It'll have a higher resolution than the AVP and a bigger visual field (or whatever you call that).
It'll be the same resolution as the play for dream and FOV, so it won't be a big difference, especially with the M5 and the 10% added pixels the problem is that Snapdragon processor will cause a lot of lag especially if this thing did have a super high resolution, it couldn't handle it

Apple wasn’t the first with a vr headset lmaoooooo

Ok? There’s no other product that works or looks like it. Now Samsung is just gonna make a carbon copy of it because they have no ideas and no taste.

Can Samsung do like, anything, without copying it from Apple?
Maybe the many oled screens in iphones? Monitors? Washing machines? Foldable phones? Fridges? Actually VR as well? TV’s? And many more products. Samsung actually makes a lot of products of high quality, much more than Apple will ever do.

I'm not sure about the high quality part. I had a family member who had 2 Samsung fridges break and flood their kitchen before they switched brands to something else

Specs don’t tell the entire story

”Better” specs does not mean the experience will be better than the AVP…Apple has proven time and again that software/hardware integration is far more important than numbers on a label

A that can also be said about a price. Yes you can build the best out there, but if it's too expensive then it's not a good product

I remember getting a free samsung GEAR VR via redemption when i bought my S7.
It was actually pretty neat.

I'll be interested if Samsung give this one out for free too :)

By rushing to market upon hearing rumors, just like they did within Galaxy Gear or whatever rubberized trash they rushed out with a camera on it
You're kidding right?

The mental gymnastics to try and claim Samsung stole the idea of a thin phone from Apple. When the rumors of the Apple one were first seen, Samsung's already had to have been in development. Neither company stole it in reality.

You may as well credit Apple with creating the folding phone as well, when they release theirs in 2026.

Umm .. are you joking?

Have you read any comments about Android or Windows from Apple users?
It doesn't even take one minute, let alone 5, for exactly what you're describing to take place.

Terms like "lagdroid" and "Windoze" are but the tip of the iceberg.

This goes both ways, 100% of the time.
This is very ironic coming from you. :)

Yes, Samsung is famous for never copying, stealing trade secrets, and getting sued and losing. That's sarcasm.

Please talk in good faith or do not reply.

Samsung isn't always first. They let their competitors beta test until they see the time is right then when they do it they do it right.

Isn't that always the excuse people use when Apple copies Samsung?

Continued is a stretch.
They are continuing to produce and sell it-- it's continued. That's fact. Calling it dead is simply wrong, and anticipating its death based on vague speculation is the stretch. Anticipating it based on Gurman's speculation is folly.

@G5isAlive

Care to elaborate why you disagree?
I don't think the Apple device is an overall success, so perhaps the Android side can make a case to drive more uses and such.

That said, I have no interest in something like this, need something like my regular glasses / sun glasses with ability to give small details on things I am looking at, or show me directions. I don't really want a massive tanning mask.

Sure. Once I figured out what you were asking. I disagree that Samsung will deliver more than Apple on such a device to drive more use cases. Their tablet hasn’t. Why do you think their headset will. I found your comment disingenuous when you resorted to mocking the AVP as a tanning mask which it clearly is not. A headset and glasses are two different glasses for two different things, but thanks for sharing your preference.

Samsung is irrelevant. This lives or dies with Google. You can bet they want other hardware makers making headsets. Will it catch on? It’s a money loser for meta. But competition is essential for avp and content. It’s all good news for avp owners for now and early days.

Fair points and thanks for sharing!

I listen to quite a few podcasts and follow the Alternatives to Apple Devices forum on this site. One of the biggest downsides of the AVP is the lack of games, and other non professional forms of entertainment that many people enjoy with these types of devices on other platforms.

It feels like Apple is pushing to make this segment more of a productivity tool (which I FULLY support), however the adoption by customers and even devs is just not there yet. Once you are done with whatever application you are doing for productivity, your entertainment options are best resolved using competitive devices that cost significantly less.

Like with iOS, I strongly feel that good competition on the Android side will push things to the next level and make the AVP less of a mockery, and more of a respected piece of technology that even more see value in having.

I would love an AVP, especially to have multiple monitors and large space during my frequent flights, but there is just not much else there, and the cost to enter this market (under Apple) is too hard to justify.

Sure.
Samsung has even Smart rings. They have so many foldables.

Cant wait Apple to copy Samsung years later and call it revolutionary.

Copying or not, competition is needed for meaningful advancement. The iPad, for example, would have been much further along at a much faster rate if someone else could have just done a decent job of copying it.
Same thing for the iPhone and yet MR posters have a mountain of criticism of being behind.
