We know that digital crowns aren't new. Are rotating bezels? I swear I've used them on watches before. Isn't this similar to the Nest thermostat and even the iPod click wheel?

Apple has this waiting for a future release. Theres no doubt about it. They could release a few different models at anytime they choose. My thought is when competition takes their market share or when/if fashion turns it nose down at the watch, thats when they will release the other models they designed.

Samsung's implementation of the rotating bezel will more likely be diver watch style bezel than ipod click wheel.

While I definitely think the rotating bezel isn't copying, the UI could be a little more original.

Round UIs are round. Apple did not invent those. Don't even get me started :)

And look, text is cut off lol

So what. It can happen on any shape watch. So you scroll up.

Next, you'll be mocking 38mm Apple Watch owners for having texts and menus cut off in comparison to their 42mm siblings:

Again, that's what scrolling is for. No big deal. No reason to lol.

Not sure how much of a good idea this will be, if they can pull it off then it could be amazing. Its just the third picture pretty much sums it up for me, text being cut off because of the circular design.

Oh...so now Apple invented anything that goes around? I am sure rotating bezels on a watch existed long before the ipod....

Samsung is not Google.

Would Google [Nest] sue Samsung over user interface IP? Probably not. This assumes that Nest had patents for the dial interface in the first place. I don't know if they did or not.

Just pointing out that a ring dial is not a new thing.

iPods also used a similar UI.

I got my sPhone7, Samsung Watch, and sPad. I will be using Samsung Pay to purchase items at Best Buy. #ThingsiSheepWouldMockinglySay

Ugghhh... yes, Samsung has copied Apple in the past. We know that. Get over it. Just like Apple has copied and flat out stolen ideas, UI, apps and concepts in the past (I can list a ton of things Apple has stolen from Cydia developers, M$, Google, and BB). Get over it.

The rotating bezel on a smartwatch is Samsung's. They have thrown patents at this and the only ones agressively building it. And while I wish it was another company doing it, I still give kudos to Samsung for their effort. Just like the edge screen and multiple running UI's to use those screens.

yes, but rotating bezels on watches and dials on thermostats performed very analog functions and weren't used for navigating menus.

Audi's MMI would be another example of digital dial interface.

yes...but the rotating bezel on watches and thermostats WAS the UI.....
it was used to control a device and it became the UI and it did control functions and menus.

Newsflash

They have copied each other over the years..
yep and we have all benefitted from it!

I don't know, it's not that big of a deal. I have the moto 360 and text is fine. there is nothing wrong scrolling up. Typically you have to scroll up anyway.

Text gets cut off all the time on square watches. You have to scroll up. Or did you not know thats how it works on a Smartwatch UI?

Samsung Stike again...

Why do people pick out my comment out of all the others. I never win the lottery but I win the lucky dip on macrumors non-stop.

Note to self: be careful with your replies.

In answer to your question, I saw the text getting cut off on the left hand side, but I'm sure I'm just wrong.

When I get an email or text, the title is perfect and easy to read. If there is still room on the opening card, text continued but may be cut off, on both the side and bottom. Does it matter if it is cut off on both the sides and the bottom, versus just the bottom? You still have to swipe up to see the full thing.

With Apple Watch, you just have to do a lot more swiping to see the same amount of text.

Well I just turn the digital crown to see more text. I know what your saying, I said it looks interesting.
