Samsung Bean LOL! Now there's a great name for a product, so much better than the "Airplay" name. And it only comes installed with Android 2.3. Remind me again how many Android phones come with ICS installed. I know, I know it's the phone manufacturers controlling the OS version. But still how long would someone have to wait to get ICS for the Bean, 1 month, 2 months, 6 months. Let me guess it's coming soon. Man that name, Bean.

There is no big difference between 2.3 or ICS, and about 90% of all Android 2.3 phones will get ICS because open source community will do them if manufacturers wont. Good example is 20+ million sold SGS i9000 and it runs ICS smoothly although Samsung has not released official version at all.

I have never even touched iPhone in my life. And I am glad. It seems to change people. And I dont mean for the better.

very well said. Samsung just doesn't cut it when they try to design or innovate. Thinking about that Beam phone and the new tv 8000 something *shudder*

Really? You think design and innovation is just about what you can buy in a store?

Samsung have been designing and innovating in many areas (because they are a vast company) for decades. Manufacturing, commercial hardware, telecoms, engineering ... areas where Apple doesn't even attempt to work in.

And you act as if Apple have a 100% track record with successful design ideas. They don't.

of course they do, Samsung makes the best screens in the industry. They're also the only other company out there big enough to supply Apple with quality parts in large quantities in a cost effective way.

"Man up", did you really just write that? Who uses that any more. Not to worry, Apple is establishing precedence by going after the Android device manufacturers first which can be used later against Google. I see Motorola was a great acquisition for Google.

So why is apple suing samsung about look and feel of outer casing? that was part of the 1st lawsuit filed against samsung.

LTD - even if Samsung was JUST a supplier - they still have innovated and maintain the best QA for the components they produce. That's no small potatoes - yet you just want to call them B*****.

They are. That's the nature of suppliers. Nothing wrong with that. It's just the position they occupy in the relationship. But no one said it wasn't lucrative being Apple's whore.

I wonder if it makes business sense, not to supply the new screen to Apple for Samsung..

They means.. "oops. No ipad for foreseeable future", and Samsung can announce their own tablet with better display..

I pre-ordered ipad 3, but I'd cancel if this becomes the reality...

I doubt they would do that.. but just saying..

Some whore who sells more phones than apple. AND makes better phones in some aspects.

The FB's can say whatever they want, but Samsung makes the best displays in the world. If you want the best iPad, you're about stuck using Samsung.

so true. Samsung have been, and are becoming more and more "the screen people", stick to what you're good at.

Not necessarily. Apple can still get their chips in someways albeit at a reduced quality and/or quantity. They might not get Retina in time, but eventually LG and Sharp will supply them, and probably CMI in the future at some point. If you want a more "essential" supplier, Qualcomm could be argued to be in a better position than Samsung.

On the other hand, without Apple there simply is no demand for Samsung for the massive amount of components. Without iOS, there would've been no 40 million+/year tablet market.

If Apple was that easily replaceable as a client, Samsung would've done that a long time ago. Don't forget that Samsung gave a higher priority to Apple over their own mobility department for the production of chips, which should tell you how important Apple is to Samsung.

Apple is about $7 billion of Samsung's $!50 billion in annual revenue. It would put a dent in Samsung's bottom line but by no means would it seriously hurt the company.

Invented? Nah. Designed? Absolutely. That makes all the difference. Suppliers are suppliers. I don't see why Apple can't have an entire harem of supplier-b*tches working for them. Though apple is moving toward greater self-sufficiency.

This industry needs Apple to make great things out of all the materials out there.

So Apple designed the retina display, Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge processors, Gorilla Glass, SSD, hdd, RAM, Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, etc. Wow. Now that is impressive.

so true. Samsung have been, and are becoming more and more "the screen people", stick to what you're good at.

RAM? A4? A5? SSD?

Apple should stick to what they are good and not go around suing the entire world. I really liked apple until they started suing everyone. Now I try to think of alternatives to apple when I can.

I know that it's been said several times already that few would like to see samsung come up with a retina display but don't they already have a 2560x1600 resolution 11.6" tablet in a 10.1 form factor waiting to be released with dual/quad cortex A15 based Exynos 5 in the first half of 2012?

