Yeah yeah, we've heard this before. What's happens when you rush your phones to market Samsung? Oh yes, exploding batteries. Don't do it again, you'll fail miserably.

rushing? what's so rushed about releasing their product with new features every year, like everyone else is doing in the industry?

Lol so I guess even competitors agree Apple is going in the right direction. Competitors > macrumors forums opinions.

But IOS 10 isn't buggy, your experience don't appear to be the norm. Lag is the one problem I have with android. The performance for me simply isn't as good which is a damn shame as it's damn near perfect apart from these issues in terms of the product.
iOS10 on my iPad AiR has been extremely buggy.

still mostly usable. but I'm having very weird behaviour with my keyboard in particular. I've even tried an OS re-install and the same issues persist

Right now, when my keyboard pops up in Apps, the App's text entry portion doesn't slide up with it, so the keyboard is ALWAYS ontop of entry screens and I can't see whats being typed. There's also a tiny 5 pixel space under the keyboard so the keyboard isn't flush with the bottom of the display.

The multi-tasking is also very buggy. I'll be in Safari with Slack slide over open. Decide to switch to slack as my main display and slack closes completely, then has to reload itself completely just to complete this.

The Notification system seems to also take a step backwards in usability. Especially on a device without touch ID and / or force touch. Clearing notifications that don't group is time consuming effort as it takes multiple steps now. if you clear them from the lock screen, you have to swipe on each one, then click "clear". instead of just swiping to clear. And you can only bulk remove notifications by pulling down the notification page then clearing them by app.

so just because YOU haven't had issues and bugs with iOS10 doesn't mean they don't exist. Trust me. iOS 10 is just as buggy as Android, windows and MacOS. they all just have their own different share of bugs

How dare they copy the bezelless rumor before it was even a rumor, two years ago!

Damn you dastardly Samgung time travelers!

It amuses me, Because "bezeless" design has been the whole industries goal for years. suddenly there's a rumour Apple is doing one, so now everyone else copies apple

Hint to all these crazies screaming "copy!".

Here's a list of existing devices that have gone "bezelless" or at least attempted to achieve that mythical status (Some failed, some were decent, but all attempted to make the bezels as small and invisible as possible)

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
Sharp Aquos (entire lineup)
LG G2 and G3
Oppo R7
LeTV Smartphone
Xiaomi Concept Phone (real phone, you can buy it now)

So this whole "Samsung Copies Apple" "apple copies samsung" is all a bunch of a pissing match. Both Apple and Samsung are going to where the industry has been heading already

So what exactly is the button on my 7 if it isn't virtual?

I don't think a smooth device with zero buttons, with no frame of reference (by touch) is a good idea. I can assume the visually impaired market (which Apple claims to support) woud strongly dislike such a change as well.

Bezel free display AND virtual home button. Meaning it will be the first phone to have BOTH of these features.

I think the best iteration so far was the Note 7. The way the back and front joined, as well as the refraction level on the curve, hit the absolute sweetpost. I suspect that specific version will be on the Galaxy 8 series as a whole.

Huh? How so? Because the iPhone 7 is rumoured to go bezel-free? Or that it is rumoured to go with a virtual home button? Last I checked, Samsung has been gunning for bezel-free display for years. For them, it's just another increment in their display tech. As for virtual home button...if you haven't noticed, a lot of android phones have been going virtual home-buttoned for a while now and Google has been pushing that idea. So how is Samsung doing what everyone else is already doing a sign of following Apple because somehow Apple is going the right way and everyone else is following? Sounds to me like Apple is the one that is trying to follow everyone else...

Apple needs to just do it already and acquire Samsung.

Samsung has total assets, as of 2014 and last full numbers, of US$529.5 billion.

Apple has total assets, as of 2015 and last full numbers, of US$321.686 billion.

Don't be mislead by market capitalisation and share price and that it generates more profit-per-penny spent: Samsung is still a far bigger company. Apple can't buy it.

That's a bit unfair! do they even count? :)

nahhh, The name on it is Xiaomi, not Apple, so it's irrelevant :p

honestly, how can we trust any brand whose name starts with X! it's a whole 22 letters in the alphabet later. So clearly, they copied Apple

Frankly....haven't read all the 7 pages of comments, but I got a good gist of it as well as yesterday's iPhone rumor thread...and I start feeling I'm getting old.

