Like that huge monstrosity of a phone nobody would buy or copy from, what was it called, Samsumg Note or something like that...
Samsung Galaxy Tab PRO 12.2 ? I have one without the phone part.

What's the point? I don't want something even thicker in my pocket. I can hardly stand my Lifeproof case on the X (but after paying $300 for a new screen, no way I'm going naked like I always did).

The bitterness by the blind loyalists still going strong I see. Samsung's bone crushing, world dominating tech and innovation also still going strong. Which is a good thing, because the industry would still be at 3.5 inch displays without them. Apple still remaining to be the stragler that it is, and clinging on to Samsung's coattails as usual. What a joke.
There's a lot of fanboyism and hyperbole on this thread but you're not adding anything different and acting the troll to boot.

It’ll be exactly the same size in volume, just more bulk. I prefer thin, you prefer a brick. It’s a big world out there.

Same question. Why? I guess it appeases those fandroids who like to add another step in using their phone.
I already told you the reason: bigger screen.

It would not necessarily have to be thicker than a regular phone when folded.

I imagine something like a Nintendo DS with 2 bezel less screens. The ceo has said he wants to differentiate from a tablet and I suspect that each screen will allow you to run a app (multitasking).

I'm excited to see what they come up with, even though I'm sworn off Android because of the almost daily stories about privacy issues. But kudos for Samsung in pushing this, someone has to push the envelope. Even if this is an atrocity, it may open the way for nice hardware in a few years. Then again Samsung might shoot itself in the foot with the rumored $2k price, I'm not sure anyone except the most hardcore will even consider that price, yeah the gamer market might be a good start. But if this follows the formula of the smartphone market, which never drops in price even with technology advances, it will have a tough time catching on. You better convince consumers they are replacing their laptops/tablets AND phones. Heck Samsung can't even convince consumers to buy their tablets at 1/4 the price.

It also sounds like Samsung isn't making a screen on the outside when its folded, only some kind of information bar. I don't think I'd want one unless I had access to a full smartphone when it's folded, otherwise it's just a foldable tablet. Which isn't a bad thing, but then we go back to that $2k and convincing consumers of its value.

When the ipad 1st came out I thought by now they'd have come up with a way to clamshell two in some sort of computer/tablet hybrid. The touchbar MBPs tells me they're still thinking about it.

You can always tell how bone crushing dominant a new Samsung is when the devoted ones come out and nitpick and grab whatever they hopelessly can in order to make them feel better. Absolutely efing love it. Dominance was the word on the 21st, and after the 21st, the word amongst the devoted was and still is... BITTER.

Lol, whatever makes you sleep better buddy. They did a helluva lot more than ramp up production. They created and developed (innovated) those displays. What a desperate attempt to even give Apple any significant credit for how bone crushing dominant Samsung's OLED displays are. Just makes me laugh to hear the phrase, "works hand in hand." Sure, the same way a couple works hand in hand to buy a house. And one spouse makes a million dollars a year and the other makes 20 thousand dollars a year. And the spouse making 20 thousand dollars a year is telling their friends how proud they are to have saved to buy their new custom built 4 million dollar home. Like that 20 thousand dollar salary had any significant input in that house purchase. Hahaha, yup!

From Displaymate:

"First we need to congratulate Samsung Display for developing and manufacturing the outstanding OLED display hardware in the iPhone X."

Just not worth arguing with some guy on the internet with no knowledge of the subject indeed. Keep peddling your blind loyalist message.

Bottom line: If there's no bone crushing, world dominating OLED tech from Samsung, there's no iPhone X OLED display. Nuff said.

Apple should concentrate on developing Siri to be more competent as a digital assistant, rather than make pack of shortcuts. Sure it's great for children in elementary school to play with, but what about adults that have real productivity needs. At least Samsung takes AI seriously, and invests in it. They're already winning AI competitions. That's what happens when you wait and play the long game, rather than rush out a gimmicky thing like Siri. Bixby 2.0 should be a big leap forward. Bone crushing dominance in AI.

Bone crushing dominance over the iPhone X. Don't forget boys and girls, Speed Kills!!! ;)

Hhahahaa, 4K video editing on a phone? Yup, I need to do some 4K video editing on my phone, said nobody.
Take that out of the speed test, and the Note 9 (on old software) crushes the iPhone (on almost a year of optimization through software updates) all day every day. But let's forget the world dominating, bone crushing Note 9, lets look at even an older device, the Galaxy S9+. Again, same results. Win Win Win baby!!!

Change the record mate. You sound like a bad spambot at this point.

Also Rumored: James rolls his eyes so hard, they pop out. WTF is the use case for this? Nobody I know has said "damn this phone is too big in my pocket" around me since ever.

I already told you the reason: bigger screen.

It would not necessarily have to be thicker than a regular phone when folded.

Lol, please explain the physics of that...

Essentially, you’re claiming that phones could be twice as thin as they are now, but for some reason choose not to, or describing an impossible feat of physics, or....??????

I would pay upwards of $1500 for an iPhone that unfolded into an iPad Mini. Not joking.

Definitely. That's the ultimate, sci-fi end game of the foldable phone concept. I think when this idea matures it will be amazing. It will be pretty gimmicky initially.

It will be thick, but the improvement is "NO MORE SHATTER GLASS".

As always, they will be the first to market.

Then Apple will make it work properly
....yea Apple, you know, the mighty screen manufacturing juggernaut or are we talking about the other Apple who actually manufacture nothing?
