I dont mind the square look...but Im not sure about the front facing camera. I dont really have a care about the camera orientation on the back.

I'm with a poster (or two) above, I've hit a saturation point where a new phone announcement is just, "Oh look, a new rectangle from <insert_brand>", some incremental improvements, no change to my usage models (the most major impact hardware change for me was FaceID, and that was just a different-but-the-same feature). The most interesting thing to me in the last couple of years, was finally forking iOS into an iPad variant that can have its own independent versioning and feature sets focused on using the hardware more effectively.

So it’s a piece of glass with a hole punch. Big deal. People aren’t upgrading phones as frequently because there’s no reason to. The number of people who care about notches, bezels and hike punches is incredibly small.

They are upgrading phones though… its the over-$US1,000 price tags people aren't buying into any more (if they ever really did). And yes, they do care about bezels and notches when they're spending over $US1,000 for it. It's the Apple customer that has convinced themselves of this as I don't know a single person who would opt for a notch when they can get one without (all things otherwise being most equal of course).

But it still runs Google's ****** Android. I avoid most things by Google at all costs.
What's wrong with Android OS?

It is a secure OS although Play Store might contain some malware but when it comes to its core OS its a secure modern operating system that uses sandboxing and user controlled permissions.

You can even use custom ROM like LineageOS and in my case I rooted my device and was able to create an app that lets me create and mount LUKS container and mount them directly to the file system.

Most of us may not like the looks of the sqump (square camera bump) expected in next iPhone but it will be distinctive and recognisable instantly as the new one. Apple knows what they are doing.
I doubt they do. Sales have been dropping constantly to the point where they don’t even bother reporting them officially. They really need to get back to the drawing board and design something truly innovative and actually desirable.

sales around the board are down. Phones the last 3-4 years have been good for people to keep 5 years…
It was never like that back in 2012. Phones where laggy and had issues over time. especially past 3 years. Since the 6S all these phones do whatever you want them to do and they do them quickly.
The only innovation i see lately is the foldable phones.

I may be in the minority here but the iPhone X and XS Max notches have never bothered me. I actually prefer the larger notch against the top edge over the smaller hole that is not against the edge. I am still on the fence about upgrading to the XI this year if the main feature is just the new camera (it depends a lot on exactly what that 3rd camera can do) but I really don't mind the square camera bump at all. I spend zero time looking at the back of my iPhone and because it is a $1,000+ phone, I always have it in a protective case.
