Eventually they’ll figure out how to project a laser into your eye using the tracking gyroscope chips and project the screen in front of you any size since images we see with our eyes is just light particle and waves.

This looks great. If more providers supported RCS that would undermine the advantage iMessage has and make Android phones more appealing.

I appreciate Samsung trying to do different form factors, but they need to remember the basics on these expensive devices, like putting in better camera tech. I would try a Flip for the smaller form factor, but the cameras are so “meh” from the reviews I’ve read and the few minutes I played with one.

I'm holding out for this from Apple...

I hope this one actually pans out for them. I find folding phones to be quite cumbersome and compromised.

A rollable screen (if done well) would be a way better thing to perfect.

without samsung huawei or other of many already started 4" 5" and so on...only Apple under Steve was stuck for 3.5"
Making a bigger display i wouldnt call innovation...the quality of the display its a different thing
Intel was because of the silicon brain Johny Srouji, now is at Apple for a decade and we see how its going
Again, this is a main device nowadays, people everyday use this , its something that you can count on...you cannot say "gotta start somewhere...is like when car industry innovated airbags but they weren't reliable at all and people got hurt...again, for prototype "gotta start somewhere" is ok, but when you charge a price, the consumers must rely on their devices daily
I wasn't referring to samsung specifically but competition in general. If someone else isn't trying to push the boundaries, then why innovate? Why does intel need to go spend money and go above 4 cores/8 threads when the competition doesn't even reach half of the single core performance? Why spend more money in materials in a bigger screen when everyone else is using a small screen phone. Why improve iPadOS when the competition doesn't even come close? Just milk the current tech, slap some marketing lingo like mega ultra platinum plus 80 COREZ and let the cash roll in. It takes money to innovate and often carries a ton of risk (e.g. butterfly keyboards on macbooks, trashcan mac pro). This of course leads to stagnation but if someone's trying to push the limits, there's not much choice but to push forward, which is good for us: The early adopters sort out the issues and the rest of us jump in when it's stable.

Also, cant really compare phones to something much more critical like air bags. Likewise, people who need phones for mission-critical purposes are unlikely to jump on new stuff - they're much more likely to stay with proven tech, which will remain available anyways

Had no idea Flip and Fold were that successful, although my doctor had a Flip the last time I saw him. I’m more of a candy bar person, but Apple seems to be moving in the direction of building bricks.

Samsung lets users pay to be alpha testers. Cheap labor and the impossibility of tech or warranty support make this approach successful for them. For the most part, Apple’s focus is electronic appliances. They may not have the most features, but they are reliable.

By the time they get this figured out Apple be onto on screen contacts that we wear in our eye:rolleyes:
All they have to do is buy InWith Corp and they do not need much more.

haha thanks for the laugh, Apple making reliable stuff... maybe once, but users have always been beta testers ( NEVER BUY REV A Apple products has always been a mantra).

From Cracking to broken ribbon cables to failing keyboards and nvidia cards... Apple is not as reliable as you might think.

"Samsung will add a third foldable device to its smartphone lineup this year that will likely feature a unique rollable form factor, according to a reliable leaker of Samsung's plans."

The main problem with all of these is that the display is just never entirely flat and even. There is always a crease or some unevenness.
Exactly, the waviness on the screen is too distracting, and you can notice it on every expandable screen phone that exists so far.

They really do seem like a solution in search of a problem--I still can't figure out why these exist.

Meanwhile at Apple, notches are still a thing, and having a punch hole selfie camera and Face ID pill shaped cutout is going to be considered a ‘Pro’ feature on the 14 Pro models .
The notch itself doesn’t bother me but we need a new design from Apple. Can’t be using same old design over and over.

You have to admire Samsung’s courage releasing innovation like this.
It is not courage to use your customers as beta testers. Innovation is only important when it is useful in any meanigful way. Im still waiting for my rollable TV that was shown by LG some years ago.

"Without Samsung, we would still have 3.5” iPhones and 4gb storage for $1999"

Oh, right! The iPhone 3GS and 4 cost $2,000 -- NOT!

Don't think that there has ever been an Apple phone that cost that much.

In fact, the high-end phones' prices have gotten higher in recent years, not lower. Gee, thanks, Samsung!

That Oppo 2021 phone looks ridiculous. Not that much bigger a screen. Indeed, the entire operation of sliding out the display reminded me of sliding out a keyboard.
