaker for the average customer but once you have it you certainly couldn’t go back to 60hz.

If you are spending 600-900 on the new iphone 12 it’s not a big deal but when you are spending over 1k it should have it. I get why it’s not happening from apple and they have tried to test it but didn’t meet standards or whatever but still the fact we won’t get it until maybe 2021 is poor but i guess this is apple all over.

More like android has real multitasking so more ram is needed to do proper tasks.

No. Android is a poorly optimized resource hungry OS. Why else would a phone or tablet require more RAM than most Windows / macOS laptops?

In other words, Android is a mess.

It’s not optimized as good as iOS that’s for sure but android phones have real multitasking. Apple’s idea of multitasking arrived in 2020 when picture in picture finally arrived on the iphone. Apart from that it has zero multitasking and why android will have more ram than iPhones as it needs it to do certain tasks. UFS 3.1 should mean more ram isn’t needed on android phones so you shouldn’t see more than 12GB of ram being needed

120hz for a 1k+ phone will be 'nice to have', but that premium price is better spent paying for things that are a lot more important and crucial - like 5G, better battery life, better cameras, premium luxury build because it's all about status symbols - ya know, things that most people actually really care about in a premium phone.

It should have all that and a high refresh rate. It’s hard to consider it high end without one to be honest. 60hz fresh rate’s should be for phones in the 300-800 price range not over 1k.

Apple are giving people based on the rumours of the 12 pro line not to get it. The 12 and 12 max is the one most will buy. The fact latest rumour says no 3x optical zoom says to me why bother buying it? The 12 will be worth it for a good £300 cheaper.

Not to mention all the bloatware which Samsung is famous for, which only adds to lag.

So it "should have it" based on what? Your own opinion right? I just showed you the market doesn't really care too much about it. The iPad Pros have a vital use case, the phones do not. Which is why I said it is a 'nice to have' and not a crucial feature.

Just because it’s a nice to have doesn’t mean a pro line phone which is over 1k shouldn’t not have it. It’s based on the fact 120hz should be standard with technology these days and I’m sure when it arrives next year people will go on about how great it is and how much smoother the experience is like people do with all features that finally reach the iphone

Oh so now you're talking about a standard and not a premium product. Make up your mind.

New technologies do not magically become standardized and become cheaper based on wishful thinking. Unless you're purvey to exactly what is going on in the supply chain these days in exact detail.

Standard as in for flagship products!! Seriously it’s not hard to understand. All 1K phones will have 120hz apart from apple this year and it’s poor no matter how many excuses people like to give. Maybe when apple finally add it the iphone it will be as smooth as the comp. until then it’s lagging behind but i guess this is something we have gotten used to over time.

The market disagrees with you. Thank you for your opinion.

Continue to make excuses for why it’s not a big deal all you like. Facts remain just because sales figures are good doesn’t mean high end features shouldn’t be added for expensive 1k phones. The market aren’t buying the pros they are buying the low end devices anyway so the market isn’t really deciding anything here other than wanting to buy cheaper iPhones

Just because the market don’t care about high end features doesn’t mean apple shouldn’t push forward technology through on the pro line.

Just because the market don’t care about high end features doesn’t mean apple shouldn’t push forward technology through on the pro line.

Apple pushed this technology forward in 2017 ahead of everyone else because it actually has a very critical use case with the Pencil. It's a much smarter move than just arbitrarily putting out features that really don't add a whole lot of value, especially if it sacrifices a lot of battery life.

The market doesn't care too much about this particular feature in phones. I've listed other features the premium market cares about and you can actually research them now to validate those claims very easily. Your claim here, not so much.

Like I said, it would be nice to have, but I'm sure most premium users would prefer a longer battery life if given the option. I can wait til 2021 and most Apple users are willing to wait too.

As the poster stayed for real time multi tasking, split screen apps, keeping apps open in the background rather than aggressively closing them like Apple.
Also remember the Samsung devices have Dex mode which means they can be used for in a desktop mode. You need Ram for all of that.

Unlike iOS/iPadOS that runs on native binary, Android runs on virtual machines like JVM/DVM. This is why Android is resource hungry.

Let me steer you in the right direction so you can study a bit more :)

Yes the Apple chips are very powerful on paper but are spinning their nuts off in neutral due to OS limitations your barely getting mutli tasking let alone other functionality that should come with such raw processing power that is simply bragging rights most of the time and only emerges to show some strengths in benchmarks mostly and other than a few games or apps, IRL for most its irrelevant.

I agree Apple has strong polices on privacy but there is nothing to disprove Samsung is not equally safe, I think you are getting mixed up with Google activities that are the sporing ground of comments for the tin hat brigade, that both IOS and Android are vulnerable too, maybe at differing rates of leaks. As we can see even on MR Apple is only safe with their native apps and items on their servers anything else carries a risk even from the App store. Interestingly Samsung Knox and the secure area provided on Samsung phones is a great safer area for extra sensitive data and dual apps etc.

Apple Eco is not consistent as you may think and the obvious one is you must have an IPhone to have an AW not a LTE Ipad and an LTE watch combo will not work as you cannot update your AW but I am sure their are many other trivial inconsistencies that are inconsequential. The key points of Apple ECO advantage are long gone and we are down to simply niceties and preferences now and Samsung with MS are expanding in areas Apple are lagging in.

