Don't fall into this samsung game. This is just an idea translated into a video to make appear that Samsung it is close to release this product. Buy in reality, what they are doing is saying "we are the first that we did it..." In the other hand Apple, it´s very secretive in theirs developments proceses, and we don't know what are they doing.

So, we just have to wait to see witch company come out with a really original proposal..

In the meanwhile, we can not forget the horrible thing that using Android would be...

Who knows what Apple's r&d department is researching but I'm actually glad that Samsung is coming out with this first. It gives the guys at Apple the opportunity to see what the public response is, flaws in materials and design, etc. Hopefully if the public response is positive then Apple will come out with their own spin on the tech. If they don't go in the direction of bendy phones then maybe they have something else, hopefully superior, up their sleeve.

More like fanboyrumors... There are zealots from both sides...

I've said it before, the best phone out there is the one you prefer.

An "article" like this is ridiculous.

Samsung has been promising the same thing for years.

The problem is not making the flexible pannel. Sony has it, LG has it:

The problem is making the rest of the phone!

This is going to make Apple release those titanium and 7000 series aluminium watch bands they've been holding back on for rainy days.

So they've invented bendable PCBs? And SoCs? And batteries?

Doubt it.

Really? You'd simply put some components on side, other components on the other with flexible cables connecting everything.

I can't see this idea having a glass screen? Must be plastic. I can't imagine it working well if they really actually produce a product.

I'll believe it when I see it. On the other hand, I fully expect tech like this to show up at some point in the future. It would be a shame if it has to come from the likes of Shamesung. Unfortunately it seems Apple is too busy with social issues and gimping customers at the low end with mediocre storage capacity to focus on the 'next big thing.'

I get the impression that some people have never considered a bendable display before, and are confusing that with the idea that Apple has never considered a bendable display before. I think it's more likely that top companies like Apple, Samsung, LG, etc are continually evaluating and re-evaluating a smorgasbord of technologies, their trade-offs, and their risk of implementation. (Flexible display technology in particular is not new; it existed before smartphones.) Add to that competitive intelligence, and I think it's not often that Apple or Samsung are caught completely flat-footed by the other's announcements.

Pablo - yes, we do know what Apple is doing - VERY LITTLE !! Timmy has been CEO now for 5 years and what have we seen that has been on par with the previous game changing products? Timmy's magical pipeline of innovative products that never arrives. My belief is that Apple is at a critical inflection point this WWDC - Timmy's constant babbling about what is coming is not cutting it anymore for many of us. I hope we see some real substance next week, otherwise confidence in Apple will continue to drop.

Finally a smart flip phone

I was thinking... "the new flip phone". We have had "smart" flip phones before... evidenced by my avatar... the infamous Kyocera 7135.

But seriously, this is an innovative idea that could really have some value. Being able to unfold the phone would essentially allow you to have a more compact phone for using it as a phone, but then be able to make it a phablet easily. Imagine a phone the size of an SE (perfect size in my opinion for pocketing), and then be able to unfold it into a phone 40% larger than a 6S+ to use for browsing, games, etc.

Oh yes we do ... think THIN ... THINNER ... THINEST.

I have a feeling you're trying to be funny here ...

But the joke's on you and others who don't seem to realize making thin phones is a requirement to overcome the technical hurdles to get to foldable OLED screen smartphones.

What happened to Samsung smart window. Wasn't that suppose to launch like 4 years ago, but I dont see those anywhere. Tech like this is cool, in fact smart window is probably easier to produce than this but i dont see it anywhere. I don't think this will launch in 2017. Maybe 2027.

Did you see how thick the jerk's tablet was? I bet the battery lasts a really long time. Apple should really look into that.

Interesting. I'd be curious to see how one bend point would hold up after a lengthy amount of time. Thinking this might be like a credit card you want to discard, bending it until it breaks.

This will destroy Tablet sales, because your phone will essentially open up to the size of an iPad. Imagine Opening up your iPhone 6s or 6 Plus. It would be the size of an iPad Mini or iPad.

Very interesting. Wonder how reliable those bendable phones would be. My iPhone 5 from 2012 is still great and everyday with me. Works even better then on the first day, due to iOS 9 of course.

I would check the battery wear life on that iPhone 5.

That's what Apple is best at. They let their competitors expose the flaws in technology and then they come out with a refined version of that.
Always. Steve Jobs would always introduce the competitors product, then say what the problems were, how Apple fixed them, why their version is better, and introduces the latest and greatest. Apple didn't invent the smartphone or the tablet or the MP3 player.. They simply made the best versions and redefined the space.
