Samsung today announced the launch of the T7 Shield, the newest addition to its T7 portable SSD lineup. The T7 Shield is designed to be Samsung's most damage-proof SSD, with improved durability for use both indoors and outdoors.

The T7 Shield features an IP65 water resistant aluminum casing that is able to hold up to rain and dust, plus it offers crush resistance and protection from drops up to 9.8 feet high.

A rubberized exterior encases the aluminum to keep the SSD safe, and because it is the size of a business card, it is ideal for use when traveling. It comes in black, beige, and blue.

The T7 Shield features read speeds of up to 1050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1000MB/s, which Samsung says is more than 1.9x faster than SATA-based portable SSDs.

According to Samsung, the T7 Shield is compatible with PCs, laptops, mobile devices, game consoles, and more. It is priced at $160 for 1TB and $290 for 2TB, and it is available from Samsung's website.

Yes. Yes I am.

Would you like to discuss Apple’s use of 5400rpm spinners?
They dont use them anymore so i can see how it matters.

Internal ssd is always going to be faster. Yet, it does not have that dramatic real world usage difference.

Don’t make excuses for it; Apple charges too much for SSD upgrade. That is just a fact.
Why wouldnt they when people buy them instead of buying external storage? And yes it does make a difference, just becouse you use your machine for emails doesnt mean everyone does

$239 for 2TB is not bad but I do prefer my 2TB G-Drive SSD over the T7 which I also own. For at home use, the T7 is OK but for the road or when go hiking, the G-Drive SSD is the way to go if you want ultra rugged protection!!!

They really need to offer a 4TB option. Been stuck at 2TB as their top offering for years.

Sandisk makes a really good one. This is the pro, but there's a non-pro too:

HOLY CRAP. Why will Samsung not come out with a 4TB model? I’ve been waiting ages for a 4TB model. The T7 came out years ago. Where is the next generation with 4TB? I know that the density exists to put 4TB into an SSD this size.
Just buy the SanDisk version. They do much better in writing large files and don't slow down like the T7's in the reviews.

I have two Samsung T7 1 TB drives for ad hoc backups, copies and such, and am trying to understand why they need rubbers, (with ribs no less).