I really don't get all that complaining.

Virtual homebutton (btw I thought the iPhone 7 already had one)...am I the only one who thinks that would be a terrible idea? People need haptics for a reason...think about visually impaired people for example. Again, what is the advantage from a virtual home button that is plane in the screen? Sure, looks cool. But at what cost?

I more and more get the feeling for many (most here?) people it's not so much about innovation itself but about just getting "something - anything really new". And why change something that's already or close to being perfect just for the sake of change?

But again, I may just be getting old...

Err...sorry, I don't think I can ever go back to an actual physical home button. I hate wasted space and a physical home button is just that. Without it, much more space for a screen. Goes away when you don't need it, shows up (lag free) when you do. I see no problems here, only benefits. For the visually impaired, what benefit does a home button do? Sure, you can get to home...but from then on? Frankly, I would think, for those that are visually impaired, advances in Google Now would probably more useful.

Half of America would be wondering how to pronounce the X.

Wow the mobile division is worth 529 billion because Apple wouldn't buy the entire company.

Why would Samsung sell their mobile division? It makes as little sense as Apple selling theirs.

It would only happen through hostile takeover... which Apple couldn't afford at ten times the size.

Mac Rumours should probably change it's name.

I get more info about Samsung from this website than anywhere else.

Not to mention the fact that the Mac line of computers are barely updated these days.

Because there is so much more news coming out of other companies than Apple these days. If it was only about Apple you could check this site once a year to know everything about Apple.

I'm not the one who originated the idea I was merely asking if the mobile division was worth 529 billion as someone suggested.

I'm so happy those Samsung notes aren't reliable. If they were working properly Apple would have taken a bigger nose dive in share. How can Samsung copy Apple if they're first to market with a bezel less and button less phone if Apple is so secretive and all we know about their iPhone 8 is rumors?

I told before with the introduction of iPhone 7. Innovation in phones is taking place elsewhere. Apple already lost this race.

They said "acquire Samsung" not "buy Samsung's mobile division".

There's a common delusion in the US than Apple is the giant of the tech world. I was just pointing out that's not true, and there are many much bigger tech companies, and it's a misunderstanding of what market capitalisation actually means.

Apple is a medium-sized fish.

How is this competition? All of the features listed have been rumored for the next iPhone. Of course, the consumer has been talking about edge to edge design, wireless charging, etc for years. Don't get me wrong. I am not knocking Samsung for the design but it seems like every vendor is looking at the same "innovations". Like the article described, theres a rush to gain "mainstream appeal of similarly standout features to boost unit sales in a stagnant market short on innovation." The "competition" is for new users or those who don't already have a preference. By now, if you're a Samsung/Android devotee', you're sticking with it or moving to another Android device. If you're an iPhone or an Apple disciple you're sticking with an iPhone.
The problem for Apple and Samsung is that folks are figuring out that you don't need a new phone every one or two years. If a desktop or laptop can last 4-6 years so can a phone. I'm still using my iPhone 6. I will probably upgrade to an 8 but I won't be an early adopter because there are bound to be immediate issues.
I don't know where Apple is focusing on the last 4 years. Everyone says Apple is focusing on mobile first and I could agree with that if their mobile devices were cutting edge. It would be more honest if Apple's new mantra would be: money first. Computers from Apple as do iPads and phones don't justify their prices anymore. If you pay premium you expect premium and cutting edge. Not buggy and mediocre.

Google is going to come hard in late 2017 and will the the other big player. 2016 was a push out the door to get a footing. Pixel's big thing is the camera - which is really quite amazing compared to my wife's 6S.
And somehow I'm at the impression that innovation will go faster at google than Apple. It's a pity to come to the conclusion that I lost my confidence in Apple.

Samsung likely trying to copy ideas in hurry. It's like other Chinese mobile companies who are trying to copy designs of iPod, iPad, iPhone and iOS interface. Samsung should not copy
FYi: Samsung is not Chinese.

Beat me by a minute!
It's because you are merely rehashing worn-out jokes by other people. Being original takes some wit/intelligence.

LOL.

Just because they're first to market doesn't mean they came up with it first.

Apple already know what the iPhone 8 will entail and have done for years. They're already prototyping iPhone 9 and 10.

Apple won this race. With their hands tied behind their backs.
