I will do that too, I can't speak for him, but I don't watch movies or game....so I guess it won't make any difference in emails or iMessages and i would get better battery life....just a personal preference.

LTPO should mean battery life should be no different than it is now one the pro models. The iPhones this year will also have likely bigger batteries.

In favor of better battery life. My phone is smooth enough already.

Exactly. It just keeps dropping where I live anyway.

Battery life will be no different due to this LTPO panel. Bigger batteries are also likely.

Sure your phone is smooth enough but with 120hz it’s going to be noticeably better.

Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxid, or LTPO, is an OLED display backplane technology developed by Apple.

Samsung phones are not fully manufactured by Samsung.

The processor, modem, sensors are made by Qualcomm & the software is made by Google.

the LTPO display that apple will be using is supplied by Samsung

Samsung has been a key Apple supplier for various parts since the first iPhone. Apple can custom order and also use their own software to tweak things, but the LTPO panel in question is manufactured by Samsung. Samsung is a large company that does much more than just make and assemble phones

Unless these new displays help increase battery life, who cares of they can swipe up and down fast and remain stutter-free? That seems to be the only thing any tech reviewer / YouTuber does to show how beneficial 120Hz refresh is. Does it help when reading an email? Or watching a video or movie, or looking at News or reading MacRumors forums?

I certainly don’t see the benefit on my iPad Pro, which is what I’m writing this on now. I think other brands hyped up 120Hz refresh because they didn’t have much else to offer AND with Android being far less smooth in normal operation, it helped mask some of the stuttering.
On the iPad Pro, the 120hz makes a difference for games and when using the Pencil (improved latency).

The main (and arguably only) reason iPads support 120hz is for the pencil to have the lowest latency possible so it feels natural while drawing. I could see them adding 120hz to the max model if they also come out with pencil support for it, maybe even a small pencil that can be tucked away in the phone like the Samsung note.

The only other benefits are smoother operation/animations/gaming, and removing any motion artifacts from watching 24hz content - neither of which will be worth the (huge) battery hit IMO, even if nice features to have.

Do I still want it? Yup 😂

LG OLED displays for the "non-Pro" models... now that's unfortunate.
Hopefully LG got their sh*t together and are know able to produce above mediocre OLEDs.

5000 mAh battery, 15 hours usage. 🤤🤤🤤 I know I'm dreaming, most likely be closer to 4000 mAh 🤦‍♂️😂

Battery life will be fine, the 3,678 mAh battery in my 12 pro max is more than enough, can hit 10h usage on WiFi easily.

These damn phones are already so good, they are struggling with ideas to make them better. Can't image the benefits of 120Hz are that amazing. The iPhone screen is just so good with great color accuracy, crisp retina resolution, infinite contrast and already smooth refresh rate with "only" 60Hz. They are really grasping as straws trying to make it better.

You will actually notice it most in e-Mails. It's immediately obvious that with 120 Hz, you can actually read the text as you swipe or scroll across the screen. On normal displays, it either gets blurry or it jumps too many pixels every frame. With 120 Hz you can actually read it as it moves by.

For movies it would probably clock down from 60 to 24 frames to save on battery and get rid of those pesky extra frames here and there that make slow sideways camera movements a bit jerky.

If this display tweak is implemented with the current generation X60 QC 5G modem, as opposed to X55 that Apple is currently using in the 12 Pro, it might very well result in an overall battery life improvement.

It's literally baking the bread in the oven and serving it hot. Will Apple have enough time to test and certify these displays?

hey man with their usual cinnamon sprinkles this‘ll be sweet Apple Pie!

and I’m not talking McDonald’s or McDowell’s Apple Pie I’m talking Popeyes hot 🔥!

just below seems to be one a good answer for you
Just scroll through a bunch of thumbnails in the Photos app to see how horrible our current 60hz refresh rates truly are. It's like staring at a freaking strobe light. Personally it bugs the badoodles out of my eyes.

Then scroll through the photos app thumbnails with a 120hz display - it scrolls like ruby on rails. Way way better and way easier on the eyes

suffer from vertigo LOL.
honestly I think will definitely see a big difference not just with scrolling but most importantly with the transitions transitions and I always seem to be too slow one of know that I hope goals because it seems more of a moral alert is when you add songs to the playlist up yet something right dead centre in your face and cover so much of the screen it’s annoying as hell. More importantly we might see better in terms of clarity when it comes to action videos or action movies some of the scenes are so fast that it’s just a blur in your mind or just your conscious mind just seem to just except it and move on for the next visually accurate frame. But a lot of times when you slow down the frame rate on the playback rain that’s when we start to see horrible misses in quality.

I bet the vast majority, if they were not told anything about 120hz refresh would never even know or see any difference. Especially at that size screen, I bet that most...not all that say they see and amazing difference are full of crap. Just like the people that claim to hear the difference in $600 RCA cables.
well if you had ever touched a phone with 120 hz you would not writing these things so you should cut the crap...I am not even going to talk about gaming experience with 120hz...

On MR, a lot of people have already determined that they can no longer use the new iPhone without 120Hz. It's not really about practicality around here as it is about a lot of people chasing tech to stay they have the latest.

120Hz on a small screen isn't going to make any real difference, in my opinion. It's the same with people griping their 6" phone isn't 1080p+ etc.
