Samsung is going to stop offering Xbox XCloud support and block their customers to games/services they want badly?!!!
Well Samsung has a history of mocking and copying Apple, so I expect the charger to disappear in the future. With respect to xbox xcloud, petition Microsoft to play by the rules and make it happen. Don't blame Apple for enforcing their TOS.

It’s not b.s. That’s the lazy, cynical, guy-living-on-his-mom’s-couch point of view, but it’s not reality. The European Union has actally been investigating e-waste and criticizing electronics makers like Apple for years for the acres of landfills replete with chargers, cords, and adapters. The problem is very real, and if you’re not aware of it then it’s time to get wise. Apple, as they often do, are leading the charge from the front, and taking much of the fire that the cowards hiding behind them (cough, cough, Samsung) will miss.

Also, why would anyone need a USB A cable? Every one alive has half a dozen of them from all the phones they’ve bought. The USB C cable is provided for those with modern computers that have USB C but not cables.

You see, it‘s all logical and makes sense. Just kinda hard to see all that from the cheap seats in your parents’ basement.
If only I lived in my parent’s basement. If only my parent had a basement. Dare to dream...

In some ways, I feel like the mocking is justified. IMO, Apple's nixing of the charger was a bit premature, especially since we're not talking 5W adapters, but rather 15W+ adapters. In other words, "too soon."

Same thing they said about the headphone jack when Samsung ditched it....”Apple did it too early, Samsung did at the right time”

Thats dumb. Hell no. I am not going to ask Microsoft to put out 150+ separate games onto the App Store.

What would you do with your old phone? May be give to someone else or sell it, who would need to buy a new power adapter anyway.
Every single person I know I’d give it to already has had an iPhone and already has a charger and cables all over the place.

The prior power bricks aren't compatible with the cable included with the new iPhones. Old are USB-A and the new one being USB-C.

I know you can use the old cable but then when that breaks are you just going to keep buying usb-a to lightning cables and have the new cable sat unused in the box forever? Not great for their environmental credentials.
I’ve never had a charging brick die. I never use apples standard cables anyway. The only ones I do use are the fast charging usb c ones from Apple and I’ve had those for years already. I dont care if anything is in the box besides the phone honestly. I have a MacBook Pro and the usb c in the box is fine for me. Most people will use their old chargers and cables for phones now. Not a biggie.

Funny that the cable that they decided to keep they also decided to change so that it wouldn't work with the previous power adapters you have.
Yea it’s a bad move on apples part to include this cable in the box. I’ve always used my old stuff anyway so I would just toss this cable in with the tons of other cables I have and never use it.

But then they would essentially simply be helping the environment some more without giving a reason for some consumers to give them more money by purchasing a USB-C charger from them.

I have a charger by my bed and one at work, none of them are the one that came in the box of any of my 10 iPhones, and has not been the included charger or Cable for the past 6 years.

The same goes for the earphones for the pat 5 years I have been using either Airpods, or similar

its about time (I know people who still have about 10 Nokia chargers in their draws).

Most of us have had at least 5 if not more phones that charge on USB - and most people i know have a designated charging area in their home where they have a USB Hub and not 5 separate chargers.

Didn't Samsung make fun of Apple for removing the headphone jack, then eventually do the same thing? I suspect they'll get their digs in early, then in a year or two, also remove the charger.

No doubt they'll remove the charger sooner ora later. Maybe they'll start with cheaper models and eventually remove it from the entire lineup.
