Separate Samsung's flagship sales from the likes of Galaxy Y & Galaxy Ace and he's probably more than right. However when you sell phones at £30 to £40 of course there's going to be greater volume.

So now you're praising Apple for *not* selling phones people want to buy by the 100's of millions?

Cripes!!! 29 Pages of posts?!?!?!

On the dumbest decision Apple's ever made???

Why???

It's a no-brainer: Removing the headphone jack from the iPhone is just stupid.

If true, I thank Apple for making my decision to stay away from iPhone easy, though, integration be damned.

The Note7 is already better than iPhone, just because of this.

Although the Note7 is better, period, in every way except ecosystem integration, but I can live with that. Happy. Ecstatic, actually, since my Note5 is fan-freakin'-tastic.

My opinion, of course.

That's bogus. All that's happened thus far is "thinner". No one wants thinner, but thinner is what you get when you don't have anything else to add. But yes, let's speculate. What goes in the "hole"? More battery? OK, another 50mAh. Oh, now it's waterproof? Nah, bro. Other phones with 3.5 plugs are already there. So, are we holding out for the iris scanner?
I don't know why they removed it yet, do you? No you do not. EVERYTHING so far is merely rumor and speculation. Apple has never ever once confirmed there reasoning for this yet, they have plans further in advance than you'd imagine just like any successful company would let alone the number 1-2 company in the world depending on the week. It may not 100% have to do with waterproofing or anything you've mentioned it may or may not be for other components correct?

One must assume that the pros and cons of removing the jack were discussed by the Apple designers and engineers. I would also assume someone presented the consumer perspective from a market appeal standpoint. Maybe the new phones will come with wireless earbuds to replace the current wired earbuds.
It would be foolish for the folks in this forum to discount the logic of the Apple team if such a change is made. I think their track record affords them some consideration.
Apple can be faulted for waiting so long to offer larger screens etc but their vision has been pretty accurate for a long time.
For those who laud Samsung's innovation, I see products with great specs but not transformative, jaw dropping features.
FWIW, I'm not replacing my nearly two year old iPhone 6 because it still does what I need and I can wait until next year when I expect there will be a major leap forward from Apple.

If you're here on MacRumors making your last-ditch argument that it's "merely rumor and speculation", I can't help you.

If these guys say it's likely gone, it isn't just a run-of-the-mill rumour. As for the reasoning, I'm fairly certain that my prior posts cover it. It comes down to making the most of their Beats acquisition.

I'm not suggesting Apple isn't trying hard to "win at business". But they aren't immune from large errors, as well. Remember they rolled out Ping, the music social media product? They've swung and missed plenty, and many of us have called it out in advance. It happens. I just don't think anyone is prepared for how much impact this is going to have.

That said, if you're waiting for an official press release, you definitely took a wrong turn to be here.

You didn't notice that they purchased beats? I am sure they wouldn't profit at all from dropping the headphone jack.

With the Samsung the divers were taking selfies under water. Nice party piece but the reality of battery life is you're still much better to have a GoPro or something. But that said having a phone that doesn't need to be kept dry is a bonus is every day life. Get caught out in the rain and need to make an emergancy call, or at the pool and it gets wet.

Does make me wonder if they can do this and still have the head phone socket they why can't Apple?

I know that Apple will say (if its true) that using the Lightning port allows for a more pure digital sound but this is crap if you have to use a patch lead to convert to plug in you old head phone.

Time will tell which way Apple will go on this.

Apple may not, but the solution is clear elsewhere... High quality audio via Lightning connector, but i guess with digital, u can do allot,, noise cancelling in the phone for one. why do u need spacial earbuds just for this.

lighting port is for Apple only. Nobody gonna make headphones and earphones just for Apple. And still didn't explain of removing audio jack. Why not keeping it? Also, USB-C port has become the standard.

Guys, remember this?

It's happening again!

In his defence, the iPhone was a pretty bad phone when he made that statement.

No camera flash, no video, no app store, no 3G, locked to a single carrier in basically every country, for those iPhone contracts you also generally had to pay full price for the phone as well as sign up for an expensive 2 year contract on top of it.

Huh? I know the jack is gone I know what the 7 will look like. Everyone here does. I'm stating we don't know what the future holds for the removal of it. And I'm not defending them at all idc what happens to it the iPhone will be the iPhone with an unparalleled OS that I will most likely continue to stay with. The rumors I speak of are specific specs and reasons why it is gone. Last ditch lol I've only posted rational things nothing to defend nor condemn.

Look up the earliest incarnations of cameras and batteries. When Apple decides to jettison those, will you be there making the same "antiquated" argument against the people whining about those getting ejected to an accessory (sold separately)?

Lightning is not a GREAT replacement... just a proprietary one controlled by a single company. It's probably too "thick" for Apple to cling to it for just 5 more years (tip up your iDevice and look at it now vs. ever-"thinner" aspirations- how many generations before it has to be replaced?)

Bluetooth is not quite ready to be an upgrade replacement either.

But let's get rid of 3.5mm anyway because we can imply that it is basically the same as the original from 1878. However, since Apple is not rumored to be kicking out the battery or camera yet, we won't use history to argue against Apple's stupidity in clinging to both of those older technologies.

This is more likely due to tons of people in the same area and not enough extra cell towers to serve them. If you had disabled cellular, it would properly had lasted a lot longer.

I don't recall their ever being problems at these events a few years back and in the UK their we're just as many mobile phones! This is just another excuse for the lack of proper battery's for modern day devices including the iPhone.

This is evolution, my friend.

Heresy! That's one of them new-dangled drives with that there USB connector instead of a proper ribbon cable. What you want is one of these - it's even the right brand:

WOW ... nice work killing off that poster's Buzz.

Yes that's correct. Besides I wasn't *praising* Apple, just pointing out that a more accurate comparison could be made when comparing both companies flagship sales. After all, Samsung just like Apple are in it for the money.

They're trying to hit the majority use case. More battery means more weight and a larger phone. You could make a phone that would handle 24 hours of the most intensive use (and why stop at 24? why not go for, say, 72 hours, so it'll handle a long weekend?), but it would be larger and heavier, and 90% of people wouldn't need all that capacity and a lot would complain about the larger heavier phone. What works for you, for your extended use case would be overkill for most people on most days, but wouldn't be enough for someone, say, doing a three day hike. There is no one magical number, there are only best fits for the majority of cases, which is what Apple is trying to hit. I'd be quick to agree that some more capacity would be nice, and I really don't need my iPhone to be any thinner, thanks, but Apple has their own view, based on a whole lot of data.

FWIW, Amazon will sell you a high quality battery pack for $15 (haha, prices have gone up - I blame Pokémon Go) that'll drop into a pocket, work with your existing cable, and double your battery life. If I were going to such an all-day thing I'd probably take one (figuring that even if my battery lasts, one of my friends might need it). As an Ingress player (the game from which Pokémon Go descended), we pretty much all use external batteries, iPhone and Android users alike. If you take a bottle of water on a trip and run out and get thirsty, do you blame the company that made the bottle of water, or do you just say, "maybe next time I should get two bottles or a bigger bottle."

More than a few of the "thank you sir may I have another" cultists have already made that joke and only the most zealot like fanboys think it's funny.
