The capability and popularity of the AirPods cannot be understated, but man do I still loathe that design. It looks like a couple of antennas sticking out of your ear.

What, and wires dangling out of your ears looks less weird, does it?
AirPods look exactly the same as the wired earphones, but with the wires removed – wired versions only appear to look less weird because you're more used to them...

I LOVE to see competing products, but I assume Apple will continue to have an edge over other Bluetooth accessory manufacturers with their proprietary W1 chip, which I believe is especially beneficial in earbud products that have limited battery capacity.

Wires had to be there. AirPods are a crude first step from wired to wireless. They are the equivalent of when mobile phones had antennas like this:

Wirelessly charging the buds by laying them on the back of a s10 is a neat idea, if you didn't have a case that already charges them when you put them in.

Samsung makes their own watch CPU, so they can make something current in the smartwatch realm - the non iOS section of the market is theirs for the taking (as long as they don't restrict it to Samsung only smartphones) - that the Android watch makers don't have access to (their Qualcomm CPU is in reality 3 or 4 years old).

Interesting Sammy appears to be going after the lower end Fitbit market with the other fitness tracker they're showing here.
They've had that kind of fitness tracker for a few years now. I had last year's model and returned it. It worked great but was bulky and uncomfortable.

I’m interested in wireless earbuds. I bought AirPods and one stays in fine, but the other falls out. I may give these a try.

Amazed at how stupid Apple is to think they could make a one size fits all earbud.

Apple has a watch only if you own one of their horrible overpriced and cripplingly locked down phones though. Samsungs watches work with the vast majority of phones. Choice is good.

"Choice is good" in and of itself is not an argument. Price is not objective, but highly subjective. For being locked down ... I and millions of others don't see it that way.

I see AirPods in the wild way more then I do 3rd party ones.
It’s cause they have more flexibility with functionality and portability. People buy them, like them, tell their friends about it - word of mouth. I see much more AirPods around then any new tech.

According to this article, functions like the charging will likely be limited only to the S10. You can also buy a Series 3 for as low as $199 on sale. Not sure what your talking about. Crippling locked down? Huh? Ever use one of these things?

I’m interested in the watch, not buds. Apparently they sell the watch with a full on cell service that doesn’t require tethering. I think I could create everything I need in google calendar (some duplicated due to shared ios calendar) and if it has activity tracking, timer, weather, and working cell phone with google contacts I could drop the iphone and apple watch. I could still keep the ipad and mac mini and make it work.

Again, irrelevant product because people with AirPods want iOS.

Those also look stupid.

I used to think the same, until I saw a small in ear product (like bragi headphones for instance look great in real life), and it makes the airpods look extremely dumb.

I'm sure apple will change the design to make it more of a compact design with a next major refresh (probably a few years down the line), but right now apple is playing it safe with their design due to there being potential compromises in battery life and connectivity if they were make it more compact.

In this sense other manufactures have leap frogged apple's design, however they're also plagued with connectivity issues sometimes, so they lose out regardless of the better design.
