Everybody's assuming that Samsung's iteration will duplicate Touch iD, why?

I'm pretty sure there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Some of you need to come out of that lil cobblestone hut you've been dwelling in, there's a huge world and plenty of adventures out here for you to see :D

You think Apple invented fingerprint scan security?

This is obvious and well known but Apple is the first to mass market a successful fingerprint scan in consumer devices. Everything else has sucked before this. I'd love to hear you deny this since it is something I know a lot about and can easily rebut.

----------

Moving from their half ass semi-working iris scan implementation to fingerprints is enough. They are copying Apple. Get over it.

The 5s fingerprint reader works easily and seamlessly and is far from a gimmick.
Apples displays are made by Sharp, LG, And Samsung.
I have been to the factories in a China that make laptops and PC's for Apple, HP, Dell, Lenovo, and others.
Apple designs retina displays to their specs, requires extensive calibration, and demands higher quality leading to a much higher reject rate.
Samsung doesn't even bother to calibrate their own displays in their products and will ship anything off the assembly line. So do the others.
So you know..don't be ignorant.

That's pretty funny.. So why do I have to enter my passcode so often? Don't get me wrong I didn't buy a 5s for a gimmick fingerprint scanner.

But to say it works EASY and SEAMLESSLY is hilarious.

Own a MacBook? iPad? Where do you think those displays come from?

Ignorant..

This is obvious and well known but.

Even if they are, Apple copies as well. Hell, everybody copies, borrows and implements others ideas. Apple is the only one in denial that puts up a huge stink about it.

And Touch ID isn't all that flawless either. I have to redo my fingerprints nearly every 2-3 weeks or deal with the dreaded "try again" slogan. But yeah, it just works

That's your problem, since mine is working flawlessly since day one.
Apple borrows others ideas and take them to another level, to a really usable level, for the first time.
And THEN samesung copy that.

Motorola Atrix implemented a fingerprint scanner more than a year ago: why Samsung didn't include that on Galaxy S4 ? And why Samsung is going to use it on s5 just after iPhone 5S success ?

I really can't understand how could you defend Samesung .... Really .... Unless you are a very nationalistic Korean

Samsung is working on a phone with a fingerprint scanner & brighter OS.

Here’s a photo of their prototype:

Nah, this is the REAL leaked prototype of the Galaxy S5:

Samsung Said to Follow Apple's Lead with Fingerprint Sensor, No Iris Scanner ...

Ha ha it's my problem because yours works flawlessly. Great answer, it's not like I'm inventing an issue. The forum is abundant with threads that report the same issue. Just because you're not experiencing it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It's nice that your little bubble is all rosy, but mine isn't.

Regardless if Apple improves on an idea and makes it better than the original implementation, It's still copying. That's like saying Timmy and Jack both cheated off of Bob, and while Timmy aced his test, even surpassing Bob's score. Jack was only able to scratch out a middling C, so therefore we're going to reward Timmy (giving Bob no credit) and label Jack a cheater. You see how asinine that sounds?

Everybody copies everybody but because Apple fans feel like their implementation is the holy grail of smartphones, it's okay.

I buy from both camps (note 3 & iPhone 5s) and swear allegiance to none. I don't subscribe to none of this fanboy crap on either side. Just like I called Samsung out when they introduced a lagfest galaxy S4, I'll do the same with Apple.

Take your fingerprint properly

If you follow closely when taking your fingerprint and get a good print as instructed it works flawless. When you get the "try again", that means it's doing its job based on the copied fingerprint you setup. It is sensitive. I try to hold the phone the way I would when I push the home button on a daily bases. This seems to work very consistent!
Good Luck!

Apple is in less denial than people give them credit for. Jobs and others within the company have often said they aren't first with an innovation, they just spent time trying to work at ways to make it work better (in their eyes).

I am not defending Apple's mimicking, or supposed copying of other technologies, however, they aren't as arrogant as some detractors portray them to be.

I tried that on numerous occasions. At first I started out with only 2 prints but from every possible angle, then I added the same fingers to increase the scope of the print so it would recognize my thumb in any position. I've also tried to set it up and use it the same way every time, placing my finger in the same angle and manner. Initially it always works great, but over time, it might fail once then it'll go through. Then it'll fail a few more times and then go through. Until it fails to the point where it asks me to input my passcode. Sometimes I just slide to unlock to passcode because I already know it's coming after a couple of fail trys, then wash, rinse, repeat the entire cycle again until the next time.

Following the leader is *not* always a bad thing...

Particularly when you choose NOT to implement an Iris scanner :)

Besides, by the way Apple has been having troubles allot with new stuff they want to be first on, I would go with Samsung any day with more sense than "must be first" attitude..

Being first is not always a good thing, as Apple is finding this out the hard way. Then we Apple people who buy them get all cheesed off when it doesn't work, lol .....Least i have more sense.

*rant over*

They are copying Apple

Oh No, they really loved this device

2011-03-23%2B14.19.37.jpg

And thought that its about time they brought something similar to their consumers..They've been working on this technology since they saw the Motorola and it just so happens that they launched technology around 6 months after the Iphone5S lanch which also happened to have a finger print scanner. Its all just a conincidence..Ditto with 64 Bit processors..They had been working on them and it just so happened that apple got their fitst..Apple's usage of that on the 5s had no bearing on Samsung's decision to offer 2 chipsets for the GS5 one of which is 64 bit. To suggest otherwise would be ludacris..

Incidentally all the Apple bashers on this forum are ALSO Samsung note3 owners. What a coincidence ....
Samsung based forums should be very boring lately .... since they are all here to speak about iPhones ....

Nah, not an Apple basher, just not an Apple worshiper.

Frankly, I just like all tech in general and don't see a need to stay loyal to one group. In the long run, you end up cheating yourself.
