And everyone that bought a galaxy gear hates Samsung even more now.

Like the people that bought an iPad 3 and then an iPad 4 comes out a short time later with the specs that the 3 should have had initially? But since it was Apple nobody was upset? This happens all the time in many industries, especially fast paced ones like electronics.

already??

They must not have much faith in their products to replace them every 4 or so months

Or maybe they improved it so they put the new model for sale instead of having an inferior product on the market for no reason? Just a thought.

A lot of people were upset about that. What are you talking about?

They look like the watches in the quarter cascade at the laundromat. They certainly don't look like the future.

To me this quick release of the Gear 2 confirms that Samsung is responding to what Apple might release.

The Gear 2 must have been nearing production when the original Gear was rushed out to counter a possible Apple iWatch.

Just more of a reason to avoid this. The Gear 3 is probably nearly ready for production. Feels like Samsung is just throwing a bunch of cr*p at the wall to see what will stick.

I totally agree!

Samsung has the company resources to react quickly to any rumors floating around and it seems, they like pay special attention the ones regarding :apple:

Still, the whole Gear thing: pathetic. A laughable product, really. Has anybody benchmarked it yet? For sure it will shine :p

Do you really think so? Samsung releasing 2 watches while Apple has none?

Not me, honestly. I bought the iPad 3 and was amazed about the Retina Display. When the iPad 4 was released, my iPad 3 still worked as before and was a decent product. The Gear 1 one the other hand, was and still is a piece of cr... :p

As far as I'm concerned all these smart watches are solutions looking for a problem. I don't see the killer app or must have aspect of these devices. It's like someone decided the 'next big thing' in tech is wearable so everyone is now rushing some sort of wearable device to the market. And of course Apple is doomed for not joining the rush.

This doesn't really thrill me, nor indeed does the idea of an Apple iWatch. Whenever I am forced to wear a tie and/or a watch I feel like I'm being thrown in irons. Yuck....

Sometimes it is maybe better to wait, develop and fine tune something instead of throwing out just it be first. ;)

Come on, in all seriousness, the Gear 1 was a disaster in every aspect. Did it look like a solid, ready for the market product to you?

The second generation is maybe marginally better.

Not everybody is a Apple Fanboy here. To have a balance discussion, Applescruff, we must discuss and admit the shortcomings of Samsung products, too ;)

More likely they rushed the first version to market so the media meme would be that Samsung beat Apple and Google to market. Even now I'm seeing articles about how Samsung beat Apple to market with health tracking device (and I'm sure the same will be said tomorrow when the Galaxy is announced and Samsung has some s-health app on it) even though we have no solid reports on exactly what Apple is working on or when it will be released. But hey if Samsung can get the media to write about how they "beat Apple" (or any other big tech company) then it was worth it.

Whatever shape it will be, is not gonna stop Samy to copy the ***** out of it.

Serious question. How do you make phone calls on something that size (if you do)? Or you use Bluetooth paired earpiece?

Have you ever even tried one of those? It's considerably smaller than your standard cordless phone at home

So... wait!!

When Samsung does it, is called improved.
And when Apple does it: That's how it should have been initially

Genius ;)

Three huge things they improved on:

1) Got rid of that camera hump
2) Improved battery life
3) Got rid of those screws

Now, a starting price that is reasonable will work! From this looks of it, this should have been version 1.

Would I buy this if Apple made it? No.

Good one. Also, Apple seems to have recognised that battery-technology etc. just isn't good enough yet to create usable smart watches. So they're not going to release a smart "watch" in the foreseeable future but a health-monitor. Like Those made by Withings but with better design and probably considerably more functionality. That'll be something you'll want to wear in addition to your watch. Watch on your left hand, the iThing on your right.

Smart watches won't take off until you can fit great usability into a tiny device - and we're just not there yet. Samsung seems to think it can squeeze it in somehow - and are failing miserably. Can't blame them for trying, but this is typical for Samsung: flood the market with crappy products, throw their entire marketing budget behind it and after a couple of years, when the technology has finally caught up, they're the number one mass-market player. I'm hoping they'll change that strategy with the Galaxy S5: the S4 has some great gadgetry built-in, none of which was really thought through or put to work for real-work applications. If they manage to concentrate on the good stuff (like health-monitoring, eye-tracking to keep the phone on while people use it etc.) and leave away all the rest, they could come up with a truly great and fast product. If they cram in even more BS, the S5 will be another cheap mass-market phone will a lousy UI.

If they take the time and think things through, they are very much capable of coming up with great products (like the N3, which is an innovative, solid, fast business phone / phablet - that one was a bit Apple-like: they created a market for it and it's really taking off).

I agree. Just think about the hundredsof TV set models Samsung already released responding to iTV that Apple might release.

Samsung has had a health app on their smart phones for a while now. I have it on my Galaxy Note 3. I do not use it. I do not think many people use it. I do not believe many people will care about Apple version of this either.

Being completely honest, I never did more than glance at the Gear watch. I never laid hands on it. Maybe if I owned a Samsung phone, I'd be more interested. And you are correct about the balanced discussion, thank you. It's nice to see that there are still some reasonable people here. :) Both sides have their extremes.

Considerably smaller?

This is my home cordless phone. Now I agree that if you include the base, it may be bigger then the Galaxy Note 3. Just the handset with out the base, not even close.

I have not tried them but I have seen people using them.

I'm being serious here, why does everyone hate on the watch so much? I've been using a Galaxy Gear watch for months and I love it...
