I wish Samsung would make an OLED TV that wasn't gigantic and expensive like LG's offerings. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
They made a 55" (not gigantic, but not small) OLED TV back in 2013, but it was close to $9k for a 1080p panel.

New 4k models are supposed to be coming out for 2017. (I'm referring to panels under 65")
I haven't seen anything for this year though. I believe they stopped production of the 1080p TV panels.

Like Samsung? So that we can have a buggy, laggy, crashy piece of sh*t?
Right, because putting in a great display, large battery, more RAM, smaller bezels, and a new body redesign really make the phone laggy.

He was talking about instead of Apple putting in a couple new things every year and saving some for the next phone, to make all those great improvements now instead.

I think Samsung exited the OLED tv business, which saddens me. I love the way OLED TV looks. I just don't want the sheer size of LG's offerings (smallest is 55"). Of course, it's also expensive!

I was one of the people who said "I'll never buy Samsung again" after my experience with Samsung 3D TV and blu-ray player. Then I bought a 4K Panasonic TV. And immediately returned it ... (a 4K TV that won't play 4K off its USB port? What?) ... and bought a Samsung 4K. It's like Samsung is the worst ... apart from all the others.

I perceive* the bulk of us are pretty anti-Samsung but they do make great screens. I hope these other guys can make OLED screens as good when both are ending up in iPhones and presumably iDevices. Based on the past when screen orders were split for Apple hardware, there were many threads full of screen issues -> device returns -> "I hope I get the Samsung <screen> this time."

*Edit: swapped my original "know" for "perceive" to better reflect my own gut feel about collective sentiment due to pushback. Apparently, per pushback, feelings against Samsung have moderated since the days of "Die Samsung Die" and "I'll never buy another thing made by Samsung" and similar.
Not sure about 'the bulk', but definitely 'some on MR'..... Even the most ardent Samsung-hater on here must concede that Samsung definitely makes great components. One of the reasons of course Apple uses some of these components. (That 950PRO m2 form-factor NVMe SSD is a screamer, and I for one hope it'll end up in their higher-end laptops).

I believe it was more some of Samsung's business antics that turned certain people off.

As long as they do something about the colour on those amoled displays, Samsung phones look horrifically oversaturated.
You can tell someone has no experience with current amoled displays which can switch modes and even look 100% natural if you want it that way.

I don't really mind what screen technology is in the phones as long as it is good enough to compete with the best screens out there and does not compromise somewhere where it matters.

Hi,

Apple Engineer speaking here. We are working on it and we will not disappoint you. As a first step we are going to put 2GB RAM into this beast. And its going to be thinner too!

/s

Sir Ive speaking here.
I designed next iPhone to be 30% thinner than the 6S. You have to make a miracle and still deliver the same battery life.
Oh, I think 2GB are overkill for the new iPhone, I'd focus on some new icons on the lock screen and stickers for iMessage.
Now excuse me but I have a secret meeting with Tim to talk about some new exciting watch bands

However OLED has made progress and has reduced or eliminated these issues (look at galaxy s6 display). So now (or last year) is when I would have considered OLED to be the "better" display technology.
[doublepost=1467225611][/doublepost]

I defended Apple in the past when they chose to stick with LCD but technology evolves and now it is time to switch to OLED.
They introduced the Watch last year and of course it was OLED, and now it is time to upgrade the iPhone's display.
I don't really mind waiting till 2017 since I have a 6s, but my next iPhone ought to be OLED so I hope they'll switch as soon as possible

They also have drawbacks like color degradation over time due to breakdown of the organic materials at different rates for each color of LED. I suspect Apple will only switch to AMOLED once the problems have been eliminated (or reduced to a manageable level).

for people who switch phones every two years, I suspect this is not a problem.

Everybody needs to think like you.

One of the great features of AMOLED displays is that they only consume power for the cells that are illuminated. This allows features like Samsung S7's always-on clock and notification icons, which uses very little power vs the full display.

Does it have notification icons? I have an S7 and wasn't aware of this...

It will be hilarious if Apple ignores oled until it fades into irrelevance and implements something different entirely.

But they won' t. The next 3 or 4 years it will be all about oled.
After that, micro led? And perhaps that is the good thing about hon hai/Foxconn acquiring sharp display.
Apple has the tech, the patents, for micro led, and could make a deal with hon hai, cutting Samsung for licensed manufacturing entirely. Micro led will be an apple exclusive. Using Intel(modem) Sharp/Foxconn(display, assembly)and TSMC(soc) for parts manufacturing could give a huge blow to Samsung in the next 3 to 4 years.

I'm just hoping the new iPhone will have a full rgb pixel layout and not pentile. OLED is great but pixel counts and resolution are usually a little misleading.

Well when this price of poo universally wins handset of the year, where does that leave the iPhone 6ss... trailing in the dirt I suspect..

Then it will be just as good as an apple display.:D

Try harder fella, your wind up skills are so much better than this pathetic attempt..

Last 4 years were also about oled, just like 4 years before that.

Find one Independant review that says any iphone screen is superior to the latest galaxy screens and i will give you the most sincere apology for doubting your claims, can't say fairer than that..

@I7guy you seem to have conveniently brushed this challenge under the carpet. Why is that? You know, I know, everyone knows the galaxy handsets have the best screen and boy does it pain you.

Maybe next year apple can buy some of samsungs cast off 2nd tier screens for their flagship devices. Till then enjoy the bang average display you are currently looking at.

Bottom line, I buy what's best for me. That's the only challenge that counts and the only challenge that anybody cares about.

Ha ha ha ha, talk about egg on your face. So you admit the claptrap you have just been spouting is what it is, absolute tosh!!! If you are gonna shoot your mouth off as if you are some air of authority. Be prepared to be called out, or back it up. And guess what, you NEVER back it up, just usually avoid the issue..
The door marked "zero credibility" is that way!!
