Unless these new displays help increase battery life, who cares of they can swipe up and down fast and remain stutter-free? That seems to be the only thing any tech reviewer / YouTuber does to show how beneficial 120Hz refresh is. Does it help when reading an email? Or watching a video or movie, or looking at News or reading MacRumors forums?

I certainly don’t see the benefit on my iPad Pro, which is what I’m writing this on now. I think other brands hyped up 120Hz refresh because they didn’t have much else to offer AND with Android being far less smooth in normal operation, it helped mask some of the stuttering.
Makes certain things easier to see while swiping, such as when going through your photo library or when scrolling through a movie catalog. It’s also useful for those small few who would play video games that make use of it.

Except there's no such thing as pro motion technology. Pro motion is just a marketing term for a refresh rate.

Except there is. It's an adaptive refresh rate. Not a fixed refresh rate. Not a variable refresh rate. Adaptive. It adjusts the frame rate based on need at the time. It can drop as low as 24 hz and push up to as high as that 120.

Do you actually think every part or technology used in a Samsung Device is made/invented by Samsung? Now THAT'S FUNNY🤣
No one thinks that. But people s*** on Samsung all the time, but without them, a lot of Apple's ideas would not come to fruition. You can have the most brilliant ideas and designs in the world. But without "boots on the ground" to make the stuff at a high quality, to fabricate the machines needed to make the stuff, you have nothing.

After using Android phones with 120 hz I can say without hesitation 120 hz on a phone is meaningless while on an ipad there is a difference

I bet the vast majority, if they were not told anything about 120hz refresh would never even know or see any difference. Especially at that size screen, I bet that most...not all that say they see and amazing difference are full of crap. Just like the people that claim to hear the difference in $600 RCA cables.
That's why it would likely be in the Pro series

Just scroll through a bunch of thumbnails in the Photos app to see how horrible our current 60hz refresh rates truly are. It's like staring at a freaking strobe light. Personally it bugs the badoodles out of my eyes.

Then scroll through the photos app thumbnails with a 120hz display - it scrolls like ruby on rails. Way way better and way easier on the eyes

OK THANK YOU.

I don't know what phones you've been using, the difference was instant to me.
There's plenty of comparisons out there that highlight the differences, scrolling is much much smoother, to the point where an iphone looks laggy compared to an android, which is hilarious considering some of the comments by some here.

If you can see the difference on a tablet, logically you'd expect a difference on a phone.

But yeah, stick with 60hz, but surely, for the price you pay, you'd want the best possible right?.

After throwing my iPhone into the sea a few weeks back I now use an Inphone. I admit it's quite old, but the fact it's still working is an utter joy. To my ears, the audio fidelity is pretty good as well. This one was made in Newport.

I'm sure I've used one of those before

120hz? I’m still doing fine with my iPhone 7 Plus’ display. Sometimes wish I had a bit more resolution, but there still isn’t anything that’s made me want to upgrade... Maybe if they manage to get Touch ID in?

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly will a 120Hz refresh rate change?

Not much except maybe for games that can maintain anywhere close to 120fps. Scrolling won't make a difference, for example, like in Safari since it only uses 60Hz and scrolling speed is slowed down to give appearance of smoothness (sort of like vsync on) vs flickability.

lol yeah seriously it will be even smoother on oled than on iPad as well so I fail to see how one can’t tell the difference. Once people use 120hz they won’t be able to go back to 60hz

I have no idea why anyone would hate this. It's the one feature I miss the most on Android is feeling like my display speed was dipped in butter.
even when scrolling through the Home Screen the iPhone does feel sluggish in comparison to the iPad and previous android devices.
