Yawn.
<Rolls eyes>
Still flogging that old horse are we?
It's like saying one car is better than another because it has a cassette deck.

More valid comparison is like removing the car AC. True that the AC might not be used year round but it's nutz to remove it.

If Apple built a car they'd remove the AC and sell you a dongle in the form of a window mounted AC.

I couldn't care less if reviewers a,b, and c liked or disliked the iPhone X or Samsung 9. What matters, is do I like the device for my personal needs and wants? That is truly the only bottom line that matters. And it doesn't matter who thinks what around the iPhone and Android playground called MacRumors.

Arguing subjective opinion as if they were facts (which many of you are doing) is rather pointless.

Justification is found with the person paying the bills.

Do you consider the light bulb ability stale when you turn it on? ;)

Try inventing your own tech and ecosystem and see if the word stale has the same meaning for you.

So we are comparing smart phones to the invention of the light now?

Come on now... lol so I have to invent something profound to have an opinion on this matter?

Nothing will ever be a worthy rival of the iPhone until someone copies iMessages and AirDrop.
I'm surprised how poor every single one of Google's attempts at text messaging were. I think those people don't understand how little the users care for complication when they want to send someone a message.

Competition is good for the consumer, and drives innovation. Keep it up.

All Android phones with Oreo as stock have Project Treble enabled by default.

So that's like, what, 1.1% of the phones in the world (as of Feb 5th, 2018)? In a year from now we might be lucky and see Oreo on 25% of devices. And in 2 years we might hit 50%.

So updates will be faster.

That's the theory. Anyone who thinks Project Treble is the holy grail for Android updates is going to be in for a rude awakening when they're still stuck waiting for an update. It only solves a part of the problem.

I wasn't comparing the light bulb to the phone, nor did I say you can't have an opinion. My goal was to get you to stop and think about what you said. To call the iPhone stale, or even Samsung, is to dismiss in a casual and superficial manner, what has gone into creating said phones.

The phone is a technological tool, not a fashion accessory.

Smartphone tech is stale. It just is what it is.

It happens. Nothing stays cutting edge forever. Just look at history.

And again, it’s just my opinion. Like I posted earlier, I just don’t get as enthused as I use too.

I don’t fall in love with the tech like I use too. Maybe I take some of it for granted.

I’m sure that’s part of the problem.

But stale none the less.

Edit: and not in so many words but technically yes you did say I had to invent something before I speak about the stagnant tech industry.

I've had my iPhone X since release day, and since release day, it's been a series of apps crashing (and sometimes not loading at all), Face ID being hopelessly slow, the display waking up and voicemail notifications strobing on the screen, music showing up with 3 blank tracks between every song on my car... And all Apple has done is say "Didja reset your phone?"

I had an S8+ that I returned, because I hated TouchWiz, but preordered an S9+. I'm already dealing with bugs and a subpar experience, so I might as well get what I can on the resale market for my iPhone X while it's still valuable.

For those Apple enthusiasts considering this phone, how do you get your contacts, and calendars to sync? Is it possible to use an Android phone as still live primarily in the Apple Eco system?
I'm reasonably sure Samsung's migration tool works with iCloud as well as GMail, Outlook.com / O365, and others. Though, that's assuming you want to use the included apps for that.

I've used GMail and Outlook.com for mail / calendar / contacts for a few years, and they magically appear on both platforms when you log in.

I have noticed that restoring from a backup on IOS devices or migrating from another computer using Apple's assistant is usually the source of all headaches. There really is no reason to migrate when just a about everything is cloud based.
Did you start from a backed up version of your previous phone?

Really....do you also miss your CD/DVD drive, or your serial port, or maybe even your floppy disk. Not bashing you, just tired of hearing this over and over. Once I made the move to wireless, I find that the wires dangling down are now just a pain in the a$$, and tend to always get caught on things (like when I'm shoveling snow ). Both of my sons use wireless exclusively, from their Macs and iPhones, as do a lot of their college buddies.

Time to Think Different :)

CD/DVD drives had obvious superior successors. What's the obvious successor to the headphone jack? Don't tell me bluetooth, cuz it's garbage.

Also, did the headphone jack somehow not allow you to use bluetooth before?

Time to think logically. :)

hmm Galaxy repeated he same design from S8 to S9 (so far). Apple: 6, 6s, 7, 8.

The screaming began and was louder from the 6 to the 6s, especially since there are more differences between the later modules than a meager replacement of the fingerprint scanner. Apple never got the slack Samsung is getting.

I sure hope so. With too many cooks still involved in the kitchen of Android updates (unless you have a Pixel) and Samsung’s notoriously slower than a turtle on Vicodin pace of updates, you can’t really blame me for being skeptical.

Probably because Apple used to be considered an innovator. The reality is you can only innovate so much before you have to come up with something completely new.

I know it is. I was just saying that the possibility is there. An Android device can be used the way all iPhones are used, or the opposite extreme.
Surprisingly, there was a moment when I fixed a bug in the Ruby source of a daemon running on a Turris router connected to a Raspberry Pi I had SSH access to. I SSH'd into the Raspi, then SSH'd again into the Turris, fixed the thing and then restarted the service. All from my Android phone, standing, in a bus on my way from school.
And you really think you can't do that on iOS?

On the hardware side maybe, but noting beats the simplicity of iOS.
Except for previous iOS versions. From a usability and simplicity standpoint, every new iOS since 6 has been worse and worse. Eventually it won't have that advantage over Android. Maybe even just one more iteration.

Sometimes logic doesn’t go over well here

Easy to make a phone cheaper when you are the OEM for the most expensive components.

Or it’s easier to sell a phone for less when you’re willing to make less profit.