As for these high resolution displays, they've been showing up at trade shows for quite a few years now. Same way samsung has been showing up the flexible amoled screen for few years. Technology is there but there are other things to consider such as production cost, underlying hardware etc before bringing it out to the mainstream

Here are few examples of outrageous technology showcases

Toshiba 6" 2560x1600 resolution screen: http://technabob.com/blog/2011/10/20/toshiba-2560x1600-resolution-display/

In other words, not that many Android devices are supported by the manufacturer with ICS and may never. Every two year old Apple device officially runs iOS 5.1. Heck even the 3 year old 3GS officially runs iOS 5.1. And there is no jailbreak necessary to do it.

I have never even touched iPhone in my life. And I am glad.
Your loss if you are not opened minded enough to see the world in anything other than Android colored glasses.

I use Android and Windows phones at work every day, included the latest Galaxy Note that has ICS officially installed on it. I based my decision on owing the iPhone from my experience with using each type of device.

IMO, Apple provides the best user experience and software support. This is the reason why I will continue to buy Apple products and have done so for many years.

I can pick-up my iPad, my iPod touch or my iPhone and the experience is consistent across all devices. I know what to expect. With Android it is a mess. Some phones scroll side to side, others scroll up and down. Some have a file browser installed and others don't. The list goes on. And don't get me started on all the unwanted applications that automically start and re-start with Android 2.X. Yea, I can root the phone to stop that but that is a ridiculous requirement.

It seems to change people. And I dont mean for the better.
LOL! Oh wait you’re talking about the iPhone. I know a lot of people that own iDevices and they are all very nice people, even the ones that used to own Android devices and now own Apple iDevices. The implication that you trying to make can also apply to Android users.

Samsung does not report handsets SOLD only handsets SHIPPED which includes dumb phones. SHIPPED /= SOLD. Samsung didn't even SHIP more phones than Apple SOLD last quarter.

His comments about not having a big difference between ICS and GB is completely false. For the first time outside of the OEM customization, android is leveraging GPU for 2D operations. That alone is a huge jump. Not to mention the jump from API level 9/10 to API level 15

As for user experience, you make it sound as if customization is a bad thing. In fact, you can make your phone, tablet, media player looked the same or completely different depending on usage

As for apps, apps crash on both platforms.

So why is apple suing samsung about look and feel of outer casing?

I really liked the part where the judge held up the Samsung Tablet and the Apple iPad and asked one of the Samsung attorneys which was which, to which the reply was they couldn't tell one from the other.

I was talking about unwanted applications auto starting and restarting even though I try to kill them off.

Of course apps can crash for whatever reason regardless of the OS.

You make it impossible to take you seriously. At all. Especially with statements like the above which are just ludicrous.

So you trust judgment of lawyers about gadgets? Sure some may know but I bet most don't know much.

And try this.
Walk into any Bestbuy store. Look at the display of TVs, cover up name of maker on the front, and try to figure out which is ones come from which maker. Not many can. Let alone lawyers.

One more thing.
ipad = 4x3 aspect
galaxy tab = wide aspect

And I still don't understand how that explains what apple is trying to do, sue android device makers to get at google? why don't they just google directly? the legal fights against device makers will drag on, as it has already, and market share of of android meanwhile has shot up.

Yup. Some people get way too attached to a brand.

Me? I'm an iOS user for life, and I'll probably never buy an Android phone. Why? Cuz I'm locked into the Apple ecosystem, and would have to rebuy all my damn apps if I made the switch.

Samsung is Apple supplier, you, on the other hand, are an Apple whore.

I hate to call you out on this one but how are you using ICS on the Galaxy Note? Its currently running Gingerbread with an ICS update due.

It's difficult to compare OS updates between iOS and Android, and it's certainly not possible to claim that all iOS devices run the same software.

For example, the same iOS version number can act totally differently on different devices. Some got MMS, some not. Some gained multitasking, some not. Some got Siri, most not. And so forth. The version number can be quite meaningless when it comes to major features.

Whereas iOS versions give or don't give some basic features to various models, ALL Android versions already have the basics like multitasking and are thus more about speed and looks.

Samsung does not report handsets SOLD only handsets SHIPPED which includes dumb phones. SHIPPED /= SOLD. Samsung didn't even SHIP more phones than Apple SOLD last quarter.

Apple also reports shipments.

At this point in time, shipments pretty much equal sales for everyone.

I only buy the best. And lots of it.

Haha, and the best iDevices are pretty much impossible to make without samsung parts... And on top of that Samsung makes smartphones that are just as good or even better than iphones. Even engadget said so about Galaxy S2. And same with galaxy nexus.