Apple released many flawed products that have taken class actions to resolve and years of heartache for many owners. The major vulnerability of the 1st Fold was fixed before any of the public got to buy them. No good reviewers note any differences in build quality of Samsung Flagships vs Apple those days are long gone along with available screen area comments. Although I am sure some will have fun with the plastic rear of the smaller Note20, but that's not quality construction its just less premium material.

Yes Apple do support their OS updates for 5 years but we have seen how they treated some customers and again taken legal action to resolve this. I agree its a good point but it's not like your Samsung phone stops working on the 25th month LOL and most receive security updates for another year or 2 in some cases.

As for support many seem not to realize that millions of Apple owners who pay the same prices or more than US/UK/AUS/ETC and do not get the same level of support or warranty. Many countries all you get is a lemon policy 1 year mail in and 90 days phone support. Forget about we like all our customers to be satisfied line and you can return it in 14 days or pop down the road and exchange it, nope nothing for those good Apple customers worldwide.

Yes there are differences but it's largely personal preferences centered around OS or for many entrapment due to staged ECO devices/purchases. Either OEM's flagship devices are good phones just embrace the differences as it's always good to have choices :)

You make some fine points, but none of them really show how Samsung is better in any of the ways I mention. We can't just ignore inferior chip performance (regardless of limitations, it's a mobile device and that's the better move), the shady privacy practices of the very OS they use, a non existent Samsung ecosystem, a completely botched Fold roll out (again, Apple would never release a phone with a crease down the middle), 5 years of software support (unheard of with any Android phone), and the best available in store support. It's totally fair to have your preference, but your grasping with the points you mention.

I think there is an alternative viewpoint.

What limitations in the operating system are causing me to use my phone inefficiently?

On the other hand android apps (according to the logic presented here) have the same risk of insecurities as third party ios apps a....if not more, seemingly. And by this logic the I would hope Samsungs privacy policies are strong, but I can't say that for a fact. And by this logic, beware the Samsung/Google marriage through Android. Samsung Knox only applies to one manufacturer. What about Android Knox?
Apple Eco is not consistent as you may think and the obvious one is you must have an IPhone to have an AW not a LTE Ipad and an LTE watch combo will not work as you cannot update your AW but I am sure their are many other trivial inconsistencies that are inconsequential. This entire paragraph is for the most part is a straw-man. The key points of the Apple ECO are stronger than ever and those who believe we are down to niceties and preferences are simply mistaken.
Apple released many flawed products that have taken class actions to resolve and years of heartache for many owners. Similar to exploding phones and washing machines that caused no heartache for anyone?

What exactly have we seen. Some anecdotal comments on the internet? There are 1 billion idevices out there. Do you believe that there are no issues anywhere? Are other phone manufacturers free from all issues?
As for support many seem not to realize that millions of Apple owners who pay the same prices or more than US/UK/AUS/ETC and do not get the same level of support or warranty. Think the same happens when the manufacturer is off-shore. However, within the US the above isn't true.
Yes there are differences but it's largely personal preferences centered around OS or for many entrapment due to staged ECO devices/purchases. Either OEM's flagship devices are good phones just embrace the differences as it's always good to have choices :)
Entrapment is another word for saying, android doesn't do this or that. Everything boils down to a personal preference...that I agree with...as well as choice is good.

Does no one else find it outrageous a phone made of cheap plastic is selling for $999?

People: iOS doesn’t have enough RAM, and doesn’t too true multitasking.
Me: using my 2020 iPad Pro, with only 6GB of ram, running 6 apps at once, between two spaces and two different slide over views, with a video in PIP,without even a hiccup.
As for the baseline note 20, it’s just embarrassing. $999 for 1080P screen at 60 Hz, a plastic back, and the same meh camera from the S20 that even the biggest android fans found lackluster?
I’m going to say this with absolutely no exaggeration, the $350 pixel 4A it’s a better phone than this. It will get more updates, it’s cheaper, it most definitely has a better camera, and it’s not absolutely demolished by Samsung’s bloat.
now as for the $1300 note 20 ultra, that’s a completely different story. That should be the $999 phone. that’s what should be the flagship default.
Honestly, the crappy bass note 20 is just an insult to their customers. Charging $1000, for a 1080 P screen, with a plastic back? Even Apple wouldn’t do that. The iPhone X from 3 years ago was a better phone than this. It’s got a better screen, it has a higher build quality, and it probably will get longer support and updates.
On top of that, you can still sell one of those for probably $500-$600, meanwhile this note 20 will sell in a year for 200 bucks.
As for the tablet, the iPad is still better. In almost every way, but mainly just optimization. When I use my IPP, I feel like a lot of care and attention went into every detail, especially with the magic keyboard and iOS 14.
To me, android tablets or just huge phones. The majority of developers do not modify their apps to properly support a tablet screen, and most of them are way under powered.

It’s not optimized as good as iOS that’s for sure but android phones have real multitasking. Apple’s idea of multitasking arrived in 2020 when picture in picture finally arrived on the iphone. UFS 3.1 should mean more ram isn’t needed on android phones so you shouldn’t see more than 12GB of ram being needed
again, while the iPhones may not be great at multitasking, explain to me why the iPads can have several apps running at once, on the screen, with slide over, picture and picture, split view, and spaces, and yet they only need 4 GB of RAM. Even iPads with less RAM can still do all this

Poor comparison, as iPhones don’t have QHD resolution quality

Don’t give Apple a free pass for having 60hz in 2020

Some great products announced by Samsung. Fold 2 looks much improved and note as always has the best features on a phone
The Max pro exceeds QHD, the smaller one is just below it. Apple only sticks the under 1080p displays on the cheap phones.
