I wonder if they’ll go the proposed apple way and back to aluminium for the frames this time
They could, but it is already lighter than Apple's Pro Max. Just a matter of if it will save them money, because they can certainly use Apple's maneuver as an excuse to switch to aluminum. I don't think Samsung is as desperate to cut weight since they are keeping the Edge around, but any weight savings would still be a nice-to-have.

Apple ditched the steel to cut weight with the 15 Pro, added the weight back in with the 16 Pro, and now are supposedly adding more battery and larger camera hardware with the 17 Pro, so they need to cut weight wherever they can. I just wonder how far north of 8 oz. the 17 Pro Max will land.

Tbf, was you really planning on upgrading? I thought you were targeting the upcoming Pixel series.

I'm looking at the upcoming Pixel series yes, in order to see what Google are doing. It depends really on if I like what I see at the Pixel event in a couple of weeks. When it comes to Android I have no definite need to upgrade because my iPhone is my daily driver most of the time. However I do like to have an Android phone, who knows maybe one day there will be one that can fully convert me. I'm just yet to find it.

Yeah, I doubt you will ever leave the iPhone alone lol. Probably stay on the dual iPhone and Android life... but I have long moved on from the iPhone (since 2019).

Only thing that could possibly have me return to it... Apple version of the foldable phone, if they plan on going with original Pixel Fold/Oppo Find N2 form factor. And it's going to be a battle of form factor between them and Android, which I think Apple will win based on watching videos and SplitView multitasking.

Things that I believe consumers will gravitate toward when deciding if they want a foldable phone. But I'm kind of torn on breaking up my Android & iPad combo, because buying Apple foldable would mean both will go. As much as I like my Galaxy Fold (and Good Lock)... I could possibly end up remaining on the Fold series, but if Samsung decides not to bring back S-Pen support it will have me consider something else.

I'm conflicted about foldable's, they seem to be trying to be too many things at once. Durability is also a concern along with cameras and battery life. Rumours and leaks are saying that Apples foldable will have near invisible crease and be more durable. I don't know how Apple will pull this off when Samsung have been in the foldable for a longer and they haven't managed too. But on the other hand Apple may have waited until they have it perfected, let's be honest it's likely that Apple will make the foldable more mainstream just because they are Apple. But I'm still a bit weary of foldables.

Pixel devices interest me because stock Android is suppose to be the cleanest and best version(depending on opinions of course.

The S26 ultra may be impressive, at this point who knows. I just don't think they should remove the S-Pen.

Durability will be a concern with any device that you own... fully aware there's moving parts that could cause issues, but Samsung and Android OEMs have put in ridiculous amount of resources into making sure these foldables durable.

Perhaps you are right, but Apple wouldn't be able to enter the market without Samsung pushing forward with the idea of a foldable phone.

You make it seem as if they are fragile and break easily... which is far from the case.

Highly unlikely Samsung remove the S-Pen for the S26U... there is plenty of designs out there of it indicating there won't be much changed from the S25U. Which means... the S-Pen will remain.

I think being concerned foldables are fragile is a valid concern!

I know of at least 9 people at my place of work who have had either a fold or a flip and every one of them has had issues, mostly screen failures, 2 of them had hinge issues where they wouldn't open fully.

And I disagree.

Fragile make it seem as if they are brittle and very easy to break, been using foldables for the past 5 years and only had one issue. If these things are fragile... doesn't make sense for Samsung to continue making them. Releasing a phone that is used as highly as it is to be fragile (not to mention costly), it would be tied up in repairs if that were the case.

I stated moving parts could be an issue and yes, durability is a possible concern (which insurance could alleviate)... I push back on the idea that it's fragile.

It’s not as if they will just fall apart with one touch, but they are more fragile than a normal brick phone. I’ve known people to go to the beach and the sand wrecks their phone. That’s not my experience so I can’t say personally, however going off what people have told me, I’m just very cautious when it comes to foldables. That’s not to say i wont be interested to see what Apple do, i will definitely be interested because it’s Apple.

I’m trying to understand here… you call them fragile and are very cautious about owning a foldable. But Apple wouldn’t magically make it better, there is still moving parts that they must use to make one.

Apple will be in the same position as others… it would be as you call it “more fragile than a normal brick phone.”

That’s why i said I’m willing to see what they do, there have already been reports that Apple’s foldable will have a less visible crease than Samsung. Maybe they have found a way to increase durability. I’m not sold on foldables no matter whom makes them, but I’m willing to wait and see what Apple does, I would need to sold on it even by Apple.

Fair enough, but I think you fall into the camp of… it has to have an Apple logo for me to buy it, which is okay. Many fall into the camp, but hiding behind durability when in reality it’s more about Apple.

I think it’s more that i believe Apple do enter categories late, when they do they make more of a difference, at least in my opinion. They weren’t the first to do a smartwatch but they make the best one (in my opinion), they weren’t the first to make ear buds they make the best ones (AirPods Pro), they weren’t the first with tablets, but the iPad is still the best tablet I’ve ever used. The same with computer (Mac) and phones (iPhone). I think it’s more of a faith thing, of course they have had some fails but i do think overall that Apple enter categories, make them better but also make them more mainstream and popular. That’s just my opinion tho and of course is not speaking for everyone else.

That’s not to say I haven’t gotten frustrated with Apple, i have, in the end tho I’ve always returned to using their devices. Even if i do use an Android phone (S24 Ultra) to play around and see what the other side is like.

If that’s the case, Apple AI better be amazing!

Apple have definitely misjudged AI. I was referring more to physical products tho, Apple can be hit a miss when it comes to software.
