Yet another example of someone else doing it first, then Apple coming along and doing it right.

Well - Samsung isn't/wasn't first with the Smart Watch. Unless you are only considering this a two horse race.

Joke of the highest order. Camera hump on wristband looks idiotic. Samsung blows it again. This plus the new leather backed Note 3 = huge fails.

I thought the Verge said it was faux leather? Perhaps Samsung hired Scott Forstall? :D

It's too bad that Samsung didn't think to 'Think Different' with this idea. I don't like Samsung electronics (though their TVs are fine). But I think I was hoping for something more here.
For me this is a fail.

Of course it lags it likley runs android on a 800mhz cpu with 512mb of ram. If it ran iOS it would actually be smooth especially since it doesn't really even have much in the way of functionality. I mean it likley has about the same specs as a 3gs and that would run this limited functionality like butter

The camera is not a terrible idea... but you could just twist your hand and use a front facing one and it'll filp the picture.

The side facing one is not going to help composition is it when you lift it up to eye level, or higher to lose to double chins... you have to hold it a ugly low chest/belly angles.

As for the rest of it. It's Ugly as sin, Huge and Styled like a 1980's casio.

I am just so happy they have screwed it up :)

1 week battery life would be ideal at this point, but 1 day is just pathetic.

Would Samsung really sell such a product to their own friends and family, and feel good about it?

Just been watching the live stream from Berlin, the Galaxy Gear certainly looks very impressive if a little bulky. I hope the rumoured iWatch isn't too far away.

Suddenly, a lot of men will check their watches in front of cleavages.

Why does a watch need a camera? Especially if you're going to have a smart phone on you.

Also ONE DAY of battery life?

As a watch lover, I have been waiting for a smartwatch that I like. Samsung has some great features but I wouldn't put this fugly thing on my wrist.

I was just watching the Samsung event, and their Note III has some cool features. The new, I think it's called draw box feature is pretty cool, but I wouldn't want such a large device in my pocket.

A smart watch should not have speakers or a camera. It should have vibration and a microphone. Much, much less power and you can do a lot. Talk to the watch, it sends to Siri or whomever on your phone, then responds on the watch screen.

I agree 100%.

However, when Samsung fans talk 5 years from now about 'copying'... they'll mention today's date, and Apple's date in when they come out with the iWatch.

It won't matter that this current Samsung watch will fail, and that Samsung will redesign it to match Apple's new design.... this is pretty much what happened in the Android world. Android was 'technically' first, iPhone came out, and Android copied to match the full-screen touch-screen.

Yep they will..but we'll have pictures to do the comparison of their watch to then Apple's watch and then their watch after Apple's watch.

Just like we have the iPhone and iPad comparison pictures before and after.

Why the camera? That is one of the weirdest things about this design.

I mean it had to be paired with a tab or android phone so it's not like you couldn't just use that considering you will have it with you.

I like the idea of a smartwatch but this missed the point.

I thought it looked pretty sweet, until I saw the 1 day of battery and price. $200 is the price I was hoping for, maybe after a couple generations?

Also: The market is severely limited with compatibility for only recent Galaxy Devices.

Macrumors now looks like almost any Android forum after launching first iPhone or iPad. "It's terrible! Nobody need it! Just 1 day battery life!"

Well, at least we all know what happens a bit later. But this similarity is really hilarious! :D

Geez...

I don't wear a watch for two simple reasons:
1. I hate having anything on my wrist. It feels funny, constrictive, and makes my wrist sweaty.
2. If I need the time, well, my iP5 has it, and it adjusts to time zone changes as I travel.

Now Samsung, and, probably soon, Apple will have smart watches. So why won't I buy either of their products? See item 1 and 2 above.

I just flat out don't get it. But a friend of mine who is heavily intertwined in the VC community in the Silicon Valley said to me "Women will targeted to drive the market as a trendy accessory, in multiple colors".

This is what happens when Samsung has nothing to copy from and they come out with this...haha the next big thing.
