So.....

Another childish attack on the iPhone.

Samsung Mobile announces a significant loss in their recent Q (ok the some of the bonus' were returned.)

Samsung Mobile knows they only have from now till early Sept to sell. It's almost like they are betting on the month delay between the 4.7"and the 5.5" to sell a few more phones. Has it come to this Samsung Mobile? I laugh in your face.

Desperate times from a poorly run division of a company. :apple:

Maybe I just love waiting? I can either wait for an iPhone with way too big of a screen or buy Samsung phone today with way too big of a screen AND a horrible OS… or just use an iPhone 5. No need to wait for anything. I'm probably not going to buy a new phone ever again anyway.

Seems like even Samsung is hyping up the iPhone 6 :D

They don't realize that not everyone follows Apple news, so Samsung just delivered the news to so many average consumers on TV that Apple will be introducing an iPhone with a larger screen soon.

Someone should tell Samsung that even bad publicity is good publicity.

The biggest difference was that MAC vs PC campaign did a few key elements different.

1. It made fun of the generic PC user, where as Samsung clearly attacks Apple by brand.

It's the other way around. The Mac (not MAC like MAC address) vs PC ads made fun of Windows PCs themselves, and Samsung makes fun of Apple users. The people in the Mac vs PC ads were supposed to be personified computers.

First of all, I never said 5.5" screen. Can't imagine ever wanting a phone with a 5.5" screen. Or, to be more precise I can't imagine ever wanting a phone big enough to hold a 5.5" screen.

But yes, I could see Apple finding an innovative way to make a larger screen than they currently offer, and putting it in a form factor the same or similar in size to their current phone. Edge to edge would be one plausible way of doing it. And they could also do something creative with the home button.

The point I was making in my OP was that Apple tends to re-think the paradigm, more so than other manufacturers. And even you must admit that they have surprised and upended the market on a number of fronts over the years by doing so. It's not beyond their capabilities to do it again where larger screens are concerned.

I think Apple will make a 5.5" or something near that size. I have no doubt they will bring something interesting to the table with the next iPhone. If they go edge to edge like the LG G3, it would help a bit. I see the home button as the biggest stumbling block size wise unless they make it virtual or some other innovative idea to cut down the space above and below the screen. If the home button was onscreen, the phone could be shorter and have a bigger screen. The G3 packs a huge screen in a manageable size. I have no doubt Apple could do that if they so desired.

Am I the only person left in the world that doesn't want a bigger screen? I think the size of the iPhone 5 is perfect.

No, but, a significant number of iPhone users want the larger screens. And, most importantly, a significant number of Android users will convert to the iPhone because of the larger screens. Samsung is probably very worried about losing customers.

Google is probably even more worried.

Samsung isn't Google.

Facebook isn't a hardware manufacturer. Samsung will be fighting razor thin profit margins just like PC manufacturers did.

And that may be a business model that works for them since they do make a lot of the parts.

You're probably right. This could make a noticeable dent in Android sales, especially in the US.

And yet Google makes more money off iOS then they do from Android presently. The less Apple relies on Google services like search and now maps this will become a bigger problem for Google in the long run.

It's funny no one likes these ads. I think they're not that different from the Mac vs. PC ads..

I agree, they seem similar but the difference between these ads and the Mac vs PC ones were that the Apple ones were lighthearted and fun, didn't go on the extreme and attack Microsoft but noted an alternative way for using computers. Meanwhile Samsung goes all out and makes it seem like Apple users are idiots for 'not being able to keep up with them'. Way to win over customers Samsung.

Samsung is seriously worried if they start pre-emptive commercials.

When Apple goes up to 5" Samsung won't have an obvious advantage any more, where are they going to go? 6"? The current phones have maxed out the limit of usability.

When an iPhone gets a big screen, it's going to break sales records in a big way.

Google makes more from iOS than Android. Microsoft make more from Android than WP. Crazy world.

And once again, Samsung is incapable of promoting one of its products without having to compare itself to Apple.

It makes them look weak.

It's difficult to promote the most expensive band aid of all time without attacking your competitors.
