Apple doesn't focus on being first to market, their aim is: best in any market they enter.
"Best" of course is from their point of view, not mine, or necessarily yours.
Also I've heard that AirTags have been ready for a while to launch, but with most people spending so much time at home it's not really "worth it" to release now. Who knows if that's true or not.

Very nice.
Love the fact that it does not need a case, and it's got the corner to directly fit onto a keyring/chain/cord.
Also top marks for the use of a CR2032 battery. Pretty much THE most standard battery you can get as this same battery had been on every PC motherboard for the past few decades, and also the same battery used in engineering measuring equipment.

Look forward to hearing how well they work in the real world, but from what's been shown so far.
Top marks Samsung for now....

Well, they had to beat apple to it. Now they got a rather clunky-looking product that doesn't use UWB-technology and can only be mounted via a cutout that looks like it might break some day, but is more expensive than the ones from tile (which, to be fair, don't use other devices for tracking as well. but that's probably because there's no open api yet from apple or android for this function). why, samsung?

whenever someone says "Samsung doesn't copy Apple", just point them to this and a bunch of other examples in the past.

Samsung copies Apple. Plain and simple.
Everyone copies everyone! There are a tonne of features that Apple directly copied from its competitors, and likewise for Samsung. Convergence of ideas helps move the tech industry forward.

Sounds to me that these tags, in the hopes of beating Apple to the market, are a rushed product
Better yet, this could simply be a $$$ play; release the BT 5 version that costs less than the UWB version they can sale for more $$$.

I don’t know if a suitcase is the best example. It won’t work in an airport or similar, and who can’t find a suitcase in his home?
EDIT: Okey, I see. Now my concern is about privacy of those phones used as a proxy (same with Apple’s).

Look at the shadow under that suitcase. Goodness that is bad. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more badly-edited stock photo.

So what’s the point lol. You might as well just get Tile.
Bluetooth 5.1 has the ability to give more accurate distance info (and I think also direction from phone to tag?) that would be good to have when loosing things in the proximity.

Perhap it's the other way round? Apple just leak info in a desperate effort to appear to be doing something or occasionally announce things that aren't ready [Airpower]. Tim has to be excited about something in the future; he says so at every keynote.

I love my Tiles. Im excited to see the ”Find Network” that will come with the apple tags and the Samsung tags. Putting one in your suitcase is a great idea actually. Definitely put one on your dog and your child LOL.

"Samsung told The Verge that the SmartTags are only designed to work with Samsung Galaxy devices and are not compatible with other Android phones or iPhones". Samsung's walled garden?

Not entirely well though. Lack of UWB and using CR2032 make it far less compelling. It remains to be seen whether AirTags will be rechargeable, but it will mostly certainly have UWB.
did you hear, no charging brick in their phones? pathetic (not really, but that is what some people said when Apple did it, so back at ya folks!)
