Sure looks like there is a top and bottom bezel. Bezel free means glass to all edges.

No? This always happens. Apple leaks come out and then companies rush to do it first.

The Apple rumours for the iPhone 8 came out when Apple released the iPhone 6, when Samsung actually released these features?

Samsung are copying 2 generations ahead?

You mean like Xiamoi released nearly half a year ago?

Yep. As soon as Samsung read the rumor here at MR, they came out with the bezel free phone. What I find amazing is that it takes years for Apple''s new features to make it to market, yet Samsung reads about it here and voila, a month or two later it is released.

I think you're underestimating how sneaky Samsung are. They're stealing Apple's ideas before they're even rumors.

(eg glossy black, edge to edge bezels... both on the Note 7 before MacRumors even whispered they were coming)

How about you rename this site iPhonerumors' and have a little subsection called 'Macrumors' shunted away on a back page somewhere which can be updated, say, once every couple of months or so... (Apple's fault, not yours)
Any day now, a thread will popup about the upcoming Mac Pro!

Samsung will beat Apple to the punch in next year's smartphone wars by including features in its Galaxy S8 handset that have long been rumored for the 2017 "iPhone 8", such as a bezel-free wraparound OLED screen with a virtual home button embedded in the display.

Bloomberg on Thursday referred in its favored manner to "people with direct knowledge of the matter" who said that Samsung is targeting a March release for the redesigned S8, but that launch could be delayed by about a month as the company adopts tougher testing procedures in the wake of the Note 7 debacle. Apple's smartphone launch cycle usually runs on a yearly September release.

Samsung is understandably wary of the dangers of rushing its smartphone development after quality control reportedly suffered in the company's race to release the feature-rich, but ultimately fire-prone, Note 7.
The bezel-less devices will come in sizes similar to Samsung's 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch S7 Edge models. Samsung is also said to be introducing a "significantly differentiated" voice-activated personal AI assistant in the handsets that will be able to send text messages, make phone calls and manage calendar schedules. The AI technology will come courtesy of Viv Labs, which was founded by the developers of Apple's Siri and acquired by Samsung in October. Samsung is considering scrapping dual-cameras on the S8 due to high manufacturing costs, Bloomberg sources said. According to a separate report, the models will also drop the headphone jack.

Chinese phone maker Xiaomi made a splash back in October by debuting an almost bezel-less display with the Mi Mix "concept phone", boasting a screen that covers 91 percent of the front of the handset. While Xiaomi's limited-availability phone was more a proof of concept than a device ready for the mass market, both Samsung and Apple will be relying on the mainstream appeal of similarly standout features to boost unit sales in a stagnant market short on innovation.

In the near term, Samsung is desperate to bounce back from the impact of this year's Note 7 recall and discontinuation, which could end up costing the company more than $6 billion. The Korean-based firm reported a 17 percent drop in net income in the three months ending September, and has advised investors to expect a multibillion dollar slump in earnings in the December and March quarters as its market share struggles to recover.

As well as a bezel-free OLED display and virtual home button, Apple is said to be readying an all-glass casing and wireless charging for its 10th anniversary iPhone, with the possibility of a new 5-inch premium model and two lower tier aluminum models also in the offing.

No, if Apple introduces only iPhone 7s with a new colour option next year...

Yeah, won't the people at Samsung look like a bunch of fools if they release their version of a redesigned iPhone 8 with a new curved body, thinner bezel, OLED display, integrated button(s) and wireless charging only to see Apple release a 7s that looks identical to the 7 and very similar to an iPhone that came out 3 years earlier. Bunch of fools I tell you.

Yep, sure. That's why the iPhone 7 has the same look as their three year old iPhone 6. That's why they're losing market share rapidly and will be the last phonemaker on the market with an Amoled screen. When their world wide share will dip below the double digits I'm wondering if developers will release or develop for iPhone first. Or release software for the iPhone at all. Apple is famous in bragging about how many customers are updating to the latest iOS compared to android. Compared to devices sold running the latest version android of android and iOS that chart looks completely different in favor of android. Every month it will get harder for Apple.

Yeah, that's my newest concern that developers, especially outside the US, will begin to develop for Android first (if they're not already doing that) and then ask themselves do I really need to develop for iOS?

i know that articles like this don't compute with all the iAddicts out here. samsung (and android in general) have been the ones innovating in this arena for the last 5+ years. apple just copies them, slaps a silly name in front of it, does some big presentation about why it's life-changing, and their fanbase just eats it all up.

Samsung bezels are not as ridiculous as the ones found on an iPhone. Physical hb HAS TO GO on the next iPhone or im jumping the ship. Making an old and boring design red, won't make me stay. Step your game up Jonny...

If that's all it takes to make you jump ship then you aren't worth having. Enjoy your android viruses, malware and exploding phones. Good Riddance.

Why would I lie? If I had issues I would state it

Bluetooth bugs? Mine is fine in my car not sure why it would be an issue

Only issue I've had has been the phone randomly switching off then coming straight back on but it seems to not do that anymore. So maybe thats one bug fix thats been sorted

Firstly how did you get lying from denying? Two different things I think you'll find.
Secondly so these stories never existed in your mind because 'you've' not had any issues they don't exist??

Their are probably lots more articles I could link to...

I've had my 6S and iPhone 7 start dialling a number when connected over Bluetooth, I've had issues with lightning cable connections and music playing, and I've had safari issues even with this website.

It's a buggy mess...

Well no crap the S8 should have a better camera than the iPhone from this year. It would be newer tech.

apple gets pwned? based on what exactly? certainly not when it comes to people's choice when it comes to buying the products.

Current iPhone's camera is already pwned. Since Apple just updated the camera in the 7, the 7s is not likely to change significantly. Even if they do it will only be to catch up with Google and Samsung.

Is a bezel-free design wise? All this edge-to-edge glass seems like it would make the device more prone to shattering if it fell on its sides or corners.

I wish phone makers would concentrate a bit more on durability rather than making everything as shiny as possible.

I personally think the S8 is shaping up to be a nice phone with some big changes. Curious to see what how this plays out. Competition is needed and Samsung seems to be pushing.
Agreed. I'm still sticking with Android and my last year's LG G4, but I wouldn't want to see wither camp resting on their laurels. Whenever someone says "at least Apple product X didn't explode", we've lowered the bar :(

Apple needs to do something about their huge bezels.

Put an iPhone 7 plus next to a Galaxy S7 Edge and the iPhone has a way bigger foot print. Yet, the actual physical screen size is as good as identical.

Wonder who they got that black gloss look from, yawn, Cubs already won the Championship so I guess I'll just have to fall back saying they'll innovate their own ideas when pigs fly.

Well pigs must be flying then! Everyone panic!

(Samsung's had gloss black since last year )

Sounds like you are cursed to have that many issues with one device/software

I certainly have had no issues apart from the phone randomly switching off. The early stages of ios new software will have some issues but by now they should of figured themselves out.

It's still the most stable software out on a phone on the market right now.

The issues people have in their cars is very odd. Even on beta never had any problem at all.

I think Apples implementation of edge to edge screen will be not bezeless. Just like edge to edge MacBooks and edge to edge Apple watches. There's still some bezel.
Looking forward to seeing what designs stick and make it to production.
