It's got an 800mhz processor but multiple hands on demos are already describing lag ruining the experience....what gives?

The video of it on Engadget is just awful. The interface stutters at every gesture.

This will go down the same path as Android smartphones have gone. The terrible battery life will force them to have to use bigger batteries which they will cover up by increasing screen size. I can't wait for next year's Galaxy Gear S Note II with 4" screen.

Terrible battery life? I just switched to an S4 from 4S. It blows away the iPhone's battery.

Gonna love seeing the amazing quality pictures of everyones waist.

Tulisa's got it sussed...

One day battery life? No thanks.

I won't get something like this until we are talking 2~4 weeks battery life.

I mean I'm most likely carrying a phone when I have my watch on me- it would be smart to have the phone do the processing via bluetooth 4.0. There is no need for so much space and processing power on board the watch.

If no phone near by just go into a low power watch mode or something.

Yet another example of someone else doing it first, then Apple coming along and doing it right.

The design is better than it seemed from the leaked pics, but battery life is a bit rubbish.

In all, I think they've set the bar low for Apple; There was nothing jaw dropping in that introduction...

RTP.

I think Samsung has the wrong angle. It just replicates and/or extends the functions of a phone. I expect Apple will feature a lot of fitness/biometric features that the iphone doesn't do directly, at least not without companion apps and not in a smart or automated way. I wouldn't be surprised if they have some sort of kinetic charging either-- something normal wrist watchers already do to avoid the need for winding.

What do you expect? Samsung does not have anything to copy from... ;)

Trust Samsung to rush out another half-baked product just because they think that's what Apple is doing whilst putting no thought or effort into design or functional. Laggy and basically no battery life? Plus it looks so uncomfortable on the wrist and it didn't need a camera. Good one, Samsung.

My 800MHz phone with Android only cost me $80, and refurbished it's $40. It had more pixels too and a MicroSD slot.

I'll stick to my iPod Nano. It tells me the time, and it counts my steps. Plus it was less than $200.

And I only charge it once a month.

Why would I want a watch that is useless without a phone nearby? I want to carry *less* gear around, not *more*.

Really Samsung? This is what you came up with?

Too pricey, bulky, laggy and crap battery life... total concept fail.

And what's with the camera on the strap?

Ok Apple... ball is in your court.

Whatever Apple comes out with will not be a smartphone on your wrist like this thing is. It will be a new device that combines multiple things into something you won't want to leave home without. From NFC, health monitoring, connectivity and other features along with a design that doesn't look like a watch (I mean seriously, it was SOOOO obvious what Samsungs watch was going to look like).

Ming Chi Kuo... is that you?

Visible screws? We finally have use for the "Steve wouldn't have" phrase. :D

Seriously, this is why we don't have a smart watch/wearables device from Apple yet. They would never release one that got a day (or less) battery life. Seems to me Samsung rushed something out because they were bound and determined to have something on the market before Apple.

Judging only on it's aesthetics, I'm not liking it. It looks too, I dunno, industrial.

I believe it will become a new fashion icon around the world

I do not see this happening at all. But, who knows, maybe it will.

Epic Fail.

....
I mean seriously, it was SOOOO obvious what Samsungs watch was going to look like

I agree 100%.

However, when Samsung fans talk 5 years from now about 'copying'... they'll mention today's date, and Apple's date in when they come out with the iWatch.

It won't matter that this current Samsung watch will fail, and that Samsung will redesign it to match Apple's new design.... this is pretty much what happened in the Android world. Android was 'technically' first, iPhone came out, and Android copied to match the full-screen touch-screen.
