I played with a Note 8 at the Verizon store and it didn't feel any bigger than S8 Plus. Seems smaller than my 6s Plus, perhaps because it's a tad narrower and edge is different. I don't think it feels "huge" in any way if you're accustomed to iPhone Plus or Pixel XL. And that screen is fabulous. I don't understand the fuss about the fingerprint sensor either. It seemed usable to me.

I'm quite small and weirdly enough I found myself being able to reach the fingerprint sensor without much trouble.

Maybe in day to day use it'd be more inconvenient I guess? I want to use the iris scanning anyway, loved it last year as felt so cool lol.

Yeah I was all set to buy a Surface Pro 3 (sold my SP2 just a week before launch) only to discover they had moved to N-Trig and as a consequence I've had to avoid purchasing any more Surface products.

It's really annoying because I know if they had kept Wacom I would have certainly continued to purchase their devices.

Now I'm holding onto my older cintiq in hopes that Microsoft eventually move back to Wacom. The cintiq companions are overpriced and frankly ugly.

I would have even loved a Surface studio but they don't even have them here either. It's like Microsoft are conspiring to keep me on mac.

Back to Note8. (Please folks drop the space just like Samsung did) and I am now thinking if the Pixel XL 2 is not launched here (greater chance it will not be), and if the if the iPhone is as pricy as I suspect (€1200), the V30 is likewise unlikely to be launched here too, so the Note8 may still offer the best value on contract. But only if I like the feel of it and if the extra ram fixes my issues with the Exynos S8.

Wouldn't hold my breath on them moving away from N-trig, as they literally bought the company that created it.

Anyone actually get theirs today? UPS now says tomorrow for my delivery. Had my case that I got off Amazon for about a week now. Debating about a screen protector. I have one on my 7+ that has helped keep it looking pristine.

I am testing by ordering one about an hour ago from AT&T Note 8 in black. I still have my original order with Samsung from the 26th. Let's see if the AT&T one beats it. Whichever one that is left after one of them is shipped will be the one I cancel. A bunch are getting theirs shipped by AT&T already. And some that ordered as late as last Saturday.

Nice! Share your thoughts and pics. Verizon?

Yeah, VZW midnight black. I have just been setting it up so I really don't have any thoughts yet. However setting up, even with a ton of apps downloading in the background, the device doesn't miss a beat moving around on it. No stutters or frame drops. Definitely prefer this shape to the S8 Plus.

I need to really play with the S-Pen and camera. Tried out live messages, cute.

Very nice. When you have a moment mind running antutu benchmark and post a screenshot of the results? Also, what is the OS version?

After testing my theory, of ordering from AT&T it worked. At 5:45pm CDT I ordered Note 8, black. And in 1-2 hours it already shipped. I canceled my Samsung order! Dang!

Wow. This is legit. I'm in love. Keep in mind I've had the S8 Plus. So lemme cut to that chase:

NO, this is not just an S8 Plus with a Stylus.

No idea if it's the extra RAM, Samsung Experience 8.5, the eclipse or what but this actually feels much more fluid and fast. I've been taxing this guy hard and still no hint of a stutter.

This feels like the just right version of curved edges and bezel-less. I love the form factor.

Camera. Wow wow wow. Haven't used it that much but the live photo feature works better than Apple's portrait mode imo.

Still have a lot more to explore but damn if this isn't phone of the year.

Sounds awesome :) Samsung really are kicking some ass lately.

The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the fingerprint scanner location. Not sure what they were thinking. That and my Apple Watch not being compatible. Ah well, can't have it all. I have no plans on getting rid of my 7+ so I guess I can just switch back and forth as I desire.

Looks like AT&T has plenty of stock. Also, no improvement on facial recognition. Definitely won't be using this feature.

https://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-note-8-fooled-face-unlock-not-secure/

I call BS. I tried myself to fool the facial recognition on my S8+, it's nowhere near being that easy. He could have easily rest his finger on the finger sensor to give the illusion. Also there is a setting called "faster recognition" when enabled makes it less secure but faster.

Cnet clearly states they tried it on their own phone to see if the video was accurate. Call it what you like but there is no reason to doubt it if the S8 has the same issue. I'll test it myself when mine arrives tomorrow.

I really like the idea of the iris scanner so I think I'll be using that with the FPS.

But I also like the idea of touching on the home button to unlock, or using a voice command (bixby) when I'm at home.

There are so many ways to unlock this thing, it's insane!

Also I agree the facial recognition is secure enough.

The thing is this only really is an issue for someone that knows you. The average thief in the street, or if you leave you phone somewhere, or it falls out of your pocket. In those situations anyone who finds your phone isn't going to have a picture of you.

Someone who knows you will have a picture of you, but it's likely that they could also find other ways of getting into your phone.

So difficult to really test this out as in town all the notes on display or bolted down to the table. Anyway I will find a way when my phone gets here.

From what I read, the phone was in demo mode which basically unlocks via any face...

We tried it on our own Note 8, and sure enough, it's still possible to fool it with a flat photo. A Samsung rep tells CNET that the company's guidance remains the same: You'll want to use the fingerprint sensor or iris scanner for security, and should view facial recognition as a convenient alternative to the simple swipe-to-unlock gesture.

I don’t think their S8 was in demo mode.
