Am I the only person left in the world that doesn't want a bigger screen? I think the size of the iPhone 5 is perfect.

You are. And I'm gonna LMAO when Apple releases a 4.7" (still small) iphone next month. Gonna love to see all the whining and bitching on these forums.

Apple took extreme care to make sure that none of the people using PCs were made fun of. Any PC user associating themselves with the "dumpy" guy in a suit did so on his own and at no point, ever, did Apple think this would or could ever happen. Ever.

I disagree. Apple flat out implied that if you didn't use a Mac, you were a clumsy, dumpy un-cool geek.

I say this completely unbiased. I have used iPhones since the app store opened and had every iPad version. I've been a Mac guy for 6 or 7 years and have literally spent thousands making iTunes content the basis of my large video collection. Plus, Apple TV's and the occasional iPod over the years. And I just blew $3300 on a top of the line 15 inch Macbook Pro Retina.

So I can say I am a big fan of Apple products. But I don't understand people's compulsion to think Apple can do no wrong. When Apple does well, buy their stuff. When they make a bad decision, say so. This fanboi stuff just sounds ridiculous.

Its a sign of decline....if you're losing money for almost a yr, youre declining. What's funny is people (not necessarily you) were saying Apple was declining or doomed cuz of their stock price, when their sales and profits were growing. Funny world we live in.

Suffice it to say, the reasons for Samsung's decline are varied and legion. I personally don't think their ads are the problem. We differ. It's okay.

Completely, totally, and not even remotely related to topic: You may be wondering about my word choice in my quotes. I recently received my book of the month from R.I.F. and decided to flex my medulla oblongellato. ;)

This seems like a terrible idea for Samsung, IMO. Sure, they might get some sales they might not have otherwise before Apple releases its larger screen iPhone in September.

However, at the same time they are basically advertising that the only advantage of the Samsung is the size, one that will be nullified in 2 months. After that people who buy into the ads will have no reason to pick a Samsung over an iPhone anymore.

Agreed. This ad is directed at current iPhone users who may want a bigger screen, and now Samsung is basically giving them a reason to not switch to Samsung.

Interesting choice. The very first line in the commercial is basically telling people "Hang on just a little longer. That bigger iPhone you've wanted will be here soon."

Rif! Loved those commercials...oh and of course the ads aren't the problem.

Could be artifacts of OLED vs. IPS screens.

Yeah I think that's about it. The S5 screen seems to have a matt finish whereas that iPhones are more gloss, for want of a better way to describe them. I just prefer the way the iPhone screen looks

Have you considered you might be biased?

Well yeah, there is that... ;)
But in all honesty I just wast impressed with the experience of the new "flagship" Samsung, up against my 2 year old iPhone.

But that's just me... :)

And having said all that, the iPhone 6 would want to be mind-blowingly good for me to want to upgrade to that as well

The only thing Samsung is lacking is historic vision. The Mac vs PC ads, which were similar, didn't work for apple since windows pcs won hands down. This kind of ads only work keeping loyalty imo, but if you are losing (the sgs5 sells worse than the iphone), like apple also in that era, you need to conquest, not just to keep your position.

Ironically, I was going to edit my post with the matte vs gloss comparison, but was too lazy to do it :)

Overall, I slightly prefer the IPS screens as well (especially in laptops - don't care much for the matte finish), but I can see the attractiveness of OLED on a small phone screen - its very colorful and bright.

Or maybe they want to convert the contracts that are up for renewal between now and the next iPhone launch.

"Why wait when you can have the feature you want... Now? Oh, and by the way, your friend is already enjoying that feature, so you know it's awesome."

That said, if you are committed to the Apple ecosystem, this doesn't apply to you. But if you have an iPhone and a PC and a Kindle, then it may.

Actually it's the other way around. Samsung sells way more phones than apple. The galaxy s5 by itself, no.

They are promoting big screens, which means high end samsungs, and if I'm not wrong they sell less than iphones. It's obvious that if they mention the iphone, the ad is not about the galaxy Y

Yes, another example of "It sucked until Apple did it - then it became a great idea".

Well there's nothing wrong with preferring one mobile OS to another. And in the case of iOS and Apple, their products integrate better with one another than Samsung and Android. However there seems to be a lot of hate towards Samsung by people that haven't even used their products. It's usually just heresay from people. I for one, always embraced the idea of the phablet and the larger screen smartphone all the way back when Dell had the Mini 5 and was the first of its kind. I would have even jumped on that bandwagon too had the iPhone 4 not come out and make every other smartphone on the planet at the time completely irrelevant. It just goes to show you how great a salesman Steve Jobs was, and how ahead of their time Apple was.

With that being said, if Apple can really nail it, I'll gladly switch back to the 5.5" iPhone 6.

True, but the Mac vs PC was a terrible analogy. Either way, I have a gs4 and it will be my last Samsung. Touchwiz is hot garbage.

Yep I know. They're losing market share and have had declining profits for almost a yr. Can't figure out how that strategy is working for them.

Samsung is hurting. But not because of Apple or people wanting small screens. They're getting hurt by new players like Xiaomi who are undercutting Samsung. The fact is that the big screen market is growing faster than the iPhone market is. The one thing that Apple has that Samsung doesn't is iOS. But the Android smartphone market is no longer just Samsung.

why? I had a s1 and a s3 and the worst about the last was, materials apart, the os customization samsung makes. Really, using a pure android would be much much better
